One day, he and four baby turtles were doused by a canister of mutagen, making them grow into anthropomorphic beings. He tried scaring the turtles away, but it turned out they liked him too. Splinter adopted and raised the Turtles as his sons below the sewers of New York City. After watching Jackie Chan movies and Internet tutorials, Splinter learned martial arts and trained the Turtles.

Personality[]
Splinter is a mentor of the Turtles and has been a fatherly figure for them. However, Splinter grows very overprotective of the Turtles, refusing to let them integrate into human society because of his past traumas. He was also somewhat prejudiced towards humans mostly due to them rejecting him and one of them stepping on his best friend Kevin, who was a cockroach. However, he was quick to befriend April who was the first human not to show prejudice towards him when they first met.
