~ Skyes Riley |
Skye Riley is the main protagonist of the 2024 psychological supernatural horror film Smile 2.
She was portrayed by Naomi Scott.
Appearance[]
Skye Riley is a slender young woman of average height. Her hair was black before dyed to blonde after was car accident. She had beautiful healthy skin, although has a serpentine vertical scar from her groin to her navel, and another horizontal scar over her lower vertebrae - both markings a result of surgery after the car crash.
Biography[]
Skye suffered from severe mental illness, with anxiety, depression, and self-loathing issues. She had hoped becoming a successful music artist would allay this negative feelings, but they only got worse, and with the additional pressures from the obligations of success, Skye resorted to taking recreational drugs in excess. This turned her behavior sour, so she ended up pushing away her best friend, Gemma, and was in a toxic relationship with actor Paul Hudson. After the car accident, she quit taking drugs, and was determined to remain clean and sober.
Skye had a tense relationship with her mother, Elizabeth, since it seemed she prioritized Skye's career over Skye herself, although unintentionally, since Elizabeth had sacrificed a lot - however, there may be uncertainty if this was out of sincerity or aiming to live vicariously through Skye. Despite this, Elizabeth did seem to want to support what she thought was the best for her daughter, including not being judgmental over Skye's drug addiction and previous hostile attitude, but she lacked the empathy to truly understand Skye's real needs.
While publicly she had recuperated, in reality she was suffering from intense guilt as she had caused the car accident that killed her boyfriend; another detriment was that the injuries she endured had only healed on the surface, and she had lingering nerve damage that caused her extreme pain should she overexert herself, or for no reason at random. Skye also felt superficial agony, in that she found her scars so disgusting that she refused to wear a costume that might even slightly show them; this negative opinion on a minor flaw was likely a development from her prior self-image issues. Nevertheless, she remained dedicated to her comeback tour, as it was the only thing she felt she had good in her life.
When the Smile Entity began haunting her, she was in denial, but was still deeply unnerved. When she accepted the reality of the haunting, she was terrified and also felt exceedingly alone, since she couldn't tell anyone about it because with her history of drug abuse, they would assume she had relapsed. While the torment escalated, she refused to relent, even as her terror grew. As it reached its apex, she actually became stronger and more defiant to the Entity's manipulations and torture. However, upon realising that not only was she helpless from the start, but positioned to ensure her possessed suicide to pass on the curse, she fell into screaming and sobbing, until becoming completely emotionless like all victims when the Entity revealed its true self prior to possession.
