Silvia Broome is the main heroine of the 2005 political thriller film, The Interpreter.
She is portrayed by Nicole Kidman.
She was born in the United States to a British mother and white African father. She spent most of her life in Matobo and studied music in Johannesburg and linguistics in Sorbonne University, Paris and other European countries. Her diverse background leads to the UN Security Chief wryly describing her as "Being the UN".
Silvia is present when President Edmond Zuwanie visits the UN to put forward his own case to avoid indictment for the atrocities he has committed, including ethnic cleansing.
Suddenly, a malfunctioning metal detector forces everyone to leave the UN building. When Silvia returns to the building that night to reclaim some personal belongings, she overhears two men discussing a plot to seemingly assassinate Zuwanie in Ku.
Silvia soon confronts Zuwanie in the safe room so that she can kill him, but Keller realises that the assassination plot is a false flag operation to help Zuwanie gain credibility and rushes into the safe room to stop Silvia from killing him.
After Zuwanie is indicted, Silvia manages to make amends with Keller before she leaves for Matobo.
