Soshiro Hoshina is a major character in the science fantasy, action manga and anime series Kaiju No. 8. He is the Defence Force's Third Division vice captain and a member of the famous swordsman clan, the Hoshina Family. He is also the main protagonist of the spin-off manga series Kaiju No. 8: B-Side.
He is voiced by Kengo Kawanishi in Japanese and by Landon McDonald in English.
Appearance[]
Soshiro is a young man with dark purple hair in a bob-cut style arriving at his ears and a learn yet muscular build. Typically carrying a carefree expression, his eyes are mostly seen as closed. He is often seen in his standard defence force soldier uniform, either the black and dark olive battle suit with grey pads in battlegrounds or a black jacket in training sessions.
Personality[]
Soshiro is a courageous and quick-thinking man with remarkable fighting abilities. As the vice captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force, he is recognized as the Hoshina Family's ultimate incarnation, possessing incredible fighting skills, earning his title as the Third Division vice captain. Soshiro's swordsmanship has been extraordinary ever since his childhood, praised by both his father and brother. He is confident in his abilities to take on a daikaiju-level threat. Despite his impressive abilities, Soshiro has a complex relationship with his older brother, Soichiro, due to his behavior as a child. He outgrew his fear and can proudly admit that his brother is the greatest swordsman in their clan's entire history, but he feels guilty about their past and prevents reconnecting. Occasionally, Soshiro enjoys laughing at those who have draw his attentions in a pathetic way, like in the case of Kafka Hibino during the Defence Force exam, describing him as funny, therefore prompting him to let him pas the exam and let him join the Defence Force. This humor interest of him soon shifted to curiosity and suspicion due to his curiosity of the incident of the presence of a Kaiju during the exams and perceives that Kafka is someone special. When he later had a talk with Kafka directly for the first time, he expressed a bit of his somewhat envious side, telling him that he would never give him his spot beside Mina, knowing that Kafka and her have a special connection in contrast to other Defence Force members.
Abilities[]
- Master Swordsman: Soshiro comes from a long line of swordsmen and has honed his skills since childhood. He is highly proficient in sword fighting and has developed his own unique sword-slay techniques.
- Leadership: Being a vice-captain of the Defence Force, Soshiro is a capable leader who has demonstrated great leadership skills and the ability to strategize for his team's success in battle.
- Master Swordsman: Soshiro is proficient in using knives as a weapon, often using them as a secondary weapon in combat.
- Immense Reflexes: Soshiro was capable of fighting on pair against Kaiju No. 10, a magnitude of 8 kaiju who is capable of indirectly buildings and large areas with a mere flink of his fingers and punches at alarming speeds.
