The Synopsis of Slippy Toad from the Star Fox franchise.
Biography[]
First Timeline[]
Star Fox[]
Slippy's debut in the Star Fox series is in "Star Fox". Slippy tended to get himself chased by the enemy more often than the other two pilots, and had a croaking verbal tic that was removed in later appearances.
Star Fox 2[]
Slippy appears in "Star Fox 2" as one of six playable characters (the four males plus females Miyu and Fay).
Main Timeline[]
Early History[]
In his childhood, Slippy was schoolmates with Fox, and possibly Falco. Being the son of Beltino, the Director of Engineering of Space Dynamics, Slippy learned a great deal of numerous things from his father and the two cooperated for Cornerian R&D to invent and construct many machines for the Cornerian Defense Force, and the Star Fox Team.
While Slippy was also classmates with Fox at the Cornerian Defense Force Academy and training to be a fighter pilot, Fox learned from Peppy Hare that his father, James McCloud, had been betrayed by Pigma Dengar, and presumably murdered by Andross. Fox then convinced Slippy to join up with him and Peppy to form a new Star Fox Team, as the team inventor and mechanic. However, Slippy did not complete his flight training.
Lylat War[]
Slippy played a major role in the Lylat Wars as a new (and barely experienced) pilot of the Arwing. His main role was somewhat shared with Peppy, giving information about the area and to analyze the shield strength of bosses. Slippy's lack of flying experience with flying got him into trouble more often than any other team member, for which Falco relentlessly picks on him. When the first mission began on Corneria, Slippy's enthusiastic nature led to him breaking away from formation and getting scolded by Peppy for it, only for a Granga Fighter to tail him. When passing the waterfall beyond the seas behind Corneria City if either Falco was downed or the player did not go through the hollow formations if Falco is around, Slippy will be able to notice Granga's Mech before the All-Range arena.
During dogfights between the rival team called Star Wolf on Fichina, Bolse and Venom, Slippy shared a rivalry with Andross's nephew Andrew Oikonny, who frequently attacks him as long as Andrew is active, although there was never been anything to suggest the two characters have a history, and there was little to no dialogue between them, but what both sides do have in common is that they are both inexperienced pilots.
At Sector X, when Fox was facing a malfunctioning robot called Spyborg at the remains of the space base, Slippy deliberately broke formation like in Corneria and ignored Peppy's demands as he attempted to fight the haywired robot by himself. If Fox takes too much longer to take it down after Slippy does it, Spyborg then managed to land a hit on Slippy's Arwing and send him flying off course, much to Fox's dismay. As per Fox's request for information on Slippy's whereabouts, ROB was able to detect a distress signal coming from Titania.
Since the Corneria Defense Force does have a tank force of their own, Slippy and Beltino had already constructed a prototype Landmaster tank for whenever the situation called for ground based missions. Fox chose to use the only prototype Landmaster as his vehicle when searching for Slippy after he crash landed on Titania. After being found, Slippy was very grateful to Fox rescuing him from the Goras that Andross augmented. On Macbeth, Fox also used the Landmaster to closely follow the Forever Train, giving Slippy the opportunity to ask Fox how the Landmaster was faring for him.
When the Star Fox Team aided the Cornerian Husky and Bulldog squadrons on Katina, Slippy expressed that because of the Invader IIs using camouflage paint to look like the Cornerian Fighters, it was hard to tell the good guys from the bad ones.
On Solar, Slippy proudly said that the Arwings could take temperatures up to 9000 degrees, but even when the extreme heat itself cannot actually down an Arwing, it only takes being hit to take it down. Since Solar was higher than 9000 degrees, it was not enough to keep the shields from dropping. Halfway through Solar, even Slippy found the sweltering heat to be too much for him.
For the mission under the Aquas Ocean, Slippy had already prepared the Blue-Marine for underwater based missions, and gave Fox advice about the experimental Blue-Marine, while expressing disgust at the pollution that was getting started. After Bacoon is defeated, he was praised by Fox and Peppy for his brilliance on being able to create the submarine for this mission but also jokingly criticized for being useful for once, and Falco joined in by citing that he'd take the sky any day.
At Bolse, he informs Fox that the fighters, like the central core, are shielded and again fights Andrew of Star Wolf (if Andrew is taken out in Fichina, he will not appear). At Area 6, he helps fight off some enemy forces and gives information on the Gorgon's weakness. On Venom, he attempts to avoid the temple where Golemech is, but goes in anyway. At Andross's palace, he engages with Andrew again, and protests against Fox going in alone, but his attempts proved futile. After Fox comes out of the exploding base, Slippy will praise him and they head to Corneria to be congratulated by General Pepper. They then head to the Great Fox and fly off into the sunset.
Titania Incident[]
Slippy went to Titania's research base with the rest of the Star Fox team, minus Falco, who abruptly went missing without telling anyone where he went. After seeing Fox and Falco get into a dogfight that Fox narrowly lost, Slippy speaks up that he was more worried about Falco's Arwing than Fox's since it maintained worse damage due to it crashing in the Titania desert. After Fox explained his side of the story, Peppy sends Slippy to Captain Shears's base to investigate anything suspicious about him, after the Star Fox team learned some information (like Falco apparently siding with the Androssian rebels) that just don't add up at all. Unfortunately, Captain Shears learned that Star Fox did not stop the Free-as-a-Bird group (the group he claimed were Androssian rebels) so he dispatched the Goras to capture anyone who tried to come near the base.
Slippy was competent at driving the Landmaster, but was also on the fence with going to the base, as he does not have any good memories of the last time he was on Titania. Ironically, it was while reliving these bad memories that he ended up kidnapped by the Goras and then being thrown into a cell by Shears' men. He was later rescued by Fox and tried to stop Andross's revival, but only succeeded in quickening it thanks to Andross taking notice of Fox and having his memories of their encounter regained quickly in the process. Slippy was covered in slime from the laboratory equipment and Andross's breakout, which resulted in Peppy mistaking him for an alien parasite. Due to Falco leaving the team, Slippy took his place as Fox's "rival" regarding virtual training of the Arwing, although Fox was less than impressed since Slippy was not a good competetor in the training sessions as with the actual Arwing despite him creating the VR training in the first place.
Plight of Sauria[]
After ROB was breaking down during a briefing on what was occurring on Sauria, Slippy attempted to get him fixed, and managed to do so successfully when the Great Fox arrived within close proximity to Sauria. After Fox and Peppy asked Slippy to turn down the jukebox a bit, Slippy "compiled" by tossing his wrench at the jukebox and turning it off completely, to the annoyance of Fox. Upon learning of Sauria's impending destruction, he also attempted to fix up ROB after the latter briefly malfunctioned when giving data on what was going on, finishing his repairs by the time the Great Fox arrived at Sauria's proximity.
Slippy also helped out remotely instead of flying, he had stuck with giving Fox information and helpful hints about his surroundings. Slippy has spent more time on working on his developments and less time on active flight duty, with one such design being a translation device for Dino, and gave his stab at translating the Queen Earthwalker's statements to Fox before it was completed and the SharpClaw disguise which enabled Fox to fool the Sharpclaw and get into restricted areas undetected. When Andross was defeated again and Falco returned, Slippy happily recited: "The Star Fox Team is back together again.", showing his appreciation of Falco. Slippy also gladly accepted Krystal into the team as well.
Aparoid Invasion[]
A year later, with the Star Fox team being reunited, with Krystal as their new member, they take on a rebellion that is being led by Andrew Oikonny and as the team run into their Arwings, Slippy gradually falls behind as the team board their Arwings for launching like normal, Slippy ends up falling head first into his ship and had to adjust for proper seating. Slippy and the rest of Star Fox took part in the battle against the ongoing rebellion over the planet Fortuna. Arriving in time to save the Cornerian fleet from being annihilated, Slippy fights against Oikonnys fleet and he gets tailed easily, but was saved by Fox, and was poked fun at by Falco who remarks "You haven't changed a bit Frog-boy". During the battle, Slippy was able to find Oikonny's stealth squadron via radar, giving Fox an early warning on the enemy in ambush and they were eventually have to go to the planet, since Oikonny had made a quick run there. At the battle, they reached Oikonny's base, but discovered they were waiting for them. Slippy was tailed, and once again saved by Fox. They finally catch up to Oikonny, who turned his ship to a weaker look-alike of his late uncle, Andross. Slippy was able to analyze his shields, and the team easily defeated him. Oikonny however, taunted them, before being shot down by an unknown assailant; The shooter turned out to be a bug-like alien that turned out to be extremely hostile by its attempt at killing Krystal. After defeating it, Slippy spotted more of these creatures and warned Fox about them, but not before Fox retrieved something from the dead Aparoid that Peppy knew was vital to learning about the new threat.
It was soon shown to Slippy and the team that the creature that they recently encountered was called an "Aparoid" by General Pepper. It was then revealed to Slippy's chagrin that his father, Beltino Toad, was the research director. Beltino told them the story of a single Aparoid destroyed a fleet with only a few survivors to learn of their existence. The object that Fox found, was called a Core Memory and it may be useful in the near future. General Pepper then informs them that he detected a distress signal from the Katina outpost, but are strangely unable to get in contact with anyone, and tells them to find the source of the distress signal as Fox orders Slippy and the rest to cover him from Arwings. At the battle, several Aparoids were confirmed to be attacking the base, which later dropped Aparoid Hatchers. Slippy was tailed and rescued by Fox once again, who was currently driving the Landmaster. Slippy questions if there were survivors in the building. Finally, after killing the rest of the Aparoids, the Aparoid Ship appeared and Slippy panicked at its size, exclaiming that "It's huge!". He was nontheless able to download its shield, and they eventually d it. Testroyed it. They discovered that it also held a Core Memory, but suddenly, Pigma came out of nowhere and stole it, forcing the team to find him and get it back.
Slippy learned based on his intelligence that Pigma apparently stopped at the Sargasso Space Zone, while growing worried due to it being the HQ of all sorts of criminals. Because the Ruffians learned that Star Fox was in the system when they hailed them, and with the thugs lack of cooperation, Slippy accompanied Fox to take on the interior of the space station, while Falco and Krystal handled the enemies and held off several of the enemy soldiers/mechs that swarmed the building while Fox took out the transportation modules, and up to Star Wolf's arrival. Slippy remained out of this battle up until they were informed that Pigma was kicked out of the team for his greed and general untrustworthiness and that Panther Caroso had joined their ranks. Panther, who is infatuated with Krystal, lets slip that Pigma headed to Fichina, much to Wolf's chagrin.
Slippy alongside the rest of the Star Fox team arrived at Fichina, only to discover that Pigma and the Aparoids had tampered the climate control center on the planet, which started a blizzard. Slippy continued his support to Fox via the comm channel, because Fox is the only one capable of actually going down to the planet so he can destroy the shield generators and ending the snowstorm. He then cheered that the climate control center had been reactivated and the ceasing of the blizzard, although his joy was short-lived when Fox was attacked by malfunctioning Sentry Bots. He, alongside Krystal, later takes part in backing up Fox in taking out the Aparoids. Slippy later did an analysis on the security droids because they were acting suspicious as they were attacking Fox and they were not originally programmed to harm innocent folks, and discovered that they had become infected victims of Aparoidedation and reprogrammed into mindless slaves to the hive mind. He then speaks up about his revelation to Fox and Falco, although Pigma then confirms Slippy's analysis before infecting the climate control center's core, which they managed to neutralize.
After Pigma fled in the chaos of Fichina, they tracked him down to the asteroid field. Upon arrival, Slippy noticed the wreckage of the Wolfens, indicating that Star Wolf had been through this area ahead of Star Fox, and Krystal believes that they might have escaped alive. Slippy also noticed some ships pursuing the Arwings and lets them know about the incoming rocket meteorites and closing meteors. He later ended up getting attacked by some Aparoid ships at Pigma's base and was shocked at the Aparoidetized prototype mech from Fortuna, which would fuse with an Aparoid assimilated Pigma and he fights him alongside the other Star Fox members, which they were finally were able to kill him off.
With the Core Memory retrieved, General Pepper informs the team that it revealed the location of the Aparoid Homeworld, but before they could head there, Krystal catches on to a telepathic message from the inhabitants of Sauria and hears cries of agony, the team was forced to put off going there and redirecting their route to Sauria. Star Fox arrived to end the disaster, in which Slippy controlled the skies of Sauria with Falco while Fox and Krystal handles things from the ground.
Later, it was revealed by General Pepper that the attack on Sauria was a distraction so the Aparoids would attack Corneria and the radars are cut, and the general himself ends up losing communication and went missing. Corneria was devastated by Aparoid attacks, and Slippy continued to hold the same role as before while Fox is taking out the radar jammers and is shocked when Star Wolf arrived to help them deal with the threat. Later on, he, like the others, were very reluctant to have to destroy General Pepper's Flagship to prevent Aparoid Infection on them from taking hold.
Contacted again by his father Beltino, Slippy was the first to learn of the possible apoptosis weakness that could wipe the Aparoid Race out for good and a self-destruct program might be the solution. Bombarded by Aparoid swarms at the Beltino Orbital Gate, Slippy fought against the invasion with the Star Fox and even Star Wolf team and remaining Cornerian military.
Arriving at the Homeworld, Slippy held piloting position with Falco once again. However, occasionally, he reported to Fox that he is unable to assist him in destroying the Aparoid Hatchers because of the architecture of the base making sighting impossible, also making a complaint to the Aparoids for apparently never having heard of windows. A bit later, he was able to make an immediate analysis on the Anti-Laser Shield that deterred any invaders, before Peppy made an impetuous suicide move to disable it. Though crying over the loss of Peppy and ROB, Slippy soared into the tunnels of the Homeworld with the rest of the team. Upon encountering the Aparoid Queen, Slippy dismissed the Queen's deceptive imitations of their fallen friends, despite almost falling for it, which allowed the team to fire the Self-Destruct program into her. He warned the team of the Queen's suppression towards the program as a dire counterattack, causing the true final battle to commence and weakened her further to allow it to activate and destroy her, all of the Aparoids, and rendered the homeworld on the verge of destruction, prompting the team to flee.
After the Queen's destruction with the rest of her kind, the Star Fox team managed to escape the exploding planet, taking both a tremendous victory and a heart crushing remembrance with them. Slippy looks to the side of his Arwing and ends up being the first to discover that Peppy and ROB had miraculously survived their earlier sacrifice, albeit with only the bridge console remaining of the Great Fox, and ended up screaming in shock, initially causing the team concern before celebrating their survival. He also learns that Fox knew all about it, or at least perceived that they would survive, causing him to call Fox a "sneaky dog. When asking what to do next, Fox thanks the team for their support.
Anglar Blitz[]
Years later, Slippy had went to Aquas at one point and meets a pink frog woman named Amanda and quickly falls in love with her, resulting in him spending less time with the Star Fox team, which has disbanded as the team left for various reasons. Depending on the path taken, Slippy will join in on the fight against the Anglars. Depending on the ending they get, Slippy will either rejoin the team, with one ending having Amanda becoming a member, or he will retire with Amanda to start a large family (and eventually grandchildren), with his son joining up in the new Star Fox team consisting of the leader Marcus, Fox and Krystal's son, Peppy's granddaughter, and the aged Falco. However, all of the events are non-canon.
Star Fox Zero[]
Slippy returns in Star Fox Zero acting like he did before, giving out a bossometer if he is on the battlefield.
