Shinjuro Rengoku is a minor character in the dark fantasy manga and anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

He is the former Flame Hashira, father of Kyojuro Rengoku and Senjuro Rengoku and husband of Ruka Rengoku. Once a powerful Hashira and a passionate mentor to his sons, he sank into depression and alcohol after the death of his wife and resigned from his post and became abusive towards his sons.

In the Japanese version of the anime, he was voiced by Rikiya Koyama, who also voiced Yamato in Naruto, Ging Freecss in Hunter × Hunter, Lord Death in Soul Eater, Kiritsugu Emiya in Fate/Zero, Yukichi Fukuzawa in Bungo Stray Dogs, Jin Kirigiri in Danganronpa, Ou Ki in Kingdom, Azazel in High School DXD, Raoh in Fist of the North Star, Perugius Dola in Mushoku Tensei, Tora in Ushiu and Tora, Frank West in Dead Rising, Sun Wukong in Journey to the West, Crush in Finding Nemo, Vincenzo Santorini in Atlantis, Adam Malkovich in Metroid, Taiga Saejima in Yakuza, Lucian in League of Legends, Seth and Bastian in Fire Emblem and Wolverine in Marvel Anime: Wolverine, and by Imari Williams, who also voiced Augus in Asura's Wrath, Knightowl in Miraculous New York and Kamau in Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal in the English version.

Appearance[]

Shinjuro is a muscular middle-aged man who, just as the rest of his clan, has long, blonde hair with red tips. In the present, he uses a grey-blue kimono and a few days beard. In the past, he shared a great similarity with his son, Kyojuro, as he used the haori that the Rengoku clan had inherited for generations as well as wearing the Demon Slayer Corps uniform and a katana with a flame pattern on the sheath as well.

Personality[]

While he was once a caring husband and father, who would train his sons with passion and accomplished with his Hashira duties, after his wife, Ruka, died due to an illness, he couldn't handle with the sadness and retired from his charge as a Hashira and became reckless with his sons, not seeming excited by his son, Kyojuro following his steps, but instead, expressing to him that it hadn't any importance. When Tanjiro visited him and Senjuro after Kyojuro's death, he insulted Kyojuro and hit Senjuro. However, after he was left alone and Senjuro tells him Kyojuro's lasts words for him, he mourned him. Afterwards, he wrote to Tanjiro, apologizing for his behavior.

During the Infinity Castle arc, a more calm Shinjuro served as the personal guard to Kiriya Ubuyashiki along with the also retired, Tengen Uzui, using his deceased son's memory as a motivation for not to dishonor Rengoku family's name. After the battle, he visited Tanjiro in the hospital and thanked him for using Kyojuro's guard in his katana.
