Hero Overview

With great power, there must also come great responsibility.
~ Spider-Man's personal creed.
Whether a law is right or wrong, moral or immoral, is an idea, a personal philosophy... but it always seems that fights over ideas skip over the barrier into the real world and become battles of real violence.
~ Spider-Man on the law.

Spider-Man, also known by his real name Peter Benjamin Parker, is the titular protagonist of the Spider-Man comic series. He is a superhero who was created by the late Stan Lee and the late Steve Ditko for Marvel Comics.

Spider-Man is one of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history and has appeared in comics, cartoons, films and video games. The character was first portrayed in live-action by Danny Seagren in Spidey Super Stories, a skit which ran from 1974 to 1977. In the films, Spider-Man has been portrayed by actors Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man is played by Tom Holland. He was voiced by Chris Pine and Jake Johnson in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Reeve Carney starred originally as Spider-Man in the 2010 Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Spider-Man has been well received as a superhero and comic book character, and he is one of the most iconic comic book characters of all time.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • Human-Spider Hybrid Physiology: After being bitten by the radioactive spider, Spider-Man has extraordinary arachnid powers and capabilities which makes him amazing. His powers include:
    • Spider-Sense: Being his most important superpower, When danger is present, Peter feels a buzzing sensation in his skull as a sort of an early warning detection system, allowing him to react automatically and casually. His spider-sense offers a psychological awareness of his surroundings, such as dodging frontal enemy attacks, using it as a radar to act, fight and navigate while blind, using the sensory focus on it, and it alone to find and track his targets, and any form of sneak and surprise attacks are useless against him, and in conjunction with his reflexes, allows him to instinctively dodge or counter all attacks, it also manifests itself if his secret identity is about to be compromised before it is, it is also effective even if he is drunk, blindfolded, asleep, or even stunned, this power is incorporated in his fighting style, making him an almost impossible opponent for any combatant to defeat, Peter can choose to ignore it through intense concentration, though it gets difficult as the more threatening the danger is, or it can lose some effectiveness if he is exhausted or distracted. The spider-sense is also completely passive and endlessly uncontrollable.
      • Superhuman Senses: Spider-Man's senses are more greatly developed than normal humans; for example, his vision improved from needing glasses to perfect eyesight in a matter of hours, he also has perfect aim, as his webs rarely miss their targets, even when he's not looking or blinded.
    • Superhuman Strength: Possessing the proportionate strength of a spider, Spider-Man is far stronger than ordinary humans; for example, he can effortlessly press lift to 10 tons. Spider-Man's strength lets him effortlessly lift and throw automobiles and most standard heavy objects, he is so strong that he can send normal humans flying several feet away with a single punch or kick and can break a door open with just a single punch or kick, he must always pull his punches and kicks so he doesn't, unless fighting someone the same power status as him or greater, to avoid fatalities, Otherwise, his blows would be instantly lethal, he was able to overpower The Scorpion and The Rhino, able to hurt Venom and Carnage, and punch and kick through The Lizard's thick hard scaly skin, He can easily overpower normal humans, destroy everyday items with one strike such as his alarm clock, break apart guns, and lifted tanks, supported fallen multi-story buildings and freed himself from under tons of rubble, swing at high velocities on a rope or web and shattered steel chains by just flexing his muscles.
    • Superhuman Stamina Spider-Man has much more stamina than normal humans; for example, he can perform physically active without getting tired.
    • Superhuman Endurance: Spider-Man has much more endurance than normal humans; for example, he can endure a great deal more than normal humans without any signs of pain or fatigue.
    • Superhuman Speed: Possessing the proportionate speed of a spider, Spider-Man is much faster than normal humans; for example, his reflexes are faster than an average human by about the factor of 40 (he is always able to dodge bullets, even at point-blank) and are capable of running and moving at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete, With his quick reflexes, it also helps him in both hand-to-hand combat and shooting webs, though the exact extent of this speed has yet to be determined, he was able to run more than fast enough to keep up with a car on a highway, he is capable of dodging bullets and lightning, even at point-blank range. Spider-Man moves faster than the eye can see, even appearing, disappearing, and reappearing as a blur.
    • Superhuman Agility: Possessing the proportionate agility of a spider, Spider-Man is far more agile than normal humans; for example, His equilibrium, dexterity, and flexibility are all enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. He is 25 times more agile than that of any normal human being. Spider-Man is extraordinarily limber and his tendons and connective tissues are twice as elastic as the most dexterous human being. He has the combined balance and acrobatic prowess of the 95 Olympic-level acrobats. He can highly leap a distance of a width of a New York City Street and highly jump up to 5 stories even without a running start. He can also perform any complicated sequence of gymnastic stunts such as flips, rolls, spins, cartwheels, contortions, somersaults, and springs with ease. Spider-Man is also amazingly adaptive at dodging projectile attacks, even bullets fired from multiple shooters at once.
    • Superhuman Equilibrium: Spider-Man possesses the ability to achieve a state of perfect equilibrium in any position imaginable. He seems able to adjust his position by instinct, which enables him to balance himself on any object, no matter how small or narrow. He has developed a unique fighting style that has made full use of his agility, strength, and equilibrium.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Spider-Man's reflexes are much faster than normal humans; for example, he can dodge or counter any attack, including gunfire, even at point-blank range. Spider-Man's Spider-Sense also greatly further amplifies his superhuman reflexes because he can preempt danger before it happens.
    • Accelerated Healing Factor: Peter's superhuman metabolism allows him to rapidly heal faster, more extensively, and efficiently than normal humans; for example, he no longer needs his glasses to see after the spider's bite. He has managed to heal broken bones which that would have taken months to heal in less than a week, recover from intensive bleeding in a few hours even by using first aid, heal bruises and first-degree burns in minutes, and completely heal from being temporarily blinded by a device during a battle with a villain called the Masked Marauder in 12 hours, and after about 2 hours, his eyesight was perfect, albeit sensitive for about an hour after. He is also more resistant to diseases, illnesses, sicknesses, drugs, poisons, toxins, etc, and any effect produce by them would rapidly wear off much quicker than any normal human being and retain his athletic physique with minimal exercise. It is unknown if his healing is powerful enough to affect his aging yet or it ever will.
    • Wall-Crawling: Peter can manipulate inter-atomic interaction between atoms to create molecular bonds to stick to any surface, no matter how rough or slippery. This ability appears to be consciously used and is so far limited to Spider-Man's body, usually concentrated in his hands and feet (but he has also used his back to stick to walls as well), and another object, with an upper limit of several tons per finger.
    • Superhuman Durability: His overall body is generally tougher, stronger, and more durable than any normal human being, as such he has survived things that would outright kill any non-superpowered human. These include, but aren't limited to, electrocution, smash through brick walls, incendiary grenades, demolition explosives, pipe bombs, and falls from hundreds of feet. Note that he survives all of this with minor to no physical injuries and just gets back up only slightly disoriented. In one incident he survives a single hit from the Hulk (whose punches are strong enough to pulverize tanks and helicopters), though he stated he couldn't survive more than one hit. Spider-Man has also weathered blows from such superhuman adversaries as Venom, Carnage, the Lizard, Rhino, Sandman, Scorpion, and even the Juggernaut. His durability isn't powerful enough to shrug off sharp blades, such as a knife or bullets, and strong enough blows that, while not necessarily lethal, can still knock him out.

Abilities

  • Indomitable Will: Spider-Man has a strong force of will, completely free of evil and temptation, he is incapable of doing anything evil or unjust. He has struggled to balance his life as a student and his superhero duties.
  • Gifted Intellect: Possessing a keen scientific mind that is gifted, Peter displays an uncanny affinity for science, such as biochemistry, forensics, and physics, as well as he is skilled in mathematics, mechanics, and technology. He is so intelligent, that he perfected his father's webbing formula and to construct working web-shooters and tracking devices, he can understand and solve any complex problems and is also an amazingly skilled tactician, inventor, engineer, and detective as he is capable of solving mysteries, crimes, and cases. He is also capable of making incredibly annoying jokes which irritate both his allies and enemies.
    • Science Major: He is a brilliant individual, with exceptional skill in every field of science, and is an excellent inventor. He is an accomplished chemist and physicist as well as expertise in biology, engineering, and mechanics. He possesses enough competency in this field to invent his trademark web-shooters.
  • Skilled Photographer: Peter is a very skilled photographer and has worked for the Daily Bugle and the Front Line as a photographer.
  • Master Acrobat: Due to the superhuman physical abilities, Peter surpasses normal acrobats and can perform somersaults, flips, spins, cartwheels, etc, and uses these to dodge or counter any attack, such as gunfire, even in the air.
  • Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Thanks to Peter's amazing superhuman spider physiology, acrobatic powers, and spider-sense, he is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant using a fighting style derived from his spider-like abilities, he made his street style that could rival virtually any combatant out of sheer volatility to standard fighting techniques (e.g. webbing, wall-crawling, super reflexes, super speed, super agility, super strength to lift heavy objects, etc.) Using a mixture of his superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, equilibrium, leaping, jumping, Spider-Sense, intelligence, and web-shooters, Peter can utilize a devastating acrobatic fighting style that makes him a dangerous opponent and allowed him to easily take down thugs, cops (it be regular officers or SWAT officers), super villains and even superiorly skilled fighters, such as Daredevil, The Punisher, and Captain America.
  • Web-Slinging: Peter uses his web-shooters to travel by swinging on web-lines. Combined with his spider abilities, he can move at amazing speeds throughout the urban chasms of Manhattan. It is unknown how fast but its fast enough to keep up with trains and cars on the road (and depending on traffic can move faster than them).

Weapons

Web shooter

A detailed look into one of the webheads webshooters

Web-Shooters: Spider-Man's only weapon. The web-shooters are high-pressured and speeded devices that shoot out web-fluid that in contact with air, creates a super-strong thread that is tougher than Kevlar, more elastic than rubber, and 5 times stronger than high-tensile steel, and can usually contain anyone (even these who have superhuman strength or are extremely heavy). The Web-Shooters can shoot a thread of web several hundred meters in a straight line (can have a longer range if a factor in arching). They are made of high-density plastics and have multiple rotating cartridges that are filled with enough web-fluid for him to use for several days before having to refill them (he usually carries spare cartridges in his belt). Spider-Man can also use it to create nets, a shield, a giant web, a cocoon, or just a wide sticky spray. The webbing is last for 1–3 hours before it evaporates. The webbing itself is shear-thinning, meaning that while it is tough and strong it can be cut rather easily. Also because the Web-Shooters originally needed air to form the web, they were not able to work in a vacuum and were less effective in a little or no air environment such as space, or underwater until Peter improved them. Having a genius-intellect he can modify his webbings to give it special properties, such as making acid webbing or electromagnetic webbing however these are expensive and are only used in special situations.

Spider-Tracers: Thanks to his genius-level intellect Spider-Man has been able to create spider-sized tracking devices which he uses to follow criminals to be dealt with later or to track a fleeing opponent. The Spider-Tracer is also unique in that they emit a radio signal which Spider-Man's Spider-Sense can detect, within an 8-mile radius.

Costumes

Classic Red-and-Blue: This is the traditional suit that Spider-Man has used throughout his career and while he has worn several other suits, he always finds himself returning to wearing this costume. It is made from a skintight cloth, most likely Spandex or similar. The costume is mostly blue with red gloves, boots, mid-section, and a mask. Peter designed a web pattern that covers the red portions of the suit, starting at the mask. The suit also has a black spider in the center of the chest and a larger red spider on the back, both of different designs. The mask has plastic lenses with chrome covering that allows Peter to see out, without letting others see in. The lenses also protect Peter's eyes from dust particles and the glare of the sun while he is swinging through the city. Also, the mask helps to conceal Peter's identity by muffling his voice, thus making it unrecognizable to others. He also wears a twin set of web-shooters on his wrists under the gloves. A web cartridge belt is also worn under the suit, which has a spider-signal on the buckle. Originally the suit had webbing like material under the arms that Peter affectionately called "Web-pits" though they soon vanished from the costume and would appear off and on over the years when the series changed artists. The suit also contains a special ear-piece that protects Spider-Man from the effects of Hobgoblin's sonic attack and the lenses were updated to protect himself from Iguana's hypnotic stare.

Symbiote Suit/Black Suit: During the Secret Wars, Spider-Man's costume was torn during a battle and he tried to use what he thought was a fabric repair machine to fix but unknowingly used a ma

chine that was a prison that contained an alien symbiote, which formed on Spider-Man a near completely black suit that had a white spider on his chest that connected via his sides to a spider on his back with white patches on the back of his hands. The symbiote suit could respond to his thoughts, change its appearance, and create a seemingly unlimited amount of organic webbing.

However, after wearing the suit for some time, he began to feel unusually tired and was unaware that when he was sleeping that the symbiote would control his body and go out to fight crime for several hours every night. Peter eventually got around to deciding to have the suit examined and consulted his friend Reed Richards who discovered that the suit was an alien creature and that attempting to bond to him and had to be forcefully removed from Peter with the aid of Mr. Fantastic and the Human Torch using sound waves and fire before locking it in a protective case though it would eventually escape and hung itself in Peter's Closet, disguised as one of his red and blue costumes. When preparing to go out as Spider-Man, Peter grabbed the symbiote and it reattached itself to him and attempted to force a bond between them which ended with Peter using Church Bells to force the symbiote to separate from him.

His then-girlfriend the Black Cat took it upon herself to make identical copies made of cloth for him to utilize as she found his traditional costume unexciting and while at first resistant he was forced to utilize them when the last of his costumes was destroyed. He would eventually destroy the Black Suit Replicas at the urging of his wife Mary Jane after Venom attacked her, leaving her with a fear of the costume. Despite this, he would keep one replica of the suit for emergencies only and would go on to wear it during the darker moments

The Third Model was designed to specifically battle the newest incarnation of the Sinister Six, possessing defensive measures designed specifically for each member. It was keyed to detect the Chameleon's specific heartbeat to see through his disguises, Cyber Control tech to attempt to disable Octopuses control of his arms, Holographic Visor to see through Mysterio's illusions, the ability to take control of Sandman's sand from him, Electro-Proof to repel Electro, and reinforced to withstand Rhino's brute force.

The Fourth Spider-Armor

The Fourth model was created using resources from Parker Industries and instead of resembling armor like the others it better resembles a newer version of his classic costume and was made of a lightweight metallic liquid nanotechnology. This suit contained several useful features such as built-in web-shooters able to access several different webbing, spider-drones, temperature control, sensors and heads up display, built-in web-ware, a built-in emergency beacon, stealth and camouflage capabilities, and enhanced physical strength and durability. He used this suit until it was shredded by the Superior Octopus using a modified EMP that completely shredded the costume but fortunately Peter had a backup plan in the form of wearing his classic costume underneath the model.

The original Superior Costume

Superior Costumes When Otto Octavius took over Peter Parker's body, he decided to take over Peter's role as Spider-Man. As such, he took a future costume Peter had been working on and redesigned it to be more fearsome and aggressive in appearance, switching the blue to black and altering the design of the back spider logo, belt, gloves, boots and mask, and a more goggle-like design for the mask lenses. The suit was modified to have Carbonadium plating on the back of the mask to protect him from any potential mind-swap, retractable talons on his hands and feet that were capable of injecting opponents with nano spider-tracers with GPS and listening capabilities, enhanced lenses with HUD and tracking abilities added to the lenses of his mask,

and had turned the spider-symbol into a button used to activate traps he had set up. Otto would soon redesign the costume again into a more personal design, adding more black to the design, making the spider larger, adding wrist devices, and changes the mask lenses to black. This suit had the same features as the first but also included 4 mechanical spider-arms, larger talons, special wrist devices capable of exchanging calls, and activating nano tracers as well as Flamethrowers and sonic webbing, and finally featured an AI.

Peter Parker (Earth-616) from Spider-Man Deadpool Vol 1 17 001

The Third Superior Costume

When Peter reclaimed his body from Otto, he put aside the Superior Costumes in favor of his classic Costume though would keep replicas of both versions of the suit in his Private Lab. Later on, after being temporarily mentally demoralized by a villain, Peter would redesign the Second Superior Costume to better resemble his original with white lenses and gloves and boots as well as give it more lethal weaponry in the form of additional claws to the spider-arms which could now shoot lasers, web-wings under the arms, Separate cannons capable of more focused fire, and Nerve Hacking Technology capable of stimulating the nervous system.

Identity Crisis Costumes When Spider-Man was framed by for the murder of a small-time crook using "web fluid" to fill his lungs. Norman Osborn also "provoked" Spider-Man into attacking him on tape, leaving Spider-Man with a five-million-dollar reward posted for his capture and unable to even go out on patrols without the police or even normal people attempting to shoot him. To clear his name and find the true killer, Spider-Man created four new costumed identities in the form of the heroes Hornet and Prodigy and the villains Dusk and Ricochet.

The Ricochet suit showcased Peter's acrobatic abilities and stored bouncing disks which Peter could use as weapons. The Hornet identity had a battle armor that provided additional protection and utilized a jet pack designed by Hobie Brown, as well as sedative darts once used by Ben Reilly. The Dusk identity utilized a suit Spider-Man had obtained in the Negative Zone that had been only used by the greatest of warriors fighting for Freedom from Oppressors and allowed Peter to blend into the shadows and fly. The Prodigy identity consisted of gold armor and a bulletproof vest that made Peter appear even stronger. Because his face was partially exposed Peter had to use makeup and a fake nose to fool people.

Iron Spider Armor During the events of the first Superhuman Civil War, Peter received a new Red and Gold costume for Peter that held mostly the same tech as his Iron Man suit though with notable differences to suit Peter's Spider powers. It was made with advanced protein-scale nano-technology and exotic materials handling, LEP skin display, impact sensing armor integrated life support ant all-spectrum communications powered by a hybrid optoelectronic computer and using superconducting, high-performance plastic throughout. It possessed limited gliding capabilities and possibly most notably of all it had three retractable pseudo-arms, named waldoes, though they weren't ideal for fighting. After beginning to have doubts about supporting the act, Peter secretly examined the suit and discovered a hidden override that would disable Peter which Peter worked around by installing his override of Stark's override which helped saved his life when he chose to support the anti-registration. During his escape, the suit was badly damaged and so Peter returned to his usual costume though Stark was revealed to both have a back-up suit in storage as well as modified replica's that would be utilized by the MVP clones known as the Scarlet Spiders.
