Slaine Troyard is the secondary protagonist turned main antagonist of the anime ALDNOAH.ZERO.
Personality[]
Slaine is shown to be very friendly with Asseylum Vers Allusia being completely loyal to her. When presented with the possibility of her being alive, he boldly went after her alone. His loyalty to the her can be further attested by the fact that even when he was being tortured, he would still not reveal that she was alive.
He is more than willing to fight in order to protect Princess Asseylum, and yet he saved Count Saazbaum's life despite the fact that he is an enemy of Princess Asseylum, showing a lack of control of his emotions; however, this is likely due to how Slaine sympathies the count for the loss of his fiancée after hearing his story and seeing a recording of Orlane's demise. Most Martians have viewed him with contempt whereas others like Count Saazbaum and the soldier who saved his life have not.

Background[]
A young Slaine went with his father Dr. Troyard on a research mission to Mars. Upon arriving, he crash landed on Mars. His lungs were filled with hyper-oxygenated fluid for liquid breathing, which he tried to cough out. A young Asseylum then came and helped him by removing the liquid through reverse mouth to mouth resuscitation. The two would develop a friendship over time, and he would tell her about what the Earth was like.
After Dr. Troyard's death, Slaine went under the custody of Count Cruhteo.

Second Earth-Mars War[]
In an Orbital Castle orbiting Earth, Slaine and Asseylum talk about the Earth while watching it from above. Slaine tells her about what made the sky and ocean blue. Before she departs, Slaine promises to tell her more about Earth the next day.
Before Asseylum goes down to Earth to make peace with the Terrans, she and Slaine converse before he gives her farewell. One point during the conversation, he expresses his concern for her safety, but she still insists on going, believing that she must take a first step towards coexistence between the two planets. He then gives her his amulet, which he describes as a Terran good luck charm that wards off evil spirits. At first, she declines out of concern about the fact he got it from his father, but Slaine assures her that his father would've also let her have it as gratitude for saving them 5 years ago. She gives him her thanks before departing and Cruhteo enters.
Cruhteo, out of nowhere, hits Slaine in the face with his cane and verbally puts him down telling him to know his place, before leaving afterwards.
After the assassination attempt on Asseylum during the parade, the Vers Knights went out to war, and Slaine showing concern for her called her name as he went down while in Cruhteo's descending Landing Castle.
