Space Racer is a supporting character in the Image Comics series Invincible.

He is an officer allied with the Coalition of Planets best known for wielding an indestructible gun that can obliterate anything including Viltrumites in one shot and riding a hoverbike in space dubbing him his name.

Biography[]

Story[]

Nolan Grayson wrote a book called The Man with the Invincible Gun which was about Space Racer and his potent weapon. He wrote that the origins or where he obtained the gun were unknown. Information of the weapon he wrote was gathered from thousands of sources. The Infinity Ray fired a wave of energy that was unstoppable and they could be still be seen racing through the cosmos, obliterating anything it came to contact with like planets, ships, and stars and wrote it was only a theory and nobody really got close enough to study the ray themselves.

Nolan then wrote he had a mission where he'd hunt him and figure out if the stories of the Infinity Ray were true and arrest him if so to face trial for crimes against the empire. Space Racer's origins Nolan wrote were unknown but stories of him stretched across the twelve galaxies and he was located in two places at once making this an uneasy task for Nolan but he wouldn't dare fail the Viltrumites. He also wrote that he studied the similarities and common elements and in some point in time the Space Racer's stories were nothing but the truth and it took him 15 years to know it. His first clue came up when a former subordinate of Space Racer willingly agreed to give him information of his whereabouts.

Entrapment and Freedom[]

Nolan and Allen the Alien find Space Racer's Infinity Ray lying on the ground in a cave ending their search. Nolan attempted to pick it up but the weapon moved into a pile of rocks which Space Racer himself was under showing he could go nearly hundreds of years without food or water. Because Nolan was from Viltrum, Space Racer told him to give him one reason why he shouldn't shoot him on the spot.

Nolan tells him to hold his threats as he and Allen fight him for the ray. During the struggle, Space Racer fired his weapon which caused a chain reaction and alerted Allen and Nolan to escape. Space Racer managed to get out of Nolan's hold and held him at gunpoint. Nolan tried to get him to listen so Space Racer asked what should be heard from a viltrumite like him. Nolan explained he wanted to free him and not fight him but Space Racer believed he only came to retrieve his weapon thinking he himself long ago perished. Allen then stepped in and added that he was reformed and he was allied with the Coalition of Planets to put together an offensive towards the Viltrum Empire. Nolan agreed with Allen's explanation and apologized for what he put him through in the past. Allen then said to accompany them to the Coalition's headquarters to see for himself that they were indeed fighting against the Viltrumites. He even said they could provide him with whatever needs. Space Racer asked if there was food and Allen reached for his pocket and offered him something called kanslok but Space Racer passed off it and agreed to accompany them but kept his eyes and weapon pointed to Nolan and threatened him with death should he cross him.

At the HQ, Thaedus, the leader of the Coalition, told Nolan and Allen Space Racer was still cautious but optimistic of working with them. His medical specialists examined him to be sure he was in good physical shape and that his metabolism was astounding. Thaedus said he would be a huge aspect to them and congratulated Nolan and Allen in finding him.

Viltrumite War[]

Space Racer is now an officer for the Coalition.

He stood ready to finish off the Viltrumites with Invincible, Kid Omni-Man, and Battle Beast being new allies. Space Racer joined the battle apologizing that it was a challenge to place the restraints on the Rognarrs. He fired the Infinity Ray killing one of the Viltrumites standing in the beam's direction and letting the Rognarrs in battle. Thragg, Grand Regent of the Viltrumites, punched Space Racer off his bike but he managed to get himself back on to it. He fired another beam at a Viltrumite killing it. Space Racer followed Thaedus, Nolan, and Invincible aiding them in blowing up the planet Viltrum.

Space Racer killed a third Viltrumite and helped Allen out of the mass of Viltrumites jumping him. Allen told him they couldn't leave so Space Racer explained that the destruction of Viltrum was just luck but they were now outnumbered. He said it was supposed to be a full on assault and they were really supposed to position themselves on Viltrum and wait for him with the Ragnar and also told him they had to retreat or they die as he shot a fourth Viltrumite. Allen asked about Nolan and Mark but Space Racer told him they couldn't help and that they had to get help and that their wisest decision was to retreat. The Viltrumites on their side he said would have to fend for themselves.

Thragg's Exile[]

Space Racer landed on a planet Battle Beast was located on convincing him to leave the planet and getting him to accompany him back to Talescria. Space Racer watched Battle Beast find a mate in Thresha, an inhabitant of the planet

While Battle Beast and Thresha were mating, Space Racer called to inform him that Thragg was on Thraxa, the planet he orbited.

Space Racer and Allen watched Thragg and Battle Beast clash for days. Allen asked if he could get closer to them which Space Racer couldn't do as the two were moving at rapid rates in an erratic pattern. Space Racer truthfully said he couldn't figure out if Battle Beast was winning the fight and that he could've been seconds away from killing the Viltrumite at all costs and was worried his interference would be detrimental.

Space Racer and Thresha had seen Thragg kill Battle Beast. A vengeful Thresha told Space Racer to kill him and the Thraxans but he said there were too many and they had to escape or they would die. Thresha was angered and scratched Space Racer's arm telling him she wanted to die as well to be with Battle Beast leaving Space Racer no choice but to punch her apologizing. Both Space Racer and Thresha receive medical attention and Thresha breaks out in fury. Space Racer yelled for her to stop which she did as they hug each other and mourn for Battle Beast.

Space Racer tried to shoot down Thragg but the Viltrumite evaded all three of the beams from the Infinity Ray. It's unknown how he escaped with his life.

Final Battle[]

Space Racer attends the meeting made by Nolan and Allen with Thresha, Invincible, and Atom Eve.

Space Racer called Allen that he found the location of one of Thragg's Viltrumite-Thraxan hybrid sons. He told him he could track his beacon to monitor his trajectory as he followed the unnamed son. He followed him to the central base and notified Allen on it. He blew up some buildings with the Infinity Ray.

Space Racer is seen in the background shooting at Thragg's army. He shoots one of Thragg's daughters later in battle. Later in the issue, he was monitoring and told everyone that their remaining forces joined the fleet.

Space Racer and everyone else were prepared for the final battle. They fly out to space and the battle starts. Space Racer started shooting two of Thragg's children and then another one holding tight to Thresha’s arm while she fought a Ragnar.

Space Racer and Thresha both fall off the Hexbike after it's broken in two. Thresha thought that without it they were vulnerable until Space Racer made another one with his mind (Thresha grew feelings for him when he did that). The duo put down two more of Thragg's children. When Thragg's children surrendered after he made it clear as day he did not care for them, Allen, Space Racer, and Thresha are about to head inside until they realized Invincible and Thragg were missing.

500 years later, Space Racer lastly helped out the Viltrumites and Thragg's children in a battle who are now under Mark's leadership.
