John Herbert, codenamed Slash, is a character from the Ace Combat video game series, serving as a deuteragonist of Ace Combat 2 and its remake, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy. During the Usean coup d'etat, he was a member of the Scarface Squadron, assisting it in stopping the coup forces. He was later assigned to the Stonehenge patrol squadron with the goal of defending the turret network from any threats.
He was voiced by Shinshu Fuji in Assault Horizon Legacy.

John Herbert was born on July 4, 1964, in central Usea. He eventually became a mercenary pilot, serving and gaining experience under Ulrich Olsen's command.
Ace Combat 2/Assault Horizon Legacy[]
During the Usean coup d'etat, Herbert served in the Scarface squadron under the codename "Slash" as the wingman of Phoenix, assisting him on several missions until the rebel forces were at last defeated.
Shattered Skies[]
A little before the Ulysses planetfall, Slash was assigned to the STN Air Policing Squadron, formed to protect the Stonehenge turret network. Years later, said squadron engaged Erusea's Yellow Squadron when the country attempted to take control of the weapon, but was all but obliterated by the invaders. Whether Slash survived the battle is unknown.

- Slash was originally referred to as "John Harvard", but in Assault Horizon Legacy his second name was retconned into "Herbert".
- Two other characters from Electrosphere and The Unsung War are also named "John Harvard", similar to multiple Ace Combat character bearing the name "Kei Nagase".
