Stakeout is a minor character in the Transformers franchise. The original version of the character came from the 1989 toyline.

History[]

Stakeout was the one-time leader of the Rescue Patrol of Autobot Micromasters. He was introduced in the UK-exclusive story "A Small War" as one of the first Autobot Micromasters serving under Emirate Xaaron. He was part of a unit under Roadhandler who were sent to destroy the Decepticon base where the Battle Patrol were being held prisoner, to stop the Decepticons reverse-engineering them to create their own Micromasters. They decided to rescue them instead, with Stakeout leading a diversionary attack while Roadhandler, Powertrain and Seawatch performed the rescue.

Stakeout made his first Marvel US appearance in Issue #60, where he was one of the Cybertron-based Autobots working with Classic Pretenders Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee in their raids against Decepticon strongholds. He and the rest of his patrol were selected to accompany the trio to Earth as reinforcements for the Autobots there. Just as they were about to be transported, the base was attacked by the Decepticon Mayhem Squad, and they were instead transported to the centre of Cybertron, where they discovered the sleeping Primus. They were attacked again by the Mayhem Squad, with Stakeout defeating Octopunch, before they were transported to Earth for real, although not before Primus had been briefly woken by the battle, attracting the attention of Unicron.

In the UK story "The Greatest Gift of All", Stakeout led the Rescue Patrol in pursuing the Decepticon assassin Whisper. They ended up battling the whole of the Air Strike Patrol. Stakeout was recalled by Optimus Prime when it became clear that the battle was causing a large amount of damage to the environment.
