The Special Investigations squad, is a division of Victoria Police established to investigate high-priority cases, which the Undercover unit, the protagonists of Stingers, are a sub-division of later in the series.
The Special Investigations squad was formed in season six, following the assessment into the viability of the Undercover unit, which the Police Commissioner decides to retain, albeit now permutated into the new squad led by Luke Harris, while the remaining members of the Undercover unit (Angie Piper, Peter Church and Danni Mayo) join the new squad simultaneously, before later being joined by new recruit Christina Dichiera, and much later by Leo Flynn, while the consistent non-Undercover members of the unit included ex-Armed Robbery squad commander Brian Gray and receptionist Sophie Novak.
