Stepan is a major character in the Metro series. He is a member of the Spartan Rangers and a survivor of the Battle of D6, before he joins in with Sviatoslav Konstantinovich Mel'nikov and Artyom Alekseyevich Chyornyj's crew, the Aurora Crew, in escaping Moscow and journeying eastward after uncovering Hanza's involvement that led them to their exile.

Throughout the journey, Stepan serves as the crew's heavy weapons specialist, supplying heavy weapons for the crew including Artyom, and later marries Nastya's mother Katya, thereby making Nastya his stepdaughter.

Background

Overview

Stepan, a long-serving ranger in the Sparta Order, was one of the few survivors of the Battle for D6 - along with Artyom, Miller, Letyaga, Duke, and dozens of others.

When the Order splits during the events of Metro 2035, Stepan sides with Artyom and other senior rangers. Stepan accompanies Artyom and Anna on their trek to the east of Russia in Metro Exodus.

He is taller than all members of the Aurora's crew and specialises in heavy weaponry as one of the train's best combatants. Stepan is a hopeless romantic, similar to Alyosha's flirtatious personality, who constantly wants to help those in need, despite his frightening appearance.

Metro Exodus

On the Aurora, Stepan joins Artyom and his pals. Stepan is immediately taken with Katya when they arrive on the Volga and, while never doubting Miller before, is adamant about not abandoning her and her daughter. Katya and Nastya finally join the team when Miller agrees.

Stepan grew close to them from the start, and the three were frequently seen together.

Stepan is the first of the rangers to become disabled owing to dehydration in the Caspian Desert, and he only lives thanks to Katya's efforts. Stepan proposes to Katya as soon as he heals, and the two marry. Miller marries them on board the Aurora.
