Sting Eucliffe is a false antagonist who became a supporting protagonist in the anime/manga Fairy Tail. He is one of the five orphans chosen to be a Dragon Slayer and got sent four hundred years to the future to assist in the destruction of Acnologia. He is the current Guild Master of the Sabertooth Guild and is part of the team Twin Dragons of Sabertooth with Rogue Cheney. He is also a big fan of Natsu Dragneel and wishes to surpass him one day.
He is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai and Fuyuka Ōura as a child in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Michael Jones and Samantha Herek as a child in the English version.
Appearance[]
Sting is a young, slim, muscular toned man who is around average height. He has spiky blonde hair, kept in strands jutting outwards in every direction, and also a smaller, frontal cowlick of hair partially hanging over his forehead. He has slanted dark blue eyes with silt pupils; above the right side of his eyebrow is a long, thin, diagonal scar. On Sting's left ear is an earring that is adorned that can be attached to a prominent metal pendant that is crystalline shape. His Sabertooth guild mark is white and is located on his left shoulder. Sting also has sharp canine teeth as a dragon slayer.
He is usually seen wearing a blue vest with golden outer edges and inner edges covered by a prominent trimming of gray fur that appears to be similar to a feather boa that is over a short, cream top, which shows his muscular upper abdominals. On his arms, he wears long dark blue gloves that goes up to his his mid-bicep, with their upper edges being adorned by light gray bands hanging down several centimeters. Pretty similar to Natsu, he wears a loose, cream-colored pants, but instead held up by suspenders, which attaches to the pant loops by square rings that are gold. Over them, he dons distinctive dark blue Galosh-Esque footwear that reaches up to his thighs and attaches the upper edge of his pants. The soles of his boots look pretty similar to his pants; it has rectangular protrusions pointing upwards on their front portion.
Personality[]
Sting is an arrogant individual who would often brag about killing his foster father. This also increases his sense of superiority as a dragon slayer by calling himself a “true" dragon slayer. After Yukino gets excommunicated from Sabertooth due to her failure, Sting shows that he doesn't care but rather states that as the strongest guild, they will have no failures. He only expressed joy when he was one of the top 5 wizards of Sabertooth. He was angered when Natsu Dragneel said that fighting for his comrades was his reason for entering the Grand Magic Games. Sting also shows a sadistic side, most notably when Lucy Heartfilia is tortured by Minerva, which he laughs at along with most of his guild mates. Despite his arrogant nature, it shows that Sting cares about Lector and keeps his promise to surpass Natsu. He was horrified when Lector got "killed" by Jiemma, and he shortly after attacks Jiemma in rage which shows he has a vengeful side. After Lector's capture by Minerva, his personality becomes solemn since Minerva tells him that to get Lector back, he has to win the Grand Magic Games.
As the current guild master of Sabertooth, Sting is shown to be cheerful and easy going. When they were in the pool, Rogue stated that this was the happiest he had ever seen him. Sting is excited about improving the guild and making it a place others can call home, and is also really excited about working with his teammates to get the job done, which demonstrates his more cooperative and social side. As the new guild master, he doesn’t mind if members still refer to him as Sting, which is shown when Lector accidentally calls him by his regular name instead of master. Despite being the new cheerful guild master, Sting is shown to be insecure filling in as the new guild master of Sabertooth. After the loss of the Alvarez Empire, he says he’s too pathetic to do anything, and even after Yukino tried to slapped some sense into him by telling him that it’s his responsibility to encourage everyone to continue fighting even in times like this, he still considers himself a pathetic master.
Overall though, Sting is a calm individual who rarely ever loses his temper, though he enjoys watching fights with a desire to fight strong opponents. Sting believes that people who abandon their comrades are scum and does not hesitate to punish them for their acts. Sting also thinks that Dragon Slayers who are defeated by a Dragon are nothing but a disgrace. Also, as a Dragon Slayer, Sting stereotypically, yet comically, suffers from motion sickness, describing it as a benefit of a "true" dragon slayer. When Gajeel Redfox got motion sickness for the first time, he congratulates him on being a "real" dragon slayer. Sting is also very loyal towards his comrades and is never willing to break promises that he makes to them.
Magic and Abilities[]
- White Dragon Slayer Magic: is a form of Dragon Slayer Magic which allows the user to to manipulate and generate light. Just like every other Slayer within the series, he can consume anything that is white, to increase his strength. Because of the appearance of this power, it is rather described to be Holy, Sting states that his opponents suffer from the "judgement of the holy white." Since Sting was both raised by a Dragon who taught him Dragon Slayer Magic and had a lacrima implanted inside him, he is a Third Generation Dragon Slayer.
- White Dragon's Roar: is an ability that any Dragon Slayer can do but instead the element is light. His roar has an appearance of a small laser, which can slice the ground in strikes, even creating a linear explosion on its wake. Depends what he eats, his Dragon's Roar looks more different, like a large whirlwind, piercing through several buildings, usually causing a huge hole between the buildings. This is shown when someone from a dark guild they fought tried shooting an arrow at both Sting and Rogue, but Sting catching the arrow, and since it was white, he ate the arrow, which led him to do the roar.
- White Dragon's Holy Breath: this is just like the White Dragon's Roar but is far stronger and causes more damage. This can have Sting jump over his opponent and let out a massive powerful burst of light from his mouth; when fighting Natsu and Gajeel during the Grand Magic Games, he used this technique and causes the arena to rubble, creating a large hole even going far deep that they went into the underground.
- White Dragon's Roar: is an ability that any Dragon Slayer can do but instead the element is light. - Dragon Force: An advanced special ability that only Dragon Slayers have, turning them into a humanoid Dragon, in this case, makes Sting's body more like a White Dragon, having his whole body becomes a whole cloak of an aura of light that is even better than the White Drive, and with pure white scales appearing throughout his body, covering the outer edges of his face, and reaching to sides of his neck to the rest of his body. As a Third Generation Dragon Slayer, he is able to access it more easily compared to First Generation Dragon Slayers since they need to consume a strong external amounts of magic, which is shown for the Third Generation Dragon Slayers that they don't necessarily need that in order to use the Dragon Force.
- Holy Nova: A form of Dragon Slayer's Secret Arts; describing it as his best power of his White Dragon Slayer Magic, as it can also lead to a great explosion whatever he has in contact with during the, making Sting himself unharmed, but his target to feel the most pain. He can initiate by bending his white right arm backwards, clenching his fist, and extending his mildly bent left arm frontwards towards that target. As he rushes towards his target and punches them, his right hand that is covered by a massive light. Despite this power being Sting's best attack, it is quite unknown how Natsu was able to stop the punch with a single hand since this punch can lead to strong explosions.
- Unison Raid: Which makes two Wizards to unite their magic together making the attack seemly stronger. He usually is seen combining his magic with his partner Rogue, when trying to defeat Mard Geer, they use the Holy Shadow Dragon's Flash Fang, making their fist have a large amount of shadow and light, combining light and shadow together with a large attack.
- White Shadow Dragon Mode: After eating Rogue's shadow element when he was fighting Larcade, he now gains the ability to use use his power enhanced with shadows. White marks are covering most of the left side of his body, as the the right side of his body is covered in black marks, that has an appearance of Dragon scales. When using his power, he is able to manipulate light and shadows. Sting had a hard time with this combined ability, but for the help of Rogue and Kagura, he was able to enter into his own shadow, which helped him defeat Larcade with White Shadow Dragon's Rough Silk, which is a large thin beam of light and shadow, that will hit the target in different directions, causing high injures for the target.
- Enhanced Smelling: As a Dragon Slayer, Sting is able to possess an incredible sense of smell unlike other humans, he not able to find Frosch when they were searching for it at first since there were too many scents to figure out where Frosch went, and was able to tell that Lacrade smelled exactly like Natsu even though its been revealed the Natsu is related to Zeref.

- Sting tends to be very fond to white things according to Lector, even making him eat Frosch's white flower, causing Frosch to cry.
- Because of Rogue's anger, the result led him to break up the Twin Dragons for some time.
- Sting's likes include Natsu and Lector. His dislikes include the old version of the guild.
- After the Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! Food Festival in X792, Sting became almost unrecognizable. But due to Libra's balance, he went back to his normal weight.
- He is the second youngest master in the series, taking over the guild at 19 years old, the youngest being Mavis Vermillion, who was 13 years old when Fairy Tail was founded.
- With the revelation that he was boen ove four hundred years ago, he is technically one of the oldest.
