Shiori is a young hanyō, and a protagonist in the anime InuYasha.

She is voiced by Kaori Mizuhashi in the Japanese version as a child and Nicole Bouma from the original series and Janice Kawaye from Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon in the English version as an adult.

Biography

InuYasha

She is the daughter of a bat-daiyōkai Tsukuyomaru and a human woman Shizu. Because she is a half-demon, she is often annoyed, marginalized, or even beaten by the children of her village. Her grandfather, Taigokumaru, a powerful bat-daiyōkai, takes her to her, but shortly afterwards the bat-demons attack the village again and again to kill the humans there and suck the blood out of them.

At the time of the plot, Inuyasha and his friends arrive in the village. They meet the mother of Shiori, who tells them the whole story, and asks them for help. Inuyasha assumes that Shiori is also badly treated by the bat-daiyōkai, because demons do not accept half-demons, even relatives. But the attempt to free them fails.

Shortly thereafter her grandfather decides that the human village is to be extinguished, and attacks with his whole entourage. Shiori protects him with a barrier from Inuyasha's attacks. But when her grandfather admits to killing his son, Shiori lets the barrier disappear so that Inuyasha can destroy the bat-yōkai.

Shiori gives Inuyasha a special attack for his sword, and both say goodbye to each other.

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

14 years later, after her mother passed away from sickness, Shiori became leader of tribe of fellow half-demons whom she has protected within a strong barrier she herself had created. It was then that she had befriended young Setsuna, sensing that the half dog-demon girl was tied to a very strange destiny.

Manga Continuity

Shiori ended up becoming the captain a trading ship as an adult; using her echolocation abilties to help navigate the sea. She still wears the white ceremonial kimono from her childhood, but torn off the sleevs and trimmed it to thigh length; needing her limbs free to help with the ship. She is also considered beautiful by her crew, with even Towa calling Shiori a babe.

• Shiori only turns human during solar eclipses; they only happen a year and a half apart.
• Her First English voice actress, Nicole Bouma, also voiced Ai in Inuyasha: Fire on the Mystic Island.
