“ | Gotta go fast! | „ |
~ Sonic the Hedgehog's catchphrase. |
Sonic the Hedgehog is a character in the toys-to-life video game LEGO Dimensions, and the titular main protagonist of the level "Sonic Dimensions", unlockable alongside him via his Level Pack. Like his original counterpart, he is a supersonic hedgehog fighting to save the world from Dr. Eggman and other threats.
He was voiced by Roger Craig Smith.
Biography[]
Past[]
It's implied by the in-game dialogue that Sonic's background is roughly the same as his main series counterpart's at least up until after the events of Sonic Generations. Overall, he fought Dr. Eggman for 25 years and has made many friends and enemies along the way. He once visited the Labyrinth Zone, which was a traumatic experience for him. Over the course of his adventures, he fought Eggman's Death Egg Robot at least three times. In 1999, he defeated Chaos. He once met a princess, but claims to not remember much of said incident.
LEGO Dimensions[]
Sonic and Tails scrambled to collect all seven Chaos Emeralds before Eggman could get them. After running through the Green Hill Zone, Sonic entered the Special Stage, collecting the final Emerald and returning to Tails' Workshop to tell him about it. He found out, however, that Eggman had taken over the workshop, seized the other six Emeralds, and was threatening to blow up Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Shadow and Big if Sonic didn't hand over the last one. Sonic distracted Eggman by complimenting his mustache and freed his friends, though Amy was still missing. Eggman's Keystone Device malfunctioned, opening a portal that sucked in everyone present and the Emeralds. Sonic had Tails stay behind while chasing after Eggman.
After defeating the doctor in Emerald Coast, Sonic acquired a Chaos Emerald and ended up on the Death Egg. There, Eggman had him fight his three robotic copies, before escaping again. After going through Metropolis and Marble Zone and getting two more Chaos Emerald, Sonic stole Eggman's Keystone Device and used it to locate all his friends except Amy. He left them in the vortex before venturing into the Labyrinth Zone for another Emerald, bringing the count to six in total. He returned to the vortex, where Tails informed him that Eggman had the final emerald with him. The two ventured back to the Death Egg, where Sonic fought and defeated the Death Egg Robot again.
After his robot got damaged, Eggman saw Chaos emerging and made a retreat. Sonic was left to fight the water creature, which proved tough without a Super form. Eggman refused to hand over the final Chaos Emerald, intending to seize the rest from Sonic once he'd get worn out, but Amy helped out by taking it from him and handing it over to Sonic. After turning Super Sonic, the hedgehog made quick work of the water beast. When Amy got sucked into space, Super Sonic opened a portal to save her. Eggman escaped by entering the same portal, and Sonic and Tails chased after him.
Personality[]
Like most versions of him, Sonic is an adventurous and snarky hero. He is perhaps even snarkier than most of his counterparts, as he goes beyond taunting his enemies and engages in self-deprecating humor on a few occasions. He cares greatly for his friends and does everything in his power to save them from danger. While he enjoys battling his enemies and is confident of his success, Sonic still knows his limits and will request backup when needed.
Trivia[]
- This is one of the few versions of Sonic to actually say the line "Gotta go fast".
- Since Sonic can't swim, he uses a life jacket when entering water. If the player makes him go fast enough, he'll run on water instead.
- If both he and Bart Simpson are on the Dimension Pad at the same time, he'll reference his cameo in the episode "Marge Be Not Proud", encouraging the boy to steal a video game.
- A LEGO version of Sonic stars in a number of commercials for LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets. a LEGO Sonic also appears in promotional events and DLC for games like Sonic Forces: Speed Battle and Sonic Superstars, but it's unknown if they are all supposed to be the same character.
