My sons, Michelangelo, you have heart. Donatello, you have wisdom. Raphael, you have bravery. And Leonardo, honor.
~ Splinter to the Turtles

Splinter is the deuteragonist of Nickelodeon’s 42nd full-length animated feature film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, a reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series.

He is an animal-born mutant rat turned, and the adoptive father of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

He is voiced by Jackie Chan, who also voiced Monkey in the Kung Fu Panda series and Master Wu in The LEGO Ninjago Movie and played Inspector Lee in the Rush Hour movies, Wong Fei-Hung in the Drunken Master movies, and Mr. Han in the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid. In the TV series, he is voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who also voiced Shifu in the Kung Fu Panda TV series and Hulk in some Marvel TV series and films.

Biography[]

Background[]

Splinter was a literal street rat who was hated by both humans and animals alike, except for a cockroach named Kevin. However, humans stepped on his best friend and killed him. Splinter made haste in eating his friend's corpse.

One day, he and four baby turtles were doused by a canister of mutagen, making them grow into anthropomorphic beings. He tried scaring the turtles away, but it turned out they liked him too. Splinter adopted and raised the Turtles as his sons below the sewers of New York City. After watching Jackie Chan movies and Internet tutorials, Splinter learned martial arts and trained the Turtles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem[]

One night when the Turtles return home Splinter catches them and grounds them for leaving the lair and being with humans.

Powers and Abilities[]

Martial Arts: After watching a video tutorials online and most of Jackie Chan movies, Splinter became well-versed in the art of Ninjutsu. Despite his age, Splinter is able to fight in his own right, using a cane in combat.

Personality[]

Splinter is a mentor of the Turtles and has been a fatherly figure for them. However, Splinter grows very overprotective of the Turtles, refusing to let them integrate into human society because of his past traumas. He was also somewhat prejudiced towards humans mostly due to them rejecting him and one of them stepping on his best friend Kevin, who was a cockroach. However, he was quick to befriend April who was the first human not to show prejudice towards him when they first met.

Despite aforementioned prejudice, Splinter is ultimately against Superfly's plan to eradicate all humanity and replace mutants as the dominant species. This helped by him witnessing how the latter completely consumed by the hatred towards humanity and later, receiving unexpectected help from another kind-hearted human during the final battle.

Trivia[]

  • Splinter learned martial arts from watching Jackie Chan movies, with the latter being his actor.
  • At the end of the movie, he starts dating Scumbug, much to his sons' disgust.
  • This version of Splinter is neither Hamato Yoshi, the mutated form or reicarnation of Yoshi himself.
  • Splinter hates the terms like "ratted out."
