Peter Parker's alter-ego, the Amazing Spider-Man. Spidey's wallcrawling and webslinging, combined with his super strength and amazing agility, make old Web Head one of the most spectacular superheroes around.
~ Description from Stan Lee in the first game.

Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man is the titular protagonist of the PlayStation Spider-Man games.

He was voiced by Rino Romano, who also voiced Spider-Man in the Spider-Man Unlimited television series and Batman in The Batman.

Biography[]

First Game[]

It can be assumed that this version of Spider-Man shares a relatively identical origin with his mainstream version. Having let a robber escape, leading to Uncle Ben's death. He then became Spider-Man. He seemingly defeated the Green Goblin at one point as an Easter Egg can be found where Goblin's bombs are stashed. Peter Parker at a Science Exposition hosted by the the supposedly reformed Dr. Otto Octavius (aka Dr. Octopus). An imposter of his alter-ego suddenly appears on stage, stealing the device that Octavius was showing to the audience as well as destroying the camera of Peter's reporter rival Eddie Brook, which triggers off his transformation into Venom (Spider-Man's Symbiote arch-rival and who also knows his true identity), who vows revenge. Spider-Man is now a wanted criminal and a strange fog is covering the whole city of New York.

After some survival tips from Black Cat and stopping a bank robbery led by a gang known as the Jade Syndicate, Spidey learns that his boss at the Daily Bugle J. Jonah Jameson is being attacked by Scorpion and sets off to come to his rescue. After stopping Scorpion, instead of thanking Spidey, Jameson calls onto the police to capture him. After escaping he meets with Daredevil who, after Spidey tells his story, believes him due to his extra-sensory powers. Suddenly a whole band of policemen in a helicopter attempts to capture him again, but Spidey successfully eludes them.

Black Cat appears and tells him that Venom has a message on the big screen for him and Rhino has been causing trouble at the high tech company Omnitek. Venom reveals that he is holding Peter Parker's wife Mary Jane hostage until Spidey meets him. Though his wife is in danger, Spidey promises Black Cat that he will help her stop Rhino as he has never forgotten the lesson he has learned about using his powers for others before himself, no matter how great the cost. He vows to take down Venom once and for all.

When the two arrive at Omnitek, the technology has already been stolen. Rhino appears and puts Black Cat out of commission, then turning his attention to Spider-Man. Spidey defeats him by making him charge into some electrical generators and petrol drums. He later watches Dr. Octavius appear with the police and help capture the villain. In his real identity as Peter Parker, he watches Black Cat being taken away in an ambulance but she tries to warn him that they are really kidnapping her.

Later he talks with Johnny Storm (aka Human Torch and member of the Fantastic Four) about his situation, who tells him to have faith in finding Venom. Venom suddenly appears and taunts him, leading to chase through a subway station, the sewers and finally a water pumping station where Mary Jane is being held. After a fierce battle, Spidey tells Venom how foolish he has been to believe Spider-Man to be a thief at the exposition as both of them were in the crowd that day while the imposter was on stage, thereby playing them against each other.

Realizing that Spidey is right Venom releases Mary-Jane and then decides to team up with his rival and find the real thief. They set off for the Daily Bugle to find any information about the expo robbery. They separate after Venom senses another dangerous Symbiote being around; Carnage, the most evilest of all.

Spidey then sees Symbiotes created by generators and destroys them by taking out the generators themselves and using one of their main weaknesses against them; fire.

After going deep underneath the Daily Bugle building, he finally meets the imposter, who is revealed to be another one of his enemies, Mysterio, Master of Illusion. Mysterio then used his tricks of illusion to grow into a huge giant, attempting to crush Spider-Man as well as firing laser beams and electrifying the floors. Spidey cuts off his power supply and shrinks the villain back to his normal size. Spider-Man then interrogates him, demanding to know who was behind the Symbiotes. Mysterio refuses to tell him and said that the Symbiote invasion could not be stopped. Spidey then smashes his helmet in anger and demands to know where they were coming from. Mysterio then told him to go to the waterfront to Warehouse 65 to find his answer and Spidey handed him over to the police.

He arrives at the warehouse and after exchanging conversation with Punisher, Spidey finds more Symbiotes made by even more generators and destroys them all. He then goes down a passage that takes him right to the bottom of the ocean. After avoiding laser machines and electrified floors, Spider-Man arrives at the central point where the fog was being released. He also finds Black Cat being held in a force field prison. Spider-Man then sets to work turning off the exhaust ports that are releasing the fog and shutting down the power in the process, which sets Black Cat free.

While Black Cat leaves to find help, Spidey goes off to find who is behind all this. He discovers that it is none other than Doctor Octopus who set up the ruse and had teamed up with Carnage in a scheme for world domination and was using the fog as a means to help Symbiotes adapt on Earth.

Venom appears and battles Carnage whilst Spidey battles Ock, who uses a force field to protect himself, but Spider manages to drain its power and defeats him. Ock then falls to the ground unconscious.

Venom is defeated by Carnage who then turns on Spidey himself. But Spider-Man defeats him by luring him into a sonic bubble in the middle of the room as high pitch sound waves are the Symbiotes' second weakness. After the battle, the symbiote leaves it's host Cletus Kassidy and then bonds with Ock who turns into a terrifying, monstrous, Monster Ock. Spidey flees for his life with the Symbiote scientist right behind him, whilst the lab is exploding all around them. After eluding the monster, Spidey watches as he is engulfed in a fiery explosion that separates Ock from the Symbiote. Spider-Man then concludes that the Symbiote had it's role in saving the scientist. Spidey and the now unconscious Ock make their escape from the lab before it is completely destroyed by a jet piloted by Captain America who was contacted by Black Cat about the situation. Venom and Black Cat are there too with Venom asking for Captain America's autograph, much to his annoyance. Ock is then sent to prison.

In the game's ending Spidey is playing cards with Daredevil, Captain America and Punisher, while Black Cat and Johnny Storm and dancing to some music.

Enter Electro[]

Spider-Man finds himself on the trail of a plot by Electro to assemble all the pieces of something called the Bio-Nexus Device, which can amplify one's bio-energy, to essentially make himself powerful enough to become a god. To do this, he was been stealing the pieces of the device from places owned by BioTech. Unfortunately for him, Spider-Man happens to witness a bank robbery committed by Shocker and his thugs, who are working for Electro, and follows Shocker to a warehouse by placing a spider tracer on his motorcycle. Although Shocker manages to hand the briefcase with the pieces of the device to the Beetle, another of Electro's accomplices, Spider-Man manages to defeat all of his henchmen despite their attempt to lay a trap for him by using a combination of stealth, strategy and strength, before defeating Shocker himself and leaving him webbed up for the cops outside the building.

Thanks to interrogating a thug, he follows a lead to an airfield. However, along the way, he comes across a rogue group of mercenaries, who arm a bomb with enough power to blow up a city block. Thankfully, he manages to disarm the bomb by tracking down the members of the mercenaries with the 4 color-coded keys needed to do so before it can go off. Next, upon arriving at the airfield, he witnesses the Beetle and his henchmen setting up a nest of machine guns to ambush the cops with, but similarly to the warehouse, Spider-Man manages to use a combination of stealth and strength to take out the henchmen manning the machine guns and the machine guns themselves before the cops arrive. Afterwards, while the Beetle manages to escape on a helicopter, Spider-Man manages to place a tracer on it, then stops a runaway airplane from crashing and saves the tied up pilot.

After that's taken care of, Spider-Man traces the helicopter to a train yard owned by Hammerhead, who is also working with Electro, where he fights his way through his henchmen who are acting as guards, as well as Sandman, to reach a train where he catches up to the Beetle. Though the Beetle escapes, Spider-Man still finds a major clue on where to go next: an invitation to the Science and Industry Ball. Surely enough, in the meantime, Electro holds a meeting with all his associates where he explains his plan regarding the Bio-Nexus Device, and how he nearly has all the pieces he needs, with the only one he's now missing being a power source, so he orders Hammerhead and his gangster-like thugs to kidnap the the device's creator, Dr. Watts, at the upcoming ball since she's the only one who knows where it is, during which they take other people hostages. However, Spider-Man manages to foil that too, using his usual combination of stealth, strategy and strength to incapacitate his goons and rescue the hostages room by room before confronting Hammerhead himself, defeating him and leaving him webbed up for the cops. Unfortunately, Dr. Watts gets kidnapped during the battle by Sandman.

As his next course of action, Spider-Man decides to contact Dr. Curt Connors since he was Dr. Watts colleague, and therefore, he can tell him more about her and why all these big-name supervillains would be after her. Unfortunately, when he tries to call him, all he hears are a bunch of pained cries and roars, so he decides to investigate by sneaking into BioTech. After successfully infiltrating the building and getting past all the extensive security, he manages to reach his office, only to, unsurprisingly, come face-to-face his his violent alter-ego, the Lizard, whom he's transformed into. He manages to lock him outside the room long enough to concoct an antidote, then injects him with enough of it to neutralize and turn him back to normal. He then learns from him about the Bio-Nexus Device, how she's its creator and why Electro wants it. He then does some research by going to her lab and finds out a special sapphire is what's needed to power the device, before being attacked by Sandman a second time. However, he manages to defeat and drive him off by exploiting his weakness to water in the ensuing fight at a nearby construction site, before he then comes across a newspaper article advertising that very sapphire, due to it being on display at the museum.

Spider-Man rushes to the museum, but Electro beats him there. However, Spider-Man then engages in a showdown with him in the planetarium, manages to come out victorious and take the sapphire. Unfortunately, Electro is still holding Dr. Watts hostage, so he demands for him to give it back by threatening to kill her if he doesn't. In the ensuing exchange, Spider-Man tries to use his webbing to both reel in the doctor and take back the sapphire after tossing it into the air, but unfortunately, he misses the latter since he gets knocked off by balance when the doctor collides with him, allowing Electro to grab it, complete the device and become the god-like and nearly invincible Hyper-Electro. Spider-Man then follows him to the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center where they engage in a climactic battle. Of course, thanks to his new powers and being made of pure electrical energy, Spider-Man has no chance of defeating him in direct combat and cannot even touch him. However, he manages to use the nearby generators to his advantage by tricking Electro into blasting them while trying to attack him, which overloads the Bio-Nexus Device and leaves him vulnerable, which, after repeating a few times, destroys the device and leaves Electro defeated, after which he gets sent to jail. Unfortunately, in typical fashion, all the credit in the paper about Electro's defeat the next day ends up going to Thor, to which Spider-Man, in equally typical fashion, simply shakes his head and remarks that he needs a new agent before swinging away.
