Shinichi Kudo, also known by his alter-ego Conan Edogawa, is the titular main protagonist of the Case Closed franchise.
A famous young schoolboy and detective recognised for his talents in the most crime polluted town Beika City, until an unrelenting turn for the worst, he is given poison by Gin and Vodka, two members for the criminal Black Organization. Unbeknownst to them, the product backfires and shrinks Shinichi into first grade age, where he is forced to act as an elementary boy. As a result, he seeks to find a way to restore his original form whilst exposing the organization's crimes, with helps from many of his good allies, including Dr. Hiroshi Agasa, whom are the few that are aware of Conan's cause.
As Shinichi, he is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi in Japanese, who also voiced Kaito Kuroba/Kaitou Kid in Magic Kaito, Inuyasha in the series of the same name, and Jerry Jewell in Funimation and Griffin Burns in Bang Zoom! and Mauricio Ortiz-Segura in Netflix in English. As Conan, he is voiced by Minami Takayama in Japanese and Alison Viktorin in Funimation and Wendee Lee in Bang Zoom! and Molly Zhang in Netflix in English.
Shinichi is a young man with dark brown hair with a cowlick in the front and districtive tuft in the back, blue eyes and slightly paled skin. He is noted to bear a striking resemblance to his father, Yusaku Kudo. He wears the Teitan high school uniform most of the time.
Shinichi takes the appearance of his six year old self after being exposed to a prototype poison called APTX 4869, which he has been forced to swallow by two men in black later revealed to be members of the Black Organization. To hide his true identity, he wears a pair of glasses that originally belonged to his father. He also wears shorts and a red bowtie that is actually a voice-changing bowtie invented by Dr. Agasa, allowing him to mimic others' voices. Additionally, he wears red shoes that are also Agasa's inventions that enhance his kicks.
Personality[]
Shinichi's greatest trait is his obsession with Sherlock Holmes, which ends up becoming the main factor for his love to solve cases. Having grown up under his father, who is a famous detective himself, and his mother, an actress capable of disguises, Shinichi has perfected his deduction skills over the years, to the point that no case, no matter how hard, can hinder him, earning him the nickname of "Heisei Holmes". Due to watching many movies and shows with morgues in them, he has become desensitized to corpses. However due to his strong sense of justice, Shinichi still believes that murder, no matter the reason, is always wrong, and will berate a culprit if they try to justify their own actions. The few times he fails to save a life, even a culprit's, haunt him throughout the series. His bluntness and obsession with Sherlock Holmes also make him come across as rude and arrogant, and as a result he doesn't have a close friend except for Ran despite his popularity. In addition to detective work, Shinichi also has a love for soccer.
However, one side effect of his fame is that Shinichi becomes rather cocky and often runs into dangers, not caring at all about how it may affect him. This ultimately starts the events of the series, since he follows Gin and Vodka alone and without preparation, enabling them to beat him up and force-feed him APTX 4869.
The poison de-ages Shinichi's entire body except for his nervous system and therefore he still has the personality, memories, and incredible deductive ability of his teenage self. Conan's goal is to hunt down the Black Organization and have them arrested for their crimes, as well as find an antidote to the APTX 4869. To do so he plans to make the washout detective Kogoro Mouri famous in hopes of attracting cases related to the Black Organization. It is also implied that the incident also humbles him somewhat, as he is more cautious afterwards, especially towards revealing the secret to anyone, though he still tends to run into cases at the first opportunity. In order not to raise suspicion, Conan has to pretend to be a silly boy and attributes his deduction skills to "something [he] heard on TV" or "taught by uncle Kogoro/professor Agasa/Shinichi-niichan". His silly façade also annoys Kogoro that he often scolds him. Conan also still doesn't try to hide his love for Sherlock Holmes and soccer, so he has to pretend to have been told by Shinichi whenever someone suspects him for talking about something in too much detail.
Shinichi and Ran have been friends since childhood, and he has long since had feelings for her, despite many girls also having feelings for him. She is considered the one who can warm his heart and thus he treasures her above everyone else, to the point that he especially wants to keep his secret from her since he doesn't want her to get herself in danger for him. He also admits when confessing to her in London that despite his skills, he finds it hard to deduce her feelings because he is in love with her.
Biography[]
Shinichi Kudo was born to the renowned mystery author, Yusaku Kudo, and the former actress, Yukiko Kudo nee Fujimine. At the age of four, he started kindergarten where he encountered Ran Mouri, who was crying about the name tag that got stolen from her by some bullies. He later rescued her from their teacher, who attempted to abduct her to replace his daughter so his mentally-ill wife would be happy again. Shinichi and Ran have become friends ever since, and he started to have feelings for her.
Growing up, Shinichi becomes a famous young detective who helps solving many cases, earning him the nickname of "Heisei Holmes" and causing him to be feared by criminals. While on a date with Ran, he encounters two men from a secret criminal organization who force feed him a strange poison that causes his body to shrink back to first grade age. However, due to a rare side-effect, he shrinks to the form of a young child except for his nervous system and therefore he still has the personality, memories, and incredible deductive ability of his teenage self.
In order to keep his true identity a secret, Shinichi now goes under the alias Conan Edogawa (after the two famous detective authors Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Rampo) and pretends to be a real child to throw off suspicion while he secretly solves many cases and looks for clues about the organization. He loves Ran but cannot confess his feelings or reveal his true identity in order to protect her. Meanwhile, he also uses her father Kogoro as a front to solve crimes, letting the latter taking credits for his works. He later meets Shiho Miyano, the creator of APTX 4869 who has also used the poison to shrink herself and been adopted by Dr. Agasa, and the two seek to bring down the Black Organization once and for all. Another close friend of his is Heiji Hattori, who also knows his true identity, and the two have since solved many cases together, while Ran and Kazuha act as their moral supports.
Equipments[]
Voice-Changing Bowtie: It allows Shinichi to mimic others' voices, which he uses to mimic Kogoro's so he can pretend that it is the latter who solves the cases rather than him.
Power-Enhancing Kick Shoe: They enhances Shinichi's already skilled kicks, causing greater impacts to the targets.
Glasses Modification (Microphone): It allows Shinichi to secretly listen in on conversations.
Stun-Gun Wristwatch: It fires a tranquilizer to put a target to sleep. This is usually used by him on Kogoro or Sonoko so he can mimic their voices and solve the cases while pretending to be them.
Detective Boys Badge: It allows Shinichi to communicate with other members of the Detective Boys.
Turbo Engine Skateboard: It is solar-powered and outruns even cars, allowing Shinichi to chase criminals at a high speed.
Criminal Tracking Glasses: As its name suggests, it allows Shinichi to track on criminals.
Satellite-Telephone Wristwatch: Upgraded from the original Stun-Gun Wristwatch, it allows Shinichi to make phone calls and has a flash drive to store data.

He has begrudgingly worked with gentlemen thieves like Phantom Thief Kid and Lupin III.
Conan has had nightmares about being forced to grow up again and Ran moving on from his teenage self. However, they affirmed their feelings for each other during a London case.
He does fear getting beaten up by Ran if she finds out he's been Conan the whole time. Primarily due to the fact she bathed with him in a hot spring (against his will mind you), so he's seen her naked already.
Due to how long Conan's series has been going on (1994 - present), some fans have gotten annoyed by how drawn out the story has become; wishing for him to have the final showdown with the Black Organization with his FBI, CIA and police allies and force the mastermind into the open. Without the enemies, Conan and Ai will finally be able to perfect the antidote to the drug that turned them into kids.
It's revealed in Movie 27 that Shinichi and Kaito are First Cousins.
Conan seems to be a magnet for death, seeing as someone is ALWAYS getting killed on purpose practically everywhere he goes in the local city.
You would think that all the fame he has garnered for Kogoro would deter stupid criminals; after all, Kogoro has been in the newspaper AND on television for solving such cases multiple times.
As the "Sleeping Sleuth" is well-known in a lot of the future cases, it's mind boggling how stupid the murderers are, going through with the murder even when they know how good Kogoro is reputedly.
As he would build up immunity and never be able to change back, Conan can't take the temporary antidotes more than Ai allows him to; that is even WITH the finished product to permanently change him back.
All the people who know Conan true identity as Shinichi have never told anyone and kept it a secret to themselves in honor of his respect. Although occasionally Masumi Sera does tease him, much to Conan annoyance.
