Jonathan Ohnn, better known as The Spot, is a minor antagonist in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

He was a scientist who gained the power to create time-dilation portals. He started out as a petty crook but later helped Spider-Man save New York City and the world.

He was voiced by Oliver Muirhead.

History[]

One night at Stark Enterprises, Tony Stark has his men dismantle all technology related to inner-dimensional travel. A Stark Enterprises scientist named Jonathan Ohnn begs Stark not to dismantle the inner-dimensional technology, saying that it is his life's work. However, Tony Stark denies Ohnn's request and tells Ohnn that he will find another project for him to work on. However, Ohnn resigns from Stark Enterprises, believing Tony Stark would have him work on an unimportant project.

Soon after, Ohnn was approached by Wilson Fisk, otherwise known as The Kingpin, who said that he was fascinated with Ohnn's technology. At first, Ohnn was skeptical of the idea of working with him, but when Fisk showed Ohnn the advanced laboratory he would be given, along with a new assistant named Sylvia Lopez, Ohnn decided to accept. The two of them continued the work on the project, and eventually, the two completed it. However, during testing things went wrong as Ohnn was sucked into the portal, which then exploded and sent several small portals all over New York City. Ohnn soon teleported back but now he was covered in portals and realized he could create and control time dilation portals. Ohnn then told Sylvia that he had fallen in love with her, but before they could do anything with that they realized that portals were all over New York so Ohnn went around closing them, but ended up missing one by mistake.

Ohnn teleported back to the laboratory, and shortly afterwards, Fisk came to see Dr. Ohnn and Dr. Lopez. As Fisk got there, Ohnn said he needed more time to work on the Time Dilation Accelerator. Fisk was unhappy and threatened harm on Ohnn if he didn't finish it soon. Ohnn, at that point, decided to turn on Fisk and told Dr. Lopez they would set up their own laboratory to keep the machine out of Fisk's hands. He knew he needed the money, though, so he decided to steal the money using his new powers, now dubbing himself the supervillain The Spot. Spot later robbed a bank to get the money he needed. After hearing the alarms going off, Spider-Man came to the bank, and he saw that Spot was putting several bags of money into one large pile. After Spot sent several bags of money through a portal, Spider-Man realized that Spot was creating dilation portals that appeared all over the city. Spider-Man attempted to attack Spot. However, when Spider-Man leaped at Spot, Spot opened a portal and sent him to a rooftop; then, he escaped after sending Spider-Man to the Statue of Liberty.

Spot then teleported into a jewelry store, where Felicia Hardy and Jason Philips were picking out an engagement ring. Spot proceeded to rob the jewelry store. Spot saw Felicia's engagement ring and attempted to take it. Jason Philips fought back, but Spot used his powers to throw Jason across the room. Spider-Man showed up at that moment, and The Spot opened several portals to distract Him, allowing him to escape again with all his stolen jewelry. A short while later, Spot teleported back to the laboratory. As Spot searched the lab for Sylvia, he found her in a room talking to Fisk about his powers. Ohnn didn't feel hurt thinking Sylvia betrayed him, but she explained that Fisk was a powerful crime lord who essentially owned her. Sylvia did grow to care about Ohnn and didn't want to watch him challenge the Kingpin and fail. However, Ohnn was confident he could defeat the Kingpin with his new powers.

A short while later Spot teleported to Crime Central met with Kingpin. Kingpin ordered his guards into the room to take out Spot. However, Spot opened several time dilation portals and teleported the guards away. Spot told Kingpin he was taking over as the new Kingpin, but the Kingpin revealed he had a trump card, and he kidnapped Sylvia offscreen and said he would kill her unless he killed Spider-Man. Spot was reluctant but agreed in order to save her, he knew that Spider-Man could track the energy released by his portals, so he waited on a rooftop for him. Spider-Man eventually found Spot by using his GPS to track the energy released by his portals. As Spider-Man landed on the rooftop Spot created several portals and used them to attack Spider-Man from different angles. Spider-Man, this time, was able to gain the upper hand using his spider senses but was starting to realize something was wrong with Spot. After pressing Spot reveals Kingpin is threatening to kill Sylvia unless he kills Spider-Man. Spider-Man gets an idea after hearing this.

Spot returned to Crime Central carrying Spider-Man's supposed body. Kingpin was happy to see Spider-Man finally dead, but as he tried to remove his mask, Spider-Man surprise attacked Kingpin, revealing himself to actually still be alive, and both of them tricked Kingpin. During the fight between the three, suddenly, there was an Earthquake, and Herbert Landon looked at a monitor and saw that Spot had left one of his portals open in the sky and that it had grown and was now huge. Spider-Man knew that if the portal grew too big, it could potentially destroy the entire planet. Spot attempted to close the portal, but it had already grown too strong for him to be able to do so. Spider-Man had the idea that if they used the Time Dilation Accelerator to enhance Spot's powers, they could use it, and they would need one of Kingpin's jets. Kingpin agreed, not wanting to die.

Spot, Sylvia, and Spider-Man flew the jet close to the portal. Spider-Man hooked Spot up to his Time Dilation Accelerator and activated the machine. They were able to use the Time Dilation Accelerator to enhance Spot's powers, but they were still having little success closing the portal. Spot realized his powers were increased further while inside the Portal, so he attempted to do so, even though he didn't know if he would survive. Sylvia said she loved Ohnn and couldn't live without him, so she jumped into the portal with him. As the two jumped inside, the Portal did close but trapped them inside.
