~ Smormu |
Smormu James Carter was a minor character in Smiling Friends and the short-lived fifth member of Smiling Friends Inc.. He was granted the role after a very divisive voting period that split the country in two. He made his first appearance in the episode "Mr. Frog" before making an expanded appearance in "Shrimp's Odyssey." He would later die off-screen.
He was voiced by Chris O'Neill.
Appearance[]
He was a small, pale teal critter with a large nose, stubby arms, and two eyes perched on top of his head. He was slightly pudgy. He wore a hot pink t-shirt with Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential election slogan, 'I'm With Her,' written in yellow, along with yellow shorts, grey socks, and white sneakers with an orange strap and a blue tongue.
Personality[]
Smormu was enthusiastic and benevolent to an exaggerated and irritating degree. In his only on-screen appearance, he tried to cheer a saddened Pim up with a dance and song, however this only bewildered Pim more, and prompted Charlie to walk away in annoyance.
Biography[]
Smormu first made a cameo appearance at the end of "Mr. Frog," where he can be seen in the thumbnail of a video he uploaded titled "I was ROBBED in PARIS."
He appears again in the cold opening of "Shrimp's Odyssey," where a poll is presented to decide if he will become the fifth Smiling Friend. The poll seemed to be heavily rigged in Smormu's favor, and he ended up winning. Near the end of the episode, Smormu runs into the spaghetti bar and dances, attempting to cheer up Pim, as the narrator gleefully confirms that Smormu is now permanently part of the cast. Later, the episode's "In Loving Memory" card revealed that Smormu had died, though the cause remains unknown. After his death, he appeared with sickly skin, along with warts and bruises on his body.
Trivia[]
- The song that Smormu sings is a variation of what is known as the "Arabian Riff", or "the shake charmer song."
- It has been suggested that Smormu was created to poke fun at characters such as Scrappy-Doo or Cousin Oliver, both being created with the intention of boosting their respective shows ratings to save them cancellation.
- According to the displayed election results, Smormu slightly won the popular vote, but barely lost the electoral vote. This is the same result received by the Clinton 2016 presidential campaign, whose shirt Smormu is wearing.
