If Geralt sides with him then Siegfried will assist Geralt on defeating Salamandra and the true villain of the game.

He is voiced by Wayne Forester.

Biography[]

Past[]

Siegfried is born around 1250s to the well known knight, Eyck of Denesle, and Sophia of Denesle. Since his parents were nobles, they raise him in castle Denesle and his father taught him the knightly code. Later on, Sophia has been struck by an illness and Siegfried ask his father to earn some coin for her betterment but Eyck refused saying that it will ruin his reputation. Angered by his father's response, he denounced Eyck and abandon him. Afterwords, he would join the Order of the Flaming Rose and became a knight in their ranks. Siegfried has found stories relating to Geralt of Rivia and was inspired by him.

The Witcher[]

Siegfried meets Geralt in the sewers of Vizima with the purpose of hunting a cocatrice. Admired by Geralt, Siegfried wanted to work with Geralt to fight the dangerous creature and the drowners that are roaming around the sewers. After slaying the cocatrice, they ambushed by agents of Salamandra but they were quickly defeated by both the knight and witcher. Siegfried tells Geralt that he knows someone that can assist him to defeat the organization, whose name is Raymond Maarloeve, a private detective. Siegfried will spend most of his days at his post setting up his own group of command. At one point, there will a conflict between the Scoia'tael and the Order but Siegfried helps Geralt to get pass the Gate of the Dike. In Old Friend of Mine quest, Geralt can invite Siegfried to Shani's party. Later on, Siegfried will report Geralt on some happenings before he departs.

If Geralt constantly supports the Scoia'tael: Siegfried will become another fanatic follower of his grandmaster, Jacques De Aldersberg. He will be angry at Geralt for supporting the nonhumans and will attack him. In De Aldersberg's vision, Siegfried will appear and display his racism towards Geralt and blame him for allowing the White Frost to happen.

If Geralt constantly supports the Order of the Flaming Rose: Siegfried will be upset that his grandmaster of the Order is evil and corrupt but will assist Geralt to get him. They become loyal to King Foltest and will have to kill the mutated knights of the Order. They travel to the sewers and kill the monster that lies within it but once they emerge out of the sewers they will encountered Yaevinn. Yaevinn will be angry that Geralt supports the humans and will attack him. Later on, Siegfried tells Geralt that he can't move on due to an injury but wish Geralt luck on killing De Aldersberg.

If Geralt chooses neutrality: Siegfried will confront Geralt with concern about his loyalties but Geralt will tell him about De Aldersberg's corruption and ask him to help the people that are suffering from the attack. Geralt can attack him if the player wants him to despite this, he will still appear as an apparition with Yaevinn in De Aldersberg's vision with the both of them attacking Geralt.

After the death of De Aldersberg, Siegfried becomes his successor and the 2nd grandmaster of the Flaming Rose.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings[]

After De Aldersberg death and rampage in the North, the Order of the Flaming Rose has lost its status in Tameria and parts of Aedirn. Siegfried is then selected by the council to be the new grandmaster of the Order. They were accepted by the king of Redania, Radovid V, and became his personal militia while enforcing his rules. They built a castle in Redania called Castle Barienmurg, their main stronghold of the several territories that they own in Redania.

Siegfried still continues his monster hunting while tending his duties as grandmaster. Later on, The Order has been selected to participate in the summit of Loc Muinne and are use as security for Radovid and the surroundings.

Iorweth's path: Geralt tries to enter Loc Muinne through the Flaming Rose camp but guards stop him because they recognize him as the Kingslayer. But Siegfried interferes and allows Geralt safe passage through the camp since he knows that Geralt is not the kingslayer. Iorweth finds another way to enter due to his infamy.

Roche's path: Roche and Geralt seek to enter Loc Muinne but the guards refuse to let them in especially that Geralt is viewed as the Kingslayer. But Siegfried allowed them to enter and is glad to see his friend, Geralt. He tells Geralt on what's going on at the summit and knows that Geralt is not the Kingslayer.

If Geralt decides to help Roche rescue Foltest's child, Anais La Valette, and give her to Natalis then Siegfried allows them to leave without any harm coming to them from the knights. But if Geralt offers Anais to king Radovid then Siegfried and his knights escort them out. He will then comment that Roche looks good in red when he is wearing Redanian colors.

Personality[]

From what's shown in the games, Siegfried is an honorable knight that deeply want to help people in times of need and never demands payment in return for his services. He is a typical knight of honor but like his father, Eyck, Siegfried is racist to anything nonhuman. He strongly dislikes Yaevinn and the Scoia'tael for their misdeeds and criminal actions against humans. But he respects Geralt since he views him as human and holds admiration towards the monster hunter and seems to tolerate mages like Triss. Like most of the Order, he is religious as he is a worshiper of the Eternal Fire and often pray in times of crisis and his duties as grandmaster. Siegfried dislikes his father as he did not help his mother from an illness and did nothing to support her, which cause him to denounce him. After becoming grandmaster, he takes his new rank seriously but still cares for Geralt as a friend by the time they meet again in the Witcher 2.

Journal Entry[]

The Witcher[]

"Siegfried of Denesle, a knight of the Order of the Flaming Rose, is an idealist who adheres to the Order's rules but is not devoid of common sense. Polite and open, he is unlike many of his brothers from the Order in that he is not prejudiced. He is undeniably courageous and demonstrated this when he descended alone into the sewers to fight the cockatrice.
Siegfried and I defeated the cockatrice together. The knight proved both polite and a skilled swordsman.
I have a feeling Siegfried is starting to see through his own misapprehensions. He has realized that killing monsters will not eliminate all the evil of this world, and his duties towards the Order sometimes force him to choose the greater of two evils.
During the bank robbery in the Trade Quarter, I opposed Yaevinn and his forces together with Siegfried. The attack reinforced the knight's conviction that the Order's dislike of non-humans is justified. I asked Siegfried for military support during the assault on Salamandra's headquarters in Vizima. The knight, who was among those invited to Leuvaarden's party, agreed to help me break up the organization."

If Geralt does not side with the Scoia'tael: "The knights led by Siegfried defeated the Scoia'tael during the clash in the Golem Burial Ground."

If Geralt sides with the Order of the Flaming Rose: "On the hill under the Old Manor, during the fight against Salamandra, my friend aided me again."

If Geralt choose neutrality but kills Siegfried anyway: "Siegfried of Denesle died by my hand when he stood between me and the Grand Master. He remained loyal to the Order of the Flaming Rose to the very end"

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings[]

"The knightly caste should oblige its members to follow the path of honor, of certain rules and ideals. Unfortunately in our rotten times, many among the knighted, dismissive of the vows they made, are often more interested in their own privileges and chances to stuff their pouches. Compared to all those false knights, robber barons and other heraldic rabble, the House of Denesle stood apart like a lion among mongrels. Like his father Eyck of Denesle before him, the young Siegfried always followed strict moral rules in life and an iron code of honor, to the point that his devotion sometimes bordered on fanaticism. During our last meeting, Siegfried had served in the ranks of the Order of the Flaming Rose, and he played no small part in the events at that time in the capital of Temeria."

If Geralt sided with the Order in the first game: "It was because of those past times that Siegfried made no objections and allowed Geralt to enter Loc Muinne."

If Geralt gives Anais to Natalis: "Their friendship proved its worth for a second time when Geralt and Roche faced a patrol sent to bring Anais La Valette under Radovid's protective wing. Because the Temerian and the witcher's interests differed from the king's, bloodshed seemed inevitable – yet, remembering their friendship, the knight of Denesle conveniently "forgot" that he saw them in the Kaedweni camp."

Trivia[]

  • When Siegfried join the Order of the Flaming Rose, it is thought that he was a bastard child of Jacques De Aldersberg.
  • Siegfried's face is model after Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, a designer at CD PROJEKT RED.
  • During the Hearts of Stone expansion, Geralt can reference Siegfried when interacting with Ulrich about the downfall of the Order. Geralt will mention that Siegfried would be disappointed that the remnants of the Order has fallen so low to banditry and drug dealing.
  • In the Witcher 3, it has been said that what's left in the Order has been restored by a man name Siegfried De Lowe, who is an influential knight in the group. But they demand payment from anyone that they protect like the village of Brunwich, this suggest they have became mercenaries. There is a theory that Siegfried De Lowe is actually Siegfried of Denesle but it has never been confirm. If this theory is proven to be true then that would mean Siegfried has abandon his chivalrous attitude.
