~ Sonic the Hedgehog, "Trail of the Missing Tails". |
Sonic the Hedgehog is the titular main protagonist of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series.
He is a young teenage hedgehog and a world-famous, universally beloved Freedom Fighter who roams around Mobius and using his quick wits to combat evil and prevent the evil tyranny of Dr. Ivo Robotnik. This is the first cartoon animated incarnation of the same character, Sonic the Hedgehog.
He was voiced by Jaleel White, who also portrayed Steve Urkel in Family Matters.
Appearance[]
Like in the original Sonic the Hedgehog Mega Drive games that lead to the creation of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic is a blue, anthropomorphic hedgehog with a light yellow muzzle and belly.
His head and back are covered in quills, which are instrumental in his buzz saw attack. He always wears the same red and white pair of shoes, which are heat-resistant and necessary for his incredible running ability.
He also wears gloves and seems to have conjoined eyeballs with black pupils.
Personality[]
Sonic enjoys traveling around the world, running and works passionately to defend Mobius from the threat of Dr. Robotnik. He has also shown to be quite cunning and deceitful, as well as being so street-smart, he can create charismatic personas that he can fully manipulate and utilize to his heroic advantages by using various tricks like mind games, misdirection and tons of disguises to get one over his opponents in the style of Bugs Bunny, especially whenever his speed is nullified.
He's also happens to have unique and diverse personality traits different from his canon counterpart, like this take on Sonic carrying a very mischievous/cheeky/playful sense of humor, having some impatience to him, having the overconfident "young hipster" attitude with many of his rhymes and radical one-liners, being a optimistic "older brother" role-model to Tails (most especially in the Sonic Says segments) and has shown to be a charming ladiesman towards several women on Mobius.
He also happens to be an intelligent person and generally one of the smartest and sanest characters in the whole show, many "Sonic Says" segments has him playing the role as a role model. Which also showcases how much Sonic values reading, knowledge, wisdom and education as well. Even when Sonic sometimes doesn't anticipate when Robotnik and his goons are an actual threat to him, Sonic will be sure to learn from this and create more tricks to deflate Robotnik's plans.
Even though his personality is quite arrogant and sassy, he can be condescending towards non-powered individuals, he always loves a good risky challenge thrown at him and revels in fighting Robotnik if it means making him feel miserable, but the moment Robotnik claims that he has given up his life of crime, Sonic respects it though clearly feeling that his life lost much of the momentum, before getting back on his feet and keeps a keen eye to protect Mobius from Robotnik's deceptive tricks.
Powers and Abilities[]
Just like in the video games, Sonic can run at extremely fast speeds, assuming he is wearing his specially designed Hi-tops(which in this case are what makes it so fast). While his top speed is unknown, he can run fast enough to reach the opposite side of Mobius in less than four minutes and forty-five seconds.
Sonic is capable of curling into a ball and performing a buzzsaw attack which can cut through most objects (similar to the spin dash) though there are various materials that are too hard for him to penetrate such as nuclear forged steel and dimondium laced metal. Likewise, he is also shown being able to swim in "The Little Merhog" whereas the canon Sonic is notoriously poor at swimming.
when sonic uses the atomic relativity shoes,he is able to go at light speed and time travel.

Trivia[]
- This incarnation of Sonic was largely based on his appearance seen on the Western box art designed by Greg James Martin of the original Sonic games differing from his Japanese design, though despite being largely the same as the Japanese one, changes such as include a mohawk-like single row of spines on his head as opposed to three rows, a two-spined single row down his back as opposed to two single-spine rows, and the lack of a tail. This design would be reused over into the other later Western Sonic cartoons like the Sonic the Hedgehog animated series and Sonic Underground, and adapted for the first eleven issues of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. White also reprised his role in the two other shows.
- This marks nearly the second time Sonic spoke, the first was in Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car that casted Takeshi Kusao, which was released one year before the series' pilot episode was produced that first casted Jaleel White as the character.
- Like Robotnik's PINGAS! line, his quote That's no good! etc. in the Sonic Says ending from Lovesick Sonic has become one of the most popular internet memes of all time since the late 2000s.
- AoStH Sonic has been compared to Adam West's Batman for similar traits they share like the moralistic messages and the wisecracking attitude put into their heroism.
- This version of Sonic is also one of the first two early depictions of Sonic's personality in animated television form, his SATAM counterpart was less comedic and more of a overconfident rebel put in a more serious, dark and grim setting in the same year that Sonic from AoStH has aired in 1993.
- Many of the famous levels and special stages he ran through in the games appear in the show.
- Like his other western Sonic counterparts, he hails from the planet Mobius which originated from the Early Sonic Canon. The setting of original Sonic the Hedgehog games where also said to take place on Mobius.
- Him known for donning a majority of disguises was later referenced by his Paramount counterpart, first where he dresses up with a cowboy hat, a red shirt, and sunglasses to hide his species in the Piston Pit, then in the second film where he dresses as an airport check security guard before he sends Tom and Maddie to Hawaii via one of his rings.
- In some scenes, his arms are incorrectly colored blue as apposed to tan, nodding his later Sega World Sydney, Boom and Movie counterparts who have blue arms instead of tan.
- While he is voiced by a male actor in most localizations of the show, in some, usually Asian ones, he is voiced by a female actor.
- When Sonic had a female voice actor as apposed to a male in Sonic's Schoolhouse and the Sonic in Sydney live shows, they were doing an impression similar to Jaleel Whites voice acting.
- His famous quotes such as I'm the essence of fast thinking! and We are up, over, and gone! were referenced by his aforementioned live show portrayal.
- In the rumored lost Japanese dub he is said to have been voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi.
- It was rumored that Jaleel White was also originally going to voice Classic Sonic in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but was scrapped. However, according to Jaleel White, he was not contacted to voice the character.
- This is because according to an interview with Aaron Webber, he claimed that if anyone were to voice Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations, it would be Jaleel White. Aaron also mentioned that he grew up with the classic Sonic cartoons like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and he thought Jaleel White did a fantastic job.
