Heroine Overview

Skylor's right. Look at her. She could have inherited her father Chen's evil empire and rule the world, but instead dedicated her life to spending her day bent over a hot stove to provide low-cost, quality noodles to the people of Ninjago City.
~ Nya to Kai about Skylor.

Skylor Chen is a major character in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. She is the Elemental Master of Amber as well as the daughter of Master Chen.

She is voiced by Heather Doerksen.

Overview[]

Skylor was the Elemental Master of Amber, until Master Chen took them for the spell and the daughter of the notorious Master Chen. Born with her mother's elemental power of Amber, Skylor was raised by Chen on his island while mastering her powers. Under her father's command, Skylor partook in the Tournament of Elements and served as Chen's spy in order to create tension between the Ninja and the Elemental Masters, preventing them from standing against Chen while he took their elements for his plan to transform himself and his army into Anacondrai. The scheme was foiled, however, when her growing affections for Kai made her realize the error of her ways, and betrayed Chen in favor of her newfound friends. Despite this, Chen used Skylor's powers to complete the spell, which also transformed her into an Anacondrai.

Skylor allied with the Ninja and Elemental Masters fighting her father's army at the Corridor of Elders. When the Fake Anacondrai proved too strong, Sensei Garmadon (formerly as Lord Garmadon) sacrificed himself to free the spirits of the Anacondrai generals from the Cursed Realm. The generals condemned Chen and his army, leaving Skylor to pursue a new life outside of her father's criminal empire. After her father was banished to the Cursed Realm, Skylor took over the family business and began working at his noodle house in Ninjago City.

When Nadakhan imprisoned all the Elemental Masters in the Sword of Souls, she and (Jay Walker) were the only ones left free. Jay created a team to raid New Djinjago, with Skylor being a member. The team entered the floating city, which began collapsing after Nadakhan was weakened. Due to Jay's final wish, recent events were undone and Skylor was never called into action.

At some point after this and before the supposed demise of the original ninja, Skylor regained her powers. She and the other Elemental Masters rescued Lloyd and the others, forming a new team in a bid to resist Lord Garmadon's oppressive rule. She, along with Dareth, Lloyd, Nya, and Mystake survived an attack by the Sons of Garmadon that captured the rest of the resistance. Mistake and Skylor eventually went to Garmadon with the intent of Skylor stealing his power of Destruction and Creation to hopefully stop his Colossus. While Skylor was successful, Mystake is incapacitated and killed by Garmadon. Skylor and Garmadon fight for control over the Colossus, with Garmadon victorious as the power, overwhelmed Skylor, causing her to fall sick to it. When Garmadon is eventually defeated by Lloyd, and his powers disappear, Skylor returns to normal health and is overjoyed to see Kai, who had returned from an alternate realm with the other ninja. She is then hailed as a hero of Ninjago for her part during the takeover.

Sometime later, after Nya's emergence to the Endless Sea and disappearance, Skylor attended her memorial to honor her. One year later, she was recruited by the ninja to help them keep a returning Nya's water form stable in ice while they went illegally to Kryptarium Prison and Borg Tower to break out Aspheera and retrieve her staff in order to drain Nya's powers from her, thus returning her human form. Just when Skylor had problems keeping up, the ninja and Aspheera arrived. The former convinced the latter to successfully return Nya's human form in exchange for letting her escape from the arriving New Ninja. The ninja were thus sentenced to prison, with Skylor later defending them. While attempting to appeal their sentence, Skylor learned from the ninja about the Crystal King before Dareth, with Nya's help, broke the ninja out. Later on, the Council of the Crystal King, made up of former enemies, break into the monastery, steal the Golden Weapons and destroy the monastery. Regrouping at the Samurai X Cave and after rescuing Lloyd, the ninja attempt to fight back against the Overlord, but fail. Skylor manages to rescue Kai and Cole from Pythor before they help reunite Jake with his parents. During which, Kai and Skylor start to resolve conflicts between their relationship and start anew. Not long after, she assists in rebuilding the monastery.

Appearance[]

Skylor has short eyelashes and orange lipstick on her face, with long cherry red hair in a ponytail. In Season 9, her hair became a darker shade of red.

She has an orange hood and suit, with black gloved hands. Her suit sports a Japanese symbol on the chest, with a light orange belt and a strap with more symbols on either side of her waist. On her Jungle hood, the Chinese symbol for "6" (六)is emblazoned above the eyeholes. From Skybound to The Hands of Time, her sleeves became maroon along with her hood and she wears leather armor. In Hunted, her sleeves are now gunmetal gray to match her armor, with the right half of her torso covered by it. She also wears dark red gloves and a red utility belt.

In her Anacondrai form, Skylor has purple skin covered by scales. Her hair and lips become purple as well, and her eyebrows become black. Her outfit remains the same, but with some parts of it torn, such as her arms and waist, where she has a long purple tail like the others.

In "Saving Faith," when she fought for control for Colossus, Skylor's eyes turn purple from being "poisoned." This was reversed in "Green Destiny" when Garmadon lost his powers.

Abilities & Weapons[]

Abilities[]

  • Amber: Skylor is a powerful user of the elemental power of Amber. She inherited her powers from her mother.
    • Elemental Replication - Skylor can absorb and replicate the powers of other Elemental Masters by only physical contact. When Skylor replicate an Elemental Master's powers she also takes time to learn how to use them and record an attack technique to use it as their own.
      • Elemental Combination - Skylor can combine the Elemental Powers they have gathered to help attack or escape from enemies. She used this ability to combine Shade and Mr. Pale's respective elements to avoid being spotted by Garmadon.
  • Skilled combat: Skylor has shown that she is a very capable hand-to-hand combatant, especially when she has her powers or additional weaponry. During the period that Skylor had her Elemental Power inactive after Season 4, she has shown more of her fighting and acrobatic abilities prominently and used them more oftenly in Season 6 and season 9. She was able to fend off hordes of Sky Pirates in season 6 and was one of The Resistance's most powerful combatants in season 9, as she was able to beat numerous Sons of Garmadon members during the ambush in "The Gilded Path" and showed particular skill when facing two bikers with a single trash can lid at the end of "Two Lies, One Truth". In the sets, Skylor usually comes with a Bow-and-Arrow or a Crossbow, however, she never used any of these in the show.

Weapons[]

  • Weapon proficiency: Skylor is skilled enough to use many weapons, although in the show she has used more oftenly katanas in season 9 when facing the S.O.G and Harumi, she showed skill in using a spear when facing Jacob Pevsnerin her father's Tournament of Elements. Skylor has also shown skill in using normal daily-life tools as weapons against her opponents such as a normal ladder to fight off the Sky Pirates and a trash can lid to fight two S.O.G members after losing her katana to Mohawk.
  • Hoverboard: She was also skilled enough to fly in the Blade-Copter's rocketboard with ease.

Personality[]

At first, Skylor was shown to be somewhat aloof from the other Elemental Masters, as she guilt-tripped Kai by getting defensive that the Fire Ninja didn't believe her that she wasn't the spy amongst the other Tournament participants, and walked off in anger when she showed him her back, free of any Anacondrai tattoo. When Kai eventually realized the truth, however, it was too late and Skylor gleefully helped her father bring Kai and the other Elemental Masters into the dungeons below the island where Chen would drain them of their Elemental Powers.

However, Skylor began to regret what she had done, and with her growing feelings for Kai, she betrayed her father and helped the other Elemental Masters fight against the fake Anacondrai. Due to her allegiance to the cultists, though, Skylor was transformed partly into an Anacondrai, but Kai assured her that regardless of her physical form, she was still a good person. Following her father's banishment, Skylor took up the ownership and management of Chen's Noodle House, and informed Dareth that she would put Puffy Potstickers back on the menu, much to the Brown Ninja's delight.

In an alternate timeline, with the other Ninja and Wu trapped in Nadakhan's Djinn Blade, Skylor agreed to help Jay rescue them, showing a loyal side to herself.

With Wu rapidly aging and learning the horrifying truth about what happened to their parents, Skylor offered Kai and Nya free noodles, showing that she is capable of compassion towards others in times of trouble. She even offered to join the team in fighting against the Vermillion warriors, but her offer was politely turned down by the siblings. Skylor then wondered in solace if making "low-quality noodles" was that all she was good for.

During Garmadon's occupation of Ninjago City, Skylor was determined to help Lloyd regain his powers and fight against his father and his subordinates, even if it meant risking her life to protect him from Garmadon's wrath. She was also overjoyed when she learned that the other Ninja were alive, and affectionately regrouped with Kai upon seeing him return from the Realm of Oni and Dragons.

Following Nya's sacrifice, Skylor attended her memorial, mourning the loss of her dear friend. A year later, Skylor decided to help the Ninja in bringing back Nya; she also accompanied Dareth to visit the Ninja in Kryptarium Prison.
