You create new victims every day, Carol. You get in the way of them helping themselves... they can never become strong, they can never reach their full potential with you "saving" them at every turn. With me to show them the path, there will be no more victims, just survivors. And that path does not include you, "Captain Marvel." You -- are -- not -- the answer! And you no longer belong in this world.
~ Star

Star (real name Ripley Ryan) is an anti-hero in the Marvel Universe. She was a former reporter who interviewed Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) for Tony Stark. While she did become a hero and fought alongside Carol, she soon turned against her.

She was created by Kelly Thompson and Carmen Carnero and first appeared in Captain Marvel Vol 10 #1 as Ripley Ryan, and in #8 as Star.

History[]

Human[]

Ripley Ryan was hired by Tony Stark to interview Captain Marvel for the new Avengers team, so Carol could rebuild her trust with the public. However, when she met with Carol, they were attacked by Nuclear Man who defeated Carol and the Avengers, and kidnapped Ryan. Captain Marvel was the only hero to follow her.

She defeated Nuclear Man by using the captured women civilians and heroes he'd captured. Ripley joined the fight and returned home with the rest of the women.

Superhero[]

Ripley later found out about Minn-Erva's efforts to genetically engineer humans into human/Kree hybrids. Ripley volunteered to become a superhero. She was the only survivor of the experiment. Ripley had become a Human/Kree hybrid, but had no superpowers. Ripley then decided to steal them from Carol. To do this, she created a Kraken with a virus in its blood, but Carol defeated it - and got infected. The virus mutated inside Carol and formed an device on her heart to siphon off her powers and give them to Ripley.

Later, Carol and Star ended up with each other, and Carol tried to question the hero, but Star got away. Ripley was fast becoming an up-and-coming superhero who quickly rose in popularity as Carol's popularity plummeted.

Supervillain[]

When Star found out Minn-Erva was planing on recruiting Carol, she nearly killed Minn-Erva, and left the message "You're not as smart as you think you are." written in Minn-Erva's own blood.

Carol brought Minn-Erva to Tony Stark for medical treatment. Minn-Erva revealed her plan to Carol. Carol then went to confront Star. While Carol put up a fight, she grew weaker from the device. Running out of options, Carol ripped the device from her own chest, severing the power connection to Star, causing both women to fall to earth.

Carol was seriously injured, while Star seemed fine. Star then revealed that she had infected all of New York City with the virus. Carol defeated Star by ripping out the device in Star's chest, causing her to lose her powers and was sent to the Raft. However, it was revealed Ripley had merged with the Reality Stone and escaped from the Raft.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • After merging with the Reality Stone, Ripley now has the ability to alter reality to however she sees fit.
  • Human/Kree hybrid.
