Biography[]
Unable to identify the thief of the PX-41 serum, Silas Ramsbottom orders Agent Lucy Wilde to bring Gru in.
When Lucy Wilde brings Gru, Tom and Stuart to the Anti-Villain League headquarters, Silas Ramsbottom introduces Gru to the organization. He introduces himself, which causes the two Minions to burst with laughter due to his name Ramsbottom, which resembles "bottom". He orders Lucy Wilde to explain to Gru what happened and a video about the PX-41. Gru does not accept the job due to how he has started a jelly and jam production in his house.
Silas Ramsbottom later has a discussion with Gru and Lucy in the AVL headquarters. Gru, during this meeting, because of Margo falling in love with Antonio, adamantly insists to Ramsbottom that the one who stole the serum is El Macho. Silas – confused – points out in frustration that the claim is baseless without any evidence. Lucy intervenes and tells Ramsbottom the duo found the sign the PX-41 serum in the wall of Floyd Eaglesan's shop. Gru leaves flustered and Ramsbottom remains annoyed by the entire meeting.
In Despicable Me 3, Silas makes a minor appearance in AVL headquarters, where he reveals that he is retiring his position as the director, presumably from his old age or overweight problem. He has gave the position for Valerie Da Vinci, who he introduces her to them. However, she quickly got frustrated by Ramsbottom "stalling" her time and pushes him through the floor.
In Minions: The Rise of Gru, Ramsbottom makes an appearance, leading the Anti-Villain League in helping out in the battle against the Vicious 6. Later after Gru defeated The Vicious 6, he finally arrested them while taking their former leader Wild Knuckles to the hospital for recovery. He attended the funeral after believing Wild Knuckles is dead, he advices young Gru to stay out of trouble, meaning they will be spying on Gru, which will foreshadow the main reason why Silas recruited Gru in the future.
In Despicable Me 4, it is revealed he was called out of retirement due to Maxime Le Mal escaping the maximum security prison and informed Gru and his family about this, forcing them to move to AVL's safehouse in Mayflower and make sure their identities are hidden from anyone. In order to track down the cockroach-themed villain, he transforms 5 of the Minions into Mega Minions.
Personality[]
Even with his condescending nature towards Gru, Silas never showed any actual antagonism towards Lucy and didn't underestimate her skills, implying that while he may have a disliking to Gru, he's reasonably respectful to his spies.
Trivia[]
- His personality is reminiscent of M in the James Bond films.
- Silas' name comes from a town in England.
- Gru's Minions laugh at Silas' last name since it has the word "bottom" in it. Gru himself even says "Good day, Mr. Sheepsbutt!" to him before leaving, stimulating more laughter from the Minions. It's likely he called him that deliberately.
- In Minions: The Rise of Gru, the true reason why Silas recruited Gru after he told him to stay out of trouble, is because if it weren't for him and his minions, they would have stopped The Vicious 6 by then while being victorious. Which later Silas will be keep a sharp eye on Gru's heroic activates that will foreshadow his fate.
