Peter "Skinny Pete" is a supporting character in the crime drama series Breaking Bad and its 2019 sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
He is a petty criminal and drug addict (later reformed), and also a close friend of Jesse Pinkman, Badger and Combo. Despite his involvement in the drug trade, he has a heart of gold and is an exceptionally loyal friend to Jesse.
He eventually becomes a low-level meth distributor in Walter White's drug empire, and following its collapse, helps Jesse devise an escape plan to Alaska after his torture at the hands of the Neo-Nazis.
He was portrayed by Charles Baker.
Biography[]
Breaking Bad[]
Season 1[]
Skinny Pete, having served time with Tuco Salamanca in Los Lunas state prison, introduces Jesse Pinkman to Tuco to sell he and Walter White's meth. After Tuco violently assaults Jesse, Pete takes him to the hospital and informs Walter about the attack.
Season 2[]
Following Tuco's death in a shootout with Hank Schrader, Walter and Jesse launch their meth operation, with Jesse overseeing street distribution. He recruits Skinny Pete, along with friends Combo and Badger, as dealers. When some junkies (Spooge and his lady) steal from Pete, a rumor spreads that Jesse retaliated by crushing a junkie’s head with an ATM, which helps protect Pete's reputation despite the theft.
When Combo is murdered by a rival gang and Badger is arrested, Pete quits the drug game out of fear and remorse, and tells Jesse he’s lost his street cred after it’s revealed Jesse didn’t kill the junkie.
During a four-day cooking session in the RV, Jesse calls Pete for a ride back home, but gives the wrong directions, and when the phone battery dies, they’re stranded again.
Season 3[]
Despite hesitation at first, Skinny Pete resumes dealing after Jesse begins skimming meth from Gustavo Fring's superlab. Pete and Badger attend Jesse's Narcotics Anonymous meetings, pretending to be in recovery, while promoting the blue meth. However, both soon commit to the 12-step program and can’t bring themselves to sabotage others’ recovery.
Season 4[]
After killing Gale Boetticher, Jesse’s meth use escalates out of remorse. He pulls Pete and Badger back into the habit, and the three indulge in a days-long party, though even Pete and Badger grow exhausted from the excess.
Season 5[]
Jesse enlists Pete and Badger to acquire large roadie cases for his new mobile meth lab. When they ask to be included in the operation, Jesse hesitates before declining.
Later, Pete and Badger help Walt by posing as "the two best hitmen west of the Mississippi" to intimidate Gretchen and Elliott Schwartz, ensuring Walt's son will receive his money. They also inform Walt that Jesse is still cooking meth, unaware that he’s being held captive and tortured by Jack Welker’s gang.
Post-Breaking Bad[]
In El Camino, Pete and Badger are at Pete's house when Jesse, fresh from his escape from Jack’s compound, arrives in Todd Alquist's El Camino. Pete offers Jesse a safe place to hide and quickly hatches a plan to help him. They swap cars, with Pete taking the El Camino, and Badger driving Pete’s Thunderbird toward the Mexican border to mislead the authorities. Pete explains that he’ll claim they swapped pink slips, as he’s always wanted an El Camino. Jesse leaves in Badger’s Pontiac Fiero, donning Pete’s clothes and taking what remains of the money Walt gave them for scaring Gretchen and Elliott.
Though it’s not shown in the movie, Pete is later interrogated by the DEA after they raid his house. During questioning, Pete insists he has no idea where Jesse went and vows not to help them recapture him. While it’s unclear what ultimately happens to Pete, it’s likely he’s released as he has delivered no useful information.
On November 12, 2010, Francesca Liddy tells Saul Goodman that Jesse’s car was found near the Mexican border where Badger left it, meaning Pete’s plan succeeded, and the authorities now believe Jesse fled to Mexico.
