Sparky is a supporting character in Disney's Planes movies. He made his debut in the Mater's Tall Tales short "Air Mater".

Biography[]

Air Mater[]

Mater tells Lightning a tale about how he got to a town for planes called Propwash Junction. Mater was visiting Skipper who summoned Sparky to get Mater ready to train for flying. He later joins Skipper in watching Mater taking part in the stunts of the Falcon Hawks.

Planes[]

Sparky first appears in the film with Chug filling up a fuel tank for him before departing. He later accompanies Skipper when the latter is giving a lecture to Dusty on how much of a risk it is for a cropduster like Dusty.

Later, Sparky provides Skipper binocculars so he can watch as he (Skipper) trains Dusty for the upcoming race. When Skipper scolds Dusty on a mishap over this training excersize due to his fear of heights, he asks Sparky to push him back to his hangar before Dusty admits his ear of heights. Sparky also brought up an incident where a group of other planes had trouble with high altitude. Sparky soon assists Skipper in teaching Dusty in turning low and sloppy into low and fast. Later, Sparky watches as Chug shows off his set of Dusty Crophopper merchandise. Later, Sparky is present when Dusty communicates with Chug when he was resting out at a hut when exposed to a snowy area in Iceland and soon watches Dusty save Bulldog from crashing when the latter gets blinded by an oil leak from his tank.

Sparky soon watches Skipper make an attempt at flying only for it to malfunction. Sparky also learns later that Dusty no longer has his sprayer and listens to Skipper give the cropduster advice when he heads for the Himalayas. Sparky was also present when Chug makes his announcement about selling out on Dusty merch to its namesake. Later, when Chug is loading cargo onto a plane for travel, Sparky listens when Dusty finds out Skipper flew just one mission.

Following Dust's failed attempt at getting above the storm whil trying to get back to the mainland, Sparky watches as the unconscious plane is taken to the hanger for repairs. Skipper then asks Sparky to leave so he and Dusty can be alone to know the truth about the former's deceased squadron members. Later, before a repaired Dusty is ready to race, Sparky asks Skipper if he wanted to go, but his superior turns this out.

Sparky soon watches Dusty beat Ripslinger in the race with the latter getting covered with toilet sludge. Sparky subsequently congatuates Dusty like with everyone else present.

Planes: Fire & Rescue[]

Sparky reads a newspaper while Dusty is congratuated by the folks in Propwash Junction while the corn festival is coming up. Following a malfunction of Dusty's gearbox, Sparky made some fixing to him before Dottie tells the cropduster that his gearbox was failing. Later, Chug and Sparky arrive to tell Dusty that they located a new gearbox for him. After Dusty alerts the population of a fire he started on accident, Sparky helps Mayday get setup to stop the fire, but this attempt fails as Mayday's equipment as discovered to be outdated and falling apart despite Sparky's efforts. Sparky then aids in helping topple the water tower in order to extinguish the fire.

The next day, Ryker arrives to close down Propwash Junction due to this violation of safety standards. Sparky also was present at a meeting about the need to get another firefighting vehicle in order to re-open Propwash Junction. Later, after Dusty witnessed the Piston Peak's air division of the firefighting force in action and undertook several training sessions, Dusty heard from the people at Propwash, including Sparky, about news on a new gearbox beign brought for Dusty as well as MAyday being in the process of being refurbished.

After Dusty's visit to the Fusel-Lodge, Sparky and the folks at Propwash call Dusty when it turned out it was mislabled and no matter where they called, they could not find the gearbox Dusty needed. After Dusty's gearbox was rebuilt by Maru following everyone managing to escape the fire, he returns to see Chug as the corn colonel with Sparky as his "Private Niblet" during the grand reopening of Propwash Junction and is present at a show during the corn festival featuring Dusty and the Piston Peak air attack team.
