Adnyeus (アドナイェウス, Adonayeusu), commonly known as the Soul King (霊王, Reiō), is the overarching protagonist of the Bleach franchise. He is the king of the Soul Society, as well as its creator of it, along with the World of the Living and Hueco Mundo.
His very existence keeps all three worlds in balance from decline and due to this, the Royal Guard (also known as the Zero Division) are tasked with protecting him at all times. He is also the father of the Quincy King Yhwach.
Personality[]
Adnyeus remains to be a very enigmatic being that very little know of, including the Royal Guard themselves, but he is believed to have once been a benevolent being that cares a great deal for those that come from his world. As the creator of the three worlds, he is tasked with ensuring no harm is done for them to collapse.
Despite this, he was feared by those that would later become the founders of Soul Society's Five Great Noble families, leading him to being betrayed and mutilated into a limbless corpse. Interestingly enough, however, Adnyeus allowed this to happen, despite knowing exactly what awaited for him. Why this was the case is something that not even Ichibē Hyōsube knows of.
Powers and Abilities[]
- The Almighty: Adnyeus, like his son Yhwach possess The Almighty but to an even greater degree as Yhwach claims, Adnyeus likely foresaw his death, the Quincy battles eons ago. According to Yhwach he can see all the three realms at the same time.
- Cosmic Keystone: Adnyeus is the linchpin of all the three realms, without him, the three realms will collapse and the concept of "life" and "death" will disappear from existence.
- Immense Spiritual Power: Adnyeus Spiritual Power is so great that even someone like Yhwach couldn't completely absorb the full power of the Soul King into himself and even absorbing his power, Yhwach needed an extended amount of period and time to assimilate with the Soul King, and even after he absorbed Adnyeus, Yhwach says this is what it means to be overflowing with power.
- Precognitive Immunity: According to Yhwach Adnyeus and his body parts are immune to the powers of The Almighty as seen in the case with the right arm. and the left arm can seal the abilities of The Almighty.
- Triplet World: Eons ago, Adnyeus used this ability to split the primordial world into the three realms, The World of the Living, Hueco Mundo and the Soul Society.
- Stagnation Governance: Adnyeus right arm; Mimihagi governs Stagnation and stillness, the stopping of development, growth, progress, and change. It could prevent anything that tries to change or develop from happening.
- Evolution Governance: Adnyeus left arm; Pernida Parnkgjas governs Evolution and progress and advancement, the enhancement of oneself and others via accelerated evolution.
- Miracle Manifestation: Adnyeus heart; Gerard Valkyrie manifests "miracles" by giving form to the thoughts, feelings, and desires of the user and those around him.
Additionally all of the Fullbringers possess a fragment of Adnyeus parts and Aura Michibane possess the Saketsu (Chain of Fate) of the Soul King. Rangiku Matsumoto also housed a nail of Adnyeus until it was taken from her by Souske Aizen to feed his incomplete Hogyoku.
Trivia[]
- When the Soul King made his initial debut in Chapter 519 of the manga, he appears to have all of his limbs intact.
- It is heavily implied in the light novel, Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, that Gremmy Thoumeaux may in fact be another missing piece of the Soul King, presumably his brain.
- The Soul King went unnamed in both the manga and the light novels. It wasn't until the 394th episode of the anime that his real name would be revealed to be Adnyeus.
- His name was first teased during Yhwach Auswählen chant with many fans speculating that it may be the Soul King name.
- His true name, Adnyeus, fits into the Religious and Mythological Theme Naming - pertaining to the names of the Abrahamic God he and his son Yhwach share. If Yhwach is derived from YHVH (pronounced Yah-Weh), then Adnyeus is derived from the Orthodox Hebrew name Adonai, meaning "The Lord And Master". Befitting of the Physical God that sacrificed himself and split the primordial chaos into three orderly realms.
