“ | Home is where your friends are, as they say, and that's Green Hill, where the best beaches, palm trees and chili dogs, are just the tip of the iceberg. We've saved this place a million times, from this doofus. And then there's Shadow. It's complicated, more on him later. The fact is, we never lose! ~ Sonic the Hedgehog’s voiceover. |
Sonic the Hedgehog is the titular main protagonist of the Netflix television series Sonic Prime, based on the franchise of the same name.
He is a blue, anthropomorphic hedgehog who possesses incredible speed, which he uses to defend the world from his nemesis, the evil Dr. Eggman.
He was voiced by Deven Mack, who also voiced Orbot, Cubot, and Chaos Sonic in the same series, as well as Chuck in Angry Birds: Summer Madness and Dimlit in Transformers: Botbots. In the Japanese version, he is voiced by Jun'ichi Kanemaru, who also voices his mainstream counterpart.
Appearance[]
Like his video game counterpart, Sonic is a slim anthropomorphic hedgehog with blue fur that covers most of his body, peach skin that covers his arms, muzzle and front torso, and green eyes. He has small, triangular ears on the top of his head, three long quills on the back of his head, two spines protruding from his back behind his shoulders, and a short tail. For attire, he wears red sneakers with a white strap and white tops folded into sock-like cuffs and gray soles, and white gloves with sock-like cuffs.
Because of Tails Nine's stabilizing invention, Sonic's attire varies. He currently wears sleek red sneakers with white tongues and white accents and glowing blue highlights. His gloves gain grey highlights and strap-like cuffs. In Boscage Maze, his shoes and gloves are green, themed after camouflage. In No Place, his shoes are yellow, and his gloves are brown, in The Grim, his shoes are silver. Finally in Ghost Hill, his shoes are gray with wireframe patterns.
Personality[]
While Sonic cares for his friends just as much as the main series Sonic, he can be a bit blind to the values that the original had, with a flashback indicating he didn't exactly know what friendship (something that the main series Sonic is always able to cheer on and encourage for comparison) was about when Amy and the others tried to gift him with the memories of their friendship. Additionally, a major conflict for this series is that Sonic has an inability to listen to his friend’s warnings and fears, and chooses to heroically but impulsively speed ahead instead. Though he does manage to realize and develop past this as he helps his friends' counterparts in the Boscage Maze reconcile.
Biography[]
Past[]
Sonic hangs out in Green Hill where he, alongside his friends Tails, Knuckles, Amy and sometimes Rouge, protect it from the villainous Dr Eggman. One day Sonic gets into a fight with Eggman in his Eggcrusher alongside Amy and Knuckles. However, during the fight Tails appears telling him it's a trap and Eggman isn't in the Eggcrusher. But Sonic doesn't listen to him and spin dashes Eggman right into the ground. When he looks inside the suit after destroying it, he finds out Tails was right and Eggman isn't inside. He then calls Eggman a chicken and declares another win. But he notices that Tails is upset and decides to see what's wrong.
He goes to Tails' Lab and apologizes to him for not listening. They then talk about why Eggman wasn't inside with Tails figuring out that Eggman tricked Sonic into attacking the Eggcrusher to create a blast that created a crack in the Green Hill Bedrock so he could obtain the Paradox Prism. Rouge then appears saying that Eggman must have used Sonic's power against him in order to get to the prism. She then tells Sonic to bring his team to the top of the Green Hill Loop-De-Loop to see what he's planning.
When they all arrive, they come up with a plan to investigate the Bedrock, but Sonic decides to instead go collect some rings first. But while collecting rings he runs into Shadow who he gets into a fight with while trying to talk about the blast Sonic made. However, he still doesn't listen and instead manages to distract Shadow by pretending that Eggman's behind him. He then traps him under a bunch of rock long enough to get to the Bedrock and join his friends to fight Eggman and his badnik horde. Mid-Fight he starts charging at Eggman when he sees he's about to get the Paradox Prism. However still not listening to his friends, he spin dashes into the prism, unknowingly shattering it and creating the Shatterverse, destroying Green Hill and reverting it to Ghost Hill, and trapping everyone in it excluding himself and Shadow(who telported into the void of the Shatterverse with the power of a Chaos Emereld he had on hand) as holograms who repeat the same thing over again.
Present[]
After Sonic shattered the prism, he gets launched into the void until he floats inside the New Yoke City gateway.
Powers and Abilities[]
Having spent years fighting and thwarting his nemesis, Dr. Eggman, Sonic's years of fighting have made a skilled and powerful fighting champion of peace after using his abilities to fight against injustice to keep the whole universe safe.
Sonic's greatest ability is his incredible superhuman speed, which allows him to run instantly at incredible supersonic speeds which is why he has been dubbed as "the fastest thing alive". Sonic can take his speed even further, by flexing up his legs at full potential to take off at turbo speeds, his speed also allows him to perform a move where he curls up into a powerful spinning ball to attack his enemies, which has be dubbed the Spin Attack. His speed can also allow him to perform incredible agility which allows him to jump high and leap to places and obstacles quicker then others. He even seems to see everything slow downed, to the point where lasers are slower than him.
After being given regulators from Nine, his gloves and shoes also adapt to the terrain of the shatterspace he's in. In Boscage Maze, his glove and shoes can sprout out claws that allow him to climb surfaces and be used as weapons, in No Place, his shoes act as hovercrafts that allow him to walk on water, and in The Grim, his shoes can create a hexagonal path that allow him to run in mid air and create a hexagon shield.
One of the most mysterious powers that he has gained after shattering the Paradox Prim is being able to travel between shatterspaces, something which can happen with or without needing to touch a Prism Shard. This later fixed Nine who upgrades Sonic's regulators so he can communicate with him and so that Sonic will not be sent to the void after touching a Prism Shard. For Sonic to travel shatterspaces, he must also be able to acumalate enough speed to open a small portal through whatever shatterspace he's in. This portal will send him into the void which houses the gateways to each shatterspace.

Trivia[]
- Sonic Prime is Deven Mack's third work within a TV series made by Netflix, all released on the same year.
- In some regions, it is stated in the show's description on Netflix that Sonic's middle name is Maurice. This is a reference to Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics in which Sonic's middle name is also Maurice.
- It was later stated that this was just a joke and not actually canon to the show.
- According to the show's executive producer Logan McPherson, it's considered canon to the games’ mainstream continuity; so that means that this version of Sonic is, defiantly, one and the same with his game counterpart.
- The title of the TV series, "Sonic Prime", may be a reference to Prime Sonic from the Archie Comics, who was the Sonic from the original universe (similar to this Sonic).
- Sonic, in this series, likes to greet people by hugging them, unlike most takes on the character, where he doesn't do such and instead opts for fist bumps and/or high-fives.
