King Simba, simply known as Simba, is the titular main protagonist of Disney's The Lion King franchise.

As the son of Mufasa and Sarabi, Simba was next in line to rule the Pride Lands. However, after his uncle, Scar, murdered Mufasa and convinced Simba that it was his fault, Simba fled into exile and spent years with his adoptive fathers Timon and Pumbaa. Upon entering adulthood, however, as the Pride Lands fell into ruins under Scar's rule, Simba was forced to defeat him and take his place in the Circle of Life. After becoming king, Simba married his childhood best friend Nala and had two cubs; a daughter named Kiara and a son named Kion.

As a cub, he is voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas (while speaking) and Jason Weaver (while singing) in the first movie, and Matt Weinberg.

As an adult, he is voiced by Matthew Broderick, who also plays Niko Tatopoulos in Godzilla, Inspector Gadget in the live-action film of the same name, Despereaux Tilling in The Tale of Despereaux, Adam Flayman in Bee Movie, and Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Rob Lowe in The Lion Guard.

Physical Appearance

Newborn Simba was very small and slender with a large head. He had light spots on his head and body, as newborn lions usually have. As a cub, Simba was small and slender. He has yellow fur, with a lighter cream color accenting his belly, muzzle, and paws. He has large, bright eyes with orange irises (red as an adult) and yellow scleras; his upper lids are a deep tawny. Additionally, he has a light pink nose and four black whiskers on either side of his muzzle, and the insides of his ears are tawny and rimmed with black. Cub Simba has a small tuft of hair on top of his head, and a short bushy tail. He has somewhat stocky proportions.

Teenage Simba retains much of the appearance he had as a child, but is much more skinny. He has a mop of reddish-orange hair growing on the top of his head and partially down his neck; this is the early stage of his mane growing in. Teen Simba also has some noticeable darker colorations on his body, such as a brownish point above his nose.

As a young adult, Simba is much larger and his body is muscular. His russet mane is now fully grown and covers the entirety of his neck and much of his back and his ears are barely seen. His eyes are smaller in relation to his head and are more oval-shaped. In the sequels Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard, now a full grown adult, the colors of Simba's pelt and mane are somewhat duller, and he has a more aged look and a heavier build.

Simba takes after both of his parents. From Mufasa, Simba inherits his gold fur and red mane. From Sarabi, Simba inherits her ear rims (which he loses as an teenager), eye color, and her rounded features.

Personality

As a cub, Simba was fun-loving and lively, as he was always ready for an adventure with his best friend, Nala. He tried to see the best in everybody, even his relative Scar. At times, he could be a brash and cocky show-off and boasted that he’ll be a great king ever, which often got himself and Nala into danger. In spite of this, he came to see the fault in his actions and always admitted his mistakes.

Now as an adult, Simba still has his fun-loving and happy-go-lucky demeanor, but he has become guilty of those actions he believed were his fault when he was as a cub. After reuniting with Nala, Simba realizes he needs to grow up and take responsibility, he becomes even more lion-hearted and becomes determined to protect his kingdom and family, regardless of the cost. Simba becomes very strict and takes his job of ruling the kingdom very seriously. Unfortunately, later in life, this defensiveness causes him to become overprotective at times and occasionally selfish to others, even his family. However, he eventually comes to see the light and becomes successful in rescuing his pride. Simba is marked by his strong sense of justice.

Simba also likes to stick to tradition, which was why at first he rejected his son Kion's decisions for The Lion Guard as they weren’t all lions like previous Lion Guards. However, after seeing Kion and his Guard defeat Janja's clan, Simba realizes Kion was judicious to have chosen who he chose and accepts the new Lion Guard at last.

Yet despite this, he is still credulous to his foes, such as when Zira congratulated Kovu for leading Simba into the ambush she set up, he automatically believes her words and distrusts Kovu again, even though Kovu was unaware of the ambush and therefore, had nothing to do with it. He is also extremely protective of Kiara to the point of keeping her in his eyesight at all times. He is so determined to keep his family safe that he ignores reality. He is dismissive to Kovu when he sees him with his daughter as adolescents. At the trial, due to his injuries, his fury of what happened to his father, his anger and anxiety gets the better of him. This almost nearly destroys his relationship with his daughter.

When he gets confronted by Kiara at the end of the movie during the last fight, he is hesitant at first, but when his daughter tells him there is no need to fight because as lions "We are one". While Simba is looking at everyone, finally realizes that Kiara is correct and begins to trust her more. He embraces his daughter. When Zira tries to slaughter Simba, Kiara tackles Zira to stop her. As Zira and Kiara are over the gorge, he jumps after Kiara to rescue her. Kiara tells him she tried to rescue Zira. Seeing that Kovu belongs with her, gives his blessing for the two of them to marry. He’s more forgiving of his enemies and more trusting of his daughter to her own decisions and having her adventures without worrying about her, indicating he is becoming a much better ruler.

Family

Mufasa

Simba has a strong father-son relationship with Mufasa. He looked up to him in every way and after being chased by the hyenas, he said he was just trying to be brave like his father. Mufasa tries to teach him the appropriate conduct in times of danger and as a king, and discourages him from taking unwise risks. Simba spent the day with his father all the time, and Mufasa showed him how to be a good ruler. When his father was slaughtered in the wildebeest stampede caused by the hyenas under Scar's signal, he was upset, believing it to be all his fault. It was Mufasa's spiritual guidance that eventually convinced Simba years later to reclaim the throne stolen from him.

In the second film, it is shown that Simba desires to live up to his father's legacy. Several of Simba's actions are based on what he thinks his father would approve of. However, after Simba exiles Kovu believing he was involved in Zira's ambush to kill him in order to avenge Scar, Mufasa disapproves this decision to exile him and was very disappointed in Simba for deliberately disobeying him again, even Simba tries justify his actions to Kiara that he only wanted to do what Mufasa would have done, which caused Kiara to tell him that he will never be his late father, ultimately making him realize he was ironically going against what Mufasa actually wanted. However, after Zira's demise and Kovu and Kiara reunited, Mufasa congratulates Simba and tells him that "We are one."

Sarabi

The queen of Pride Rock and the mate to Mufasa, Sarabi and Simba had a loving mother-son relationship. She was enormously proud of her son, and like Mufasa, tried to teach him the appropriate conduct and groomed him for his future as the king. She was also protective of him, ensuring that Simba did not run off to where he might get himself into trouble. When Scar claimed that Simba died with Mufasa in the wildebeest stampede, she was heartbroken. Years later, when Simba arrived to rescue his home, he watched sadly as Scar berated his mother. When Scar struck her down in a fit of rage, Simba came to her defense and comforted her at once. She was in disbelief to see him alive, but she was very elated. After Scar was forced to confess that he killed Mufasa, Sarabi fought the hyenas by Simba's side and they managed to rescue their home. She watched proudly as Simba assumed his throne as intended. Sarabi still supported her son after he became king, as shown in the second film, when she stands by Simba's side along with Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, and the rest of the pride when Simba faces Zira.

Scar

At first, Simba loved his uncle and would constantly tell him of his adventures, but Scar never seemed to be interested; in fact, Scar hated Simba from the moment he was born, simply because he was Mufasa's heir. After Simba tells Scar about his father showing him the whole kingdom, Scar told his nephew about the Elephant Graveyard on purpose, hoping that Simba would go there and get himself slaughtered (even though he covered his mouth and pretended he told him by accident).

Scar sent the hyenas, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, after Simba to slaughter him, but this first attempt failed. Later on, Scar led Simba into a deep gorge, and Scar, along with the assistance from the hyenas, caused a stampede of wildebeests in the gorge, intending to kill Simba and his father. He only succeeded in killing Mufasa, his older brother, by throwing him off of a high ledge he was clinging on to and into the stampede. He told Simba a lie about the death of his father, Mufasa was his fault, and that he must run away and never return. Then Scar ordered the hyenas to kill Simba again, but they fail again due to Simba escaping into a desert through a thorn thicket much too dense for them to follow him through, unbeknownst to Scar.

Years later, Simba is a young adult now, and he went back to challenge Scar for the throne. Upon arriving, he witnessed the devastation Scar's reign had done to his home, and then saw Scar backhand Sarabi (Simba's mother) across the face for questioning his rule. Thus, Simba became enraged and even threatened to tear Scar apart. However, he still maintained some love for his evil uncle, as he resisted to make good on his threat and calmly gave him the choice to either step down from the throne or fight for it. He was even coerced by Scar to admit his guilt in his role in Mufasa's death. Upon which, Scar then accuses Simba for murdering his father, despite Simba assuring that it was an accident, and even taunted him that his father wasn't there to save him this time as it was his own fault. But just as Scar was about to throw Simba off of Pride Rock into a blazing inferno, Scar arrogantly and cruelly whispered to him that it was really he who killed Mufasa. In that moment, any love that Simba once had for his uncle turned into a burning hatred for being a liar. In his rage, Simba jumped back up and pinned Scar to the ground, and then forced him to admit the real truth to the lionesses that he was the real murderer and guilty. As a result, an intense fight occurred between the lionesses and the hyenas.

Scar attempted to flee the scene to the top of Pride Rock, but Simba chased him up there on his own and had him cornered. Simba then approached his uncle with hate in his eyes, coldly calling him a murderer who had no right to live after all he'd done. Scar, knowing he wasn’t strong enough to defeat Simba, begged for mercy and even used the excuse that they were family, which was hypocritical of him. He then tried to pin the blame entirely on the hyenas, who unbeknownst to him were listening, but Simba refuses to believe anymore of Scar's lies. Scar then asks if Simba was really willing to kill his own uncle, and in response, Simba states that he won't; not out of love, but only because he didn't wish to become a monster like Scar. Scar pretends to be grateful and asks if there is anything he could to make it up to Simba, but Simba, knowing full-well that his uncle cannot be trusted and not wanting to be around him anymore, chooses to exile him (the same words Scar told Simba when he was a cub). Surprised by this, Scar pretended to depart, but he tricked him and threw burning embers at Simba's face, and then a fight between Simba and Scar broke out. Scar eventually gains the upper hand in the fight, but before he can pounce on Simba and kill him, Simba kicks him over himself and over an edge and he lands down at the bottom of the ledge where the hyenas (having been defeated by Timon, Pumbaa, Timon's Ma and Uncle Max) wait, they eliminated Scar by eating him alive after years of his lies, derogatory treatment, and broken promises and as revenge for his blaming them for Mufasa's death in an attempt to get Simba to attack them and not him.

Simba would never forget how Scar ruined his life, and swore to spare the Pride Lands from another such tragedy. In the second film, it is implied that maybe Simba is trying to forgive his uncle for his actions because when he takes a walk with Kovu, he simply says that Scar couldn't let go of his hate and in the end, it destroyed him.

Kiara

Simba has a loving father-daughter relationship with Kiara. Simba knows Kiara is like him as a cub which terrifies him because he doesn't want her to get herself into trouble the way he did. As a result, he is over protective of her, much to Kiara's dismay. He also can be strict, despite his loving nature with her. When Kiara goes to the Outlands and gets into trouble with another cub (Zira's youngest son Kovu) when they were attacked by crocodiles, he tells Kiara off for disobeying him. Then Simba bonds with Kiara as he shows her the lesson about lions and family being one.

When Kiara is an adolescent, Simba is still the over protective father but now it gets to the point Kiara and Simba butt heads. On Kiara's first hunt, he promised to let her go on her first hunt by herself. Yet, he secretly sends Pumbaa and Timon to keep a close watch on her like he did when she was a cub. Kiara discovers this and becomes frustrated with her father, and runs off to the outskirts of the Pride Lands. When Simba sees a fire set by Kovu's older siblings, Outraged and troubled, Simba forbids her to go on anymore hunts when Kiara nearly passed on in a brush fire set by Vitani and Nuka, Kovu's siblings. When Kovu returns to the Pride Lands, he would keep a close eye on them, but eventually warms up to Kovu when he proves himself trustworthy. Unfortunately, Zira ambushed Simba in a trap supposedly set by Kovu, when he didn't want to and he had no knowledge of this. After this incident, Simba angrily exiles Kovu and refuses to have his daughter unattended again. Heartbroken and fed up with Simba's judgement, Kiara declares Kovu loves her for her and her father would never be Mufasa, much to Simba's horror and guilt. He later finds out from Timon and Pumbaa that Kiara is gone while Zazu warns him about the Outsiders coming to attack the Pride Lands.

When Simba fights Zira and her attacking Outsiders, Kiara and Kovu stop them. She has him realize that there is no need to fight because as lions "we are one". Simba looks at his little girl and they embrace. When Zira attacks Simba in rage, Kiara tackles her. Simba assisted her after Zira fell to her demise in the raging river below. Simba finally accepts that not only his daughter is growing up, but she has a very good taste in lions.

In The Lion Guard, Simba is seen being not as overprotective with her as he was in the first and second act of the second movie. He and Kiara retain their close father-daughter relationship as Simba teaches his daughter about being queen when he and Nala complete the Circle of Life.

Kion

Like with Kiara, Simba also is strict and loving with Kion, although Simba is not as overprotective with his son as he is with his daughter. Like how he was with Kovu being with Kiara, Simba isn't open at first with Kion and his new guard. When Kion was chosen to be the new leader of the Lion Guard in The Return of the Roar, Simba was very hesitant since he's only a cub. Additionally when Kion asks his friends to join the Lion Guard, confident they can handle it, Simba falsely accuses Kion of fooling around just because the animals Kion chose are not lions. Eventually Simba accepts Kion's guard when they defeated Janja and his clan.

Despite this Simba and Kion still have a very close father and son relationship. Kion wants to do and does well in protecting the Circle of Life and Simba is very supportive of his son and would give advice when necessary. He also can be understanding when Kion and his guard make a mistake. When Kion admits to Simba that he mistaken aardwolves as hyenas and kicked them out in Too Many Termites, Simba embraces him assuring him everyone makes mistakes but how a mistake is corrected is what counts. In The Rise of Scar, Simba and Kion are seen bonding around the Savannah as they relate to each other as they reflect their leadership roles (Simba as king and Kion as leader of the Lion guard) and doubts they used to have.

In The Battle for the Pride Lands Simba and everyone else was concerned when he sees his son with a scar on his left eye and at the concept of his son going crazy from Ushari's venom after the final confrontation with Scar's army. He and his family are then seen bidding farewell to Kion and his guard as they go to the Tree of Life to find a cure for Kion's scar and Ono's loss of eye sight. When Kion and his guard returned to the Pride Lands at the end of Season 3, he and everyone else are elated to see them. He, his family and the pride landers are also seen at the Tree of Life supporting Kion when he marries Rani.

Kovu

In the beginning, Simba and Kovu had a rocky relationship due to Zira's obsession to avenge Scar. Kovu as a young adult discreetly tried to kill Simba at first, but after getting to know Simba and close with Kiara, Kovu realizes how wrong his mother was. Simba mistrusted and is very judgmental towards Kovu due to him being chosen by Scar, despite Kovu not being related to Scar. When Kovu saved Kiara during her first hunt, Simba believed Kovu had terrible intentions behind the rescue. Simba reluctantly allows Kovu to stay at the Pride Lands after Zazu and Nala reminded him that he has to repay Kovu for saving Kiara's life.

Eventually after seeing how close Kiara and Kovu are and Nala's wise words, Simba warms up to Kovu. One day he tells Kovu the truth of what really happened between him, his father and Scar and how Scar refused to let go his hate. When Zira ambushes Simba and lies that Kovu was in on her ambush. Simba confronts Kovu and the latter truthfully denies having anything to do with it. As a result, Simba decides to exile Kovu without representation. When his daughter and Kovu break up the fight between his pride and the Outsiders and after he sees Kovu stand up to his mother saying that he won't let her hurt Kiara or Simba, Simba realizes he was wrong about Kovu and invites him back to his pride along with his sister Vitani and the rest of Zira's pride. Simba then accepts Kiara and Kovu as mates and begins training him as his successor alongside Kiara.

Timon & Pumbaa

Zazu

Not much is known about Simba's relationship with Zazu, apart from the fact that as a cub, he was never pleased when Zazu had to watch him and Nala and the fact that Simba liked to tease the bird at every chance he got, even calling him Banana Beak, much to Zazu's chagrin. Despite this, Simba had at least some degree of respect for Zazu, as he willingly goes with Zazu when Mufasa tells him to take Simba home while he takes care of some trespassing hyenas, though Simba was a little disappointed that he could not go with him. After Simba voiced his frustrations, Zazu boosts Simba's morale by reminding him that he’ll be king one day. When Simba grew up and became king, he let Zazu retain his job as majordomo and had a more respectful and professional relationship with him.

Rafiki

Simba meets Rafiki just after his birth. He shows them to the whole Pride Lands. In the wake of Mufasa's death at the hands of Scar, Rafiki was heartbroken that Mufasa died and wipes the drawing of Simba believing he was also dead. However upon discovering his scent and realizes that he was alive after all and restores his painting adding hair on it. He soon finds him and Simba did not recognize him and he was able to see the ghost of his father saying that he lives in you. When Simba returns to face Scar to reclaim his rightful places a king of the Pride Lands, Rafiki accompanies him and is forced to watch him being force into the edge by an enraged Scar who then whispers the truth that he was the one who did really killed Mufasa, which causes an enraged Simba to pin Scar down and call him a murderer. When the hyenas attack Simba, he helps him, striking the hyena in the head hard with his stick and after Scar was killed by the hyenas for falsely accusing them for Mufasa's death, Simba hugs him and says it is time and shown presenting his daughter Kiara to the entire Pride Lands.

After Kiara grows up, Rafiki plans to have Kiara and Kovu together in order to restore peace and the incomplete Circle of Life with help from Mufasa. However, after Simba exiles Kovu believing he was involved in the ambush set by Zira to kill him and bans Kiara from meeting with him, Rafiki was upset at Simba for disobeying his late father's pawprints that he himself must follow and breaking the Circle of Life. Unfortunately, Simba was too angry to notice Rafiki's sadness and tried to justify his mistakes that he was "doing" what Mufasa would have done. (Unaware that Mufasa wanted Kiara and Kovu to be together and Simba was ironically going against his wishes) After Zira's demise and the two prides reunited and Kiara and Kovu married, he was proud at Simba for finally achieving his goals and the Circle of Life is finally restored.

Romance

Nala

Nala was Simba's childhood best friend, with the two being almost inseparable. The two of them would often play together and go on their own adventures, including Simba inviting her to secretly go to The Elephant Graveyard with him. Unknown to either of them though, they were betrothed to be married one day, a fact that disgusted both of them when Zazu told them, since they found the idea of marrying their best friend "too weird". They were both shown to be mischievous and a bit bratty as cubs, with the two making fun of Zazu and later after escaping him, arguing with each other over whose idea it was and deserved credit, hinting that despite being best friends there was also a small rivalry between them. Their argument eventually escalated into a playful fight, with Simba pouncing on Nala, trying to force her to admit he was a genius like he said, but to his shock she easily defeats him by flipping him over and slamming him down, pinning him. While Nala chuckles happily and playfully teases Simba "Pinned ya" over this, showing it is all just in good fun, Simba shows to be a bit of a sore loser by rudely telling her to get off him and shoving her off, glaring at her as she turns away, embarrassed she beat him so easily while she holds her head high in victory with a smug satisfied smile. Simba notices that Nala is distracted by her win, and so despite their friendship he tries to cheat against her by pouncing on her again while she isn't looking as revenge. His efforts backfired on him though and Nala once again flipped and pinned him. Now feeling much more arrogant due to Simba's poor sportsmanship and actions, Nala smirks at Simba as she holds him down and rubs her victory in his face, taunting him "Pinned ya again", her tone now much more smug and superior than her previous friendly and playful one before. Simba is only able to silently glare at her in bitter defeat in response, refusing to accept his loss gracefully or apologize to Nala. Despite this though, Simba showed how loyal to Nala he was when they were chased by the hyenas, with Nala falling behind and almost eaten by Shenzi, Simba came to her rescue by scratching Shenzi across the face. When they were cornered by the hyenas, Simba tried to protect Nala, standing in front of her and trying to scare off the hyenas but only producing a feeble roar, before they were rescued from them by Mufasa. After Mufasa scolds Simba for deliberately disobeying him and putting himself and Nala in danger, Nala tries to comfort Simba, whispering to him that she thought he was brave. This would be the last time they would see each other for many years, with Simba running away from the Pride Lands after Mufasa's death, and Scar claiming Simba died with Mufasa in the wildebeest stampede, leaving Nala heartbroken over the apparent death of her best friend.

Years later, now young adults, Simba and Nala wound up meeting again unexpectedly when Nala tried to hunt and eat Simba's new friends Timon and Pumbaa. Simba came to their aid and fought her to protect them, with neither recognizing each other. Simba lost the fight, but quickly realized the lioness he was fighting was Nala though, since she used the same flip and pin move she used on him as cubs to pin him again. Simba gets her attention by saying her name, and reveals to her he's Simba, with the two childhood friends overjoyed to see each other again. Simba asks his friends to give them some time alone, and is shocked when he sees Nala sad, with her explaining it feels like he is back from the dead. When he tries to reassure her everything will be fine, she surprises him by nuzzling him affectionately and saying she missed him, with Simba quickly retuning the gesture and sentiment. The two friends quickly become lovers, something they would have found disgusting as cubs. Simba takes Nala on a romantic tour of the jungle as a "first date". The two end up flirting together and teasing each other, eventually getting into another play fight like when they were cubs, resulting in both tumbling down a hill together and Simba finally pinning Nala. As Simba is chuckling in amusement over this, Nala accepts her defeat gracefully, despite it being an accident, and rewards him for finally beating her with a surprise lick on the cheek, and gazing up at him seductively with a smile when he looks down at her. Simba immediately understands Nala's intent and returns her smile, and the two embrace their new love for each other, nuzzling lovingly. It is also implied they mated in this scene, resulting in Nala getting pregnant with their future daughter Kiara.

Despite their new love for each other though, Nala insisted that Simba needed to return to the Pride Lands with her and save everyone from Scar's tyranny. Simba refused, unable to do so due to his mistaken belief he was responsible for his father's death. His refusal to explain himself though resulted in a heated argument between him and Nala, with Simba storming off and the two essentially breaking up temporarily. When Simba finally decides to embrace his destiny and return to the Pride Lands, Nala joins him with the two reconciling with no hard feelings. Nala assists him in the battle, gathering the other lionesses together and fighting Scar and the hyenas after Scar confesses to murdering Mufasa and framed Simba for it. By the end of the film, Simba takes his place as King of the Pride Lands and marries Nala, as they were originally engaged to, and she rules beside him as his Queen, giving birth to their daughter.

In the second film The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Simba and Nala's relationship is still strong. When Simba becomes overprotective of Kiara, Nala teases Simba about Kiara's likeness when he was a cub. When Simba reminds her of the trouble they got into, Nala playfully pins him and reminds him he got them into trouble, before warmly nuzzling him and assuring him Kiara would be fine. Nala is more accepting of Kovu than Simba is at first due to how he saved Kiara, but remains silent when Simba later banishes Kovu, despite her shock, knowing she can't do anything to change his mind. She joins Simba and the rest of the Pride Landers in the final battle against the Outsiders, but when Kiara advocated for peace between the two groups Nala and Simba happily allowed Kovu and the Outsiders to rejoin the pride.

In The Lion Guard, Simba and Nala continue to have a loving relationship and together raise their two children Kiara and Kion, both expressing pride in their children as they grow up.

Enemies

Shenzi, Banzai and Ed

Simba and the hyena trio are major enemies. They made attempts on his life as a cub under the order's of Scar; however, all of them have ended in failure. When Simba returned as an adult he ended up fighting the hyenas who tried to kill him as a child and beat them After Simba defeated Scar, who was killed by the hyenas, even though then they have quitted being steadfast to Scar, it is assumed that the hyenas remained foes with Simba as they’re not shown together in the sequel, implying that much like the Outsiders, Simba exiled them from Pride Rock after overthrowing Scar. This theory is further supported in The Lion Guard where the young descendants of the hyena clan battle Simba's son years after the original clan's defeat.

Trivia

• In an earlier draft of The Lion King, Simba was going to tell Nala that the reason he did not want to return to Pride Rock was because he felt responsible for Mufasa's death. Afterwards, Nala would have assured Simba that Mufasa's death was an accident and that he should not blame himself.
• After meeting Timon and Pumbaa, Simba was originally going to tell them that he left the Pride Lands because of his belief that he caused Mufasa's death. Timon would of seen Simba as "a wanted criminal" (though shortly after, warmed up to Simba) whilst Pumbaa took pity on Simba. This scene would then have led to "Hakuna Matata".
• Simba, alongside with Timon and Pumbaa, is one of the most popular characters in the movie.
• Simba has influences from William Shakespeare's Hamlet as well as Bambi and Littlefoot from Don Bluth's The Land Before Time.
• In the original script to The Lion King, Simba had three maternal aunts; Naanda, Diku, and Dwala and would have been Nala's cousin (due to her being Naanda's daughter). However their relationship would have been incest, so they were changed to friends and Naanda became Sarabi's friend Sarafina and Diku and Dwala were dropped.
• Simba has never been able to beat Nala in a fight. She beat him twice while play fighting as cubs and again in a real fight as adults. He has only been able to accidentally pin her once, while they were rolling down a hill together in "Can You Feel The Love Tonight."
• Simba was originally going to have dark fur like Sarabi. However, it was later decided that he should take after Mufasa instead.
• Simba's name literally means "lion" in Swahili.
• In The Lion King comic "An Unusual Choir," reveals that Scar isn't the only relative Simba has besides his parents, as in the comic, he is shown that he has another uncle (who has a resemblance to Mufasa), an aunt (who resembles Sarabi) and two young cousins.
• In the early drafts of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Simba was meant to have two cubs: a son named Chaka and a daughter named Shani (who would eventually become Kiara). However, Chaka was cut from the film. Also in these early drafts, Simba, along with Nala, was meant to sing a lullaby to an infant Shani called "Daddy's Little Girl".
• Though not outright mentioned, it is revealed in The Lion Guard episode "Paintings and Predictions" that Simba had a great-uncle who led The Lion Guard that saved Nala's father after he fell from a tree as a cub.
• In the sequel, Simba goes through Five Stages of Grief due to Mufasa's death. He refused to let Kovu join the Pridelanders despite he saved Kiara from a wildfire (Denial), he was furious at Kovu for bringing him to the Outsiders despite he never saw there's an ambush (Anger), he selfishly exiled Kovu from Pride Lands after he got injured from a fight with the Outsiders (Bargaining), he was implied to become remorseful as he became shocked and horrified as Kiara told him that he will never become Mufasa (Depression), and he and the Pridelanders making amends with the Outsiders including accepting Kovu (Acceptance).
• In the original animated film, Simba's adolescent form is only seen during the timeskip scene. He is given a larger role in The Lion King 1½.
• Interestingly, all of Simba and Nala's children's names begin with "K" [Kopa, Kiara, Kion).
