Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Spike Witwicky is the oldest (and sometimes only) son of Sparkplug Witwicky and the human friend of the Autobots. He was voiced by Corey Burton who also voices Sunstreaker, Brawn, Dale, Professor Ludwig Von Drake etc. He is officially the first main human protagonist of the Transformers franchise.
Spike, like most Witwickys, has a tendency to form close bonds to the Autobots and become one of their main human allies. Cause let's face it, there are advantages when your best friend is a car (such as Bumblebee).
History[]
Despite being too young to qualify for a driver's license, Spike worked with his father Sparkplug on an offshore oilrig in 1984 and became one of the first human allies of the Autobots. Spike soon became friends with the Autobot Bumblebee and more than friends with the human Carly. By 2005, he'd had a son named Daniel and was stationed on the Cybertron Moon Base. Narrowly surviving the Unicron War, Spike continued to aid the Autobots in missions both deadly and diplomatic, eventually becoming the Headmaster partner of Cerebros in 2006.
In a splinter timeline, Spike did not become a Headmaster at first, and by 2011 had focused his energies on diplomacy. He eventually journeyed to planet Master and became a Headmaster via a modified Exo-Suit. In 2021, Spike was embroiled in a scheme concocted by Old Snake that briefly saw him framed for crimes he didn't commit. His name was cleared by his old friend Bumblebee, though.
Comics[]
Spike first appeared in Issue #38 of the Marvel US comics, after having been mentioned in the previous issue. He returned home from college to find the family garage had been destroyed in a Decepticon attack. He learned from his father Sparkplug of his family's involvement with the Transformers and went looking for his younger brother Buster at the former site of the Autobots' ship the Ark. He discovered Goldbug, whose brain had been placed inside a toy car, and then encountered the Autobot Headmasters, who had just arrived from Nebulos. He learned Buster had been captured by the Decepticon Ratbat but was unable to convince Galen, the leader of the Autobots' Nebulan allies, to help him. When the Decepticon Headmasters turned up, Spike asked the Autobots for help and Galen had a change of heart, ultimately sacrificing himself to save Spike from a rockfall caused by Scorponok and bequeathing his control helmet to him, allowing him to take control of Fortress Maximus and help drive back the Decepticons.
Spike underwent the full binary bonding process to become Fortress Maximus' Headmaster partner but the Autobots were reluctant to accept him as leader. During an attempt to rescue Buster from Ratbat's island base, Kup insisted he stay back and let the Autobot Targetmasters take the lead. When they failed, Spike made an attempt himself but failed to stop the artificial island taking off into space, although he did send Shockwave hurtling to his apparent doom. He later intercepted a call which allowed the Autobots to recover the personality disc of Optimus Prime. They made contact with Optimus Prime's old troops, stationed on the moon, with Spike revealing himself to the mistrustful leader Grimlock.
After Optimus Prime was restored as Autobot leader, Spike accompanied him, Fortress Maximus and Blaster in searching for the Decepticon base. Following Buster's rescue and the resolution of the Underbase affair, Spike resigned from the Autobots, leaving Fortress Maximus dormant, and went skiing with his friend Cliff, only to be attacked by Decepticon Pretender Beasts Carnivac and Snarler. He was able to summon Fortress Maximus despite losing his helmet and recombine with him to defeat the pair.
Spike wasn't seen again in the present day until Issue #79, when he investigated the site where the Ark had crashed and found Galvatron, the only survivor of the crash, on the rampage. Spike again reunited with Fortress Maximus to defeat him. In the G.I. Joe comics that led into Generation 2, he returned to the Ark on learning a rebuilt Megatron and Starscream were using it as a base, teaming up with Skydive, the survivor of an Autobot unit sent to stop Megatron. After failing in combat, Spike and Fort Max sacrificed themselves to destroy the Ark.
In Marvel UK's post-movie stories, Spike appeared briefly in "Time Wars" alongside Daniel, urging Rodimus Prime to stop a Decepticon plot before travelling back in time. He appeared in an alternate future in US Issue #67, where Galvatron had conquered North America, with Spike and his friend Lisa assisting the small group of surviving Autobots led by Prowl. To stop a nuclear attack that would wipe them all out, they launched a raid on Galvatron's base, with Spike hanging the American flag from it as a symbolic victory that saw the attack called off. With Galvatron being abducted by Unicron's heralds soon after, they were left with a chance at victory.
