~ Spawn to Jason Wynn. |
Al Simmons, also known as Spawn, is the main protagonist of the 1997 superhero action film of the same name, based on the Image Comics character of the same name by Todd McFarlane.
Like in the comics, he is a gifted officer of the United States Marine Corps who was cursed into the life of a Hellspawn after his deal into to see his wife Wanda Blake one last time and became a costumed warrior fighting against the forces of Hell and Heaven in order to protect the human world from the apocalyptic wars.
He was portrayed by Michael Jay White.
History[]
Al Simmons was a former CIA agent who served Jason Wynn and was married to Wanda. He was best friends with Terry Fitzgerald and was the biological father of Cyan. As Al grew a conscious and wanted to retire with Wanda, Wynn was making a deal with Violator to kill Al and sell him into Malebolgia's service. With Jessica Priest's help, Al was burned alive and died, where he was sent to Hell for his murder of people. There, he meets Malebolgia, who offers him a deal to become a hellspawn in order to see Wanda again and kill Jason Wynn in revenge. Al agrees and becomes the undead anti-heroic superhero "Spawn", returning into the world of the living with Violator serving as his mentor and guide. Learning that his wife has remarried Terry and that he was dead for 5 years, Al was heartbroken and angered by this revelation. This would later result in Spawn getting into a fight with Violator then track down Wynn and Jessica, successfully killing the latter. He would also meet Cogliostro, who mentors him on how to use his newfound hellspawn powers and fight against Malebolgia.
