|~ Smoke's Battle Cry in Mortal Kombat (2011).|
Smoke is a Lin Kuei assassin and a hero in the Mortal Kombat series. A close friend of Kuai Liang, he is often forced into becoming a unwilling villain, such as being transformed into a cyborg in the original timeline, and a Revenant in the rebooted timeline. However at some point, he is able to return to his heroic true self. He is voiced by Ken Lally in Mortal Kombat (2011) and Andrew Bowden as his more villainous self in Mortal Kombat X.
Smoke also known as Tomas Vrbada, is a member of the Lin Kuei. He is a close friend and ally of the younger Sub-Zero (Formerly Tundra) Kuai Liang.
Mortal Kombat II
Smoke was originally a secret character along with Jade. In the game's story, Smoke accompanied the new Sub-Zero to Outworld on an unsuccessful mission to assassinate Shang Tsung. However, after they returned to Earthrealm, they found that the Lin Kuei had been converted into cyborgs. Smoke and Sub-Zero abandoned the Lin Kuei, but Smoke was captured and forcibly converted into a Cyborg.
Mortal Kombat 3
Having become a Cyber Lin Kuei, Smoke along with Cyrax and Sektor, was part of the Lin Kuei's alliance with Shao Kahn when he invaded Earthrealm, with Smoke himself assigned to kill Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero, believing his friend's soul was buried within the cyborg, managed to remind him of his humanity. Smoke's soul overcome his programming, and joined Raiden's chosen warriors in the struggle against Shao Kahn. While battling the Outworld invasion, Smoke managed to defeat Cyrax and Sektor, but was captured by Kahn's forces and imprisoned as a trophy of war.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
After being reprogrammed to serve Noob Saibot, Smoke and Noob were defeated in their assault on the Lin Kuei by Taven. Sub-Zero vowed to restore them to their original selves, and seems to have succeeded with Smoke, while Noob rejected the process. In the Battle of Armageddon, Smoke was fighting with the Forces of Light against the Forces of Darkness, facing Nitara. Like the majority of the warriors, Smoke was killed.
Mortal Kombat (2011)
In the rebooted timeline, Smoke, along with Kuai Liang, who had taken on the mantle of Sub-Zero, split to find the murderer of the Elder Sub-Zero. After battling Kitana, Smoke discovered Shang Tsung and Kano in the Living Forest, making a heavy weapons deal. Trying to stop them, the Lin Kuei battled Kano, then took on Shang Tsung and Reptile, defeating them despite Tsung using Bi-Han's form. He is ambushed by Sektor and the Lin Kuei, who had been converted into cyborgs, and was got captured for conversion, but was saved by Raiden and allied up the Earthrealm Warriors.
Mortal Kombat X
Smoke, like most of his comrades, were resurrected by Quan Chi back in the last game to serve him and Shinnok.
Powers and Abilities
As a human, Smoke had the ability to emit smoke, most commonly seen as the smoky fumes that his human forms emit. He still seems to retain this ability in his cyborg form, though he doesn't seem to use it much. Smoke usually uses this ability to disappear or create a cloud of fumes that his opponent chokes on, making them open to an attack. After becoming a nanotech based cyborg, his body appears to be made of smoke or nanites emulating the appearance of smoke. Smoke also gained the ability to transform others into shadow warriors by flowing his gaseous mist into them.
