The Smiling Critters are the titular main protagonists of the in-universe franchise of the same name. They were created by Playtime Co., and they made their debut in Poppy Playtime - Chapter 3: Deep Sleep.
Biography[]
The Smiling Critters are team of small and colorful anthropomorphic animals, they each wear a pendant that represents the core aspect of who they are.
CatNap Recall Cartoon[]
Suddenly, the door to the house opens, revealing CatNap. The other critters smile at him. Several of the critters, Bubba Bubbaphant, PickyPiggy, KickinChicken, and Hoppy Hopscotch begs CatNap to help them sleep. The scene cuts to a realistic close up of CatNap exhaling the Poppy Gas. The other critters start laughing uncontrollably before the video distorts and cuts to CatNap sitting on the couch with the other critters unresponsive. It's unknown whether the other critters were killed or unconscious from the gas. Afterward, the new report to recall all CatNap toys to be disposed of and remove CatNap from the promotional material due to many children experiencing nightmares with red smoke from the CatNap products.
Past[]
In the summer of 1989, the Smiling Critters were created by Playtime Co. and to promote the launch of the toys, a cartoon of the same name would air on every Saturday.
At some point, the Smiling Critters became the main mascots of Playcare. After late 1990, the characters would be used in the Bigger Bodies Initiative, with all eight orphans, including Theodore Grambell who became CatNap, would be housed in Playcare. On August 8, 1995, CatNap and the other monstrous experiments participate in The Hour of Joy, killing the employees in the whole Playtime Co. factory. However, the rest of the Bigger Bodies Smiling Critters allegedly fought back The Prototype's control, but were eventually killed by the Prototype or CatNap, leaving DogDay being the last survivor in the group and tortured in the Playhouse's prison cells.

Bobby BearHug[]
Bobby BearHug is a red bear with a heart-shaped pendant. She is the most kindhearted and compassionate out of the Smiling Critters. She loves to hug others, and is typically the first to resolve a conflict among her fellow critters.
Bubba Bubbaphant[]
Bubba Bubbaphant is a blue elephant with a lightbulb-shaped pendant. He is the smartest and most knowledgeable of the Smiling Critters. He loves sharing knowledge with others and he frequently makes interesting observations whenever he can.
CatNap[]
CatNap is a purple cat with a moon-shaped pendant. He is a mute, but calm critter who makes sure his friends always have the right amount of sleep. He loves to watch his friends sound asleep.
CraftyCorn[]
CraftyCorn is a white unicorn with a flower-shaped pendant with differently colored petals. She is shy and a bit awkward around others, but is also the most creative of Smiling Critters. A true artist at heart, she expresses herself through drawing and can see the beauty in almost anything.
DogDay[]
DogDay is an orange dog with a sun-shaped pendant. He is the leader of the Smiling Critters, and is the most upbeat and welcoming of the Smiling Critters. Whenever his friends are down or there's a situation, he always finds a way to brighten things up.
Hoppy Hopscotch[]
Hoppy Hopscotch is a green rabbit with a lightning bolt-shaped pendant. She is the motivator and is the resident tomboy of the Smiling Critters. Although she can be loud and impatient at times, Hoppy is there to make sure her friends keep their enthusiasm and energy.
KickinChicken[]
KickinChicken is a yellow chicken with a star-shaped pendant. He is the the cool kid of the bunch and the most confident of the Smiling Critters. He love to skateboard and have fun, but can be scared easily.
PickyPiggy[]
PickyPiggy is a pink pig with an apple-shaped pendant. She loves food, both preparing it, and eating it. She ensures that both she and her friends have a balanced and nutritious meal.
