Hero Overview

Stella: WHAT THE F-CK WAS THAT, STOLAS?!
Stolas: That… was the sound… of a F-CKING DIVORCE!!!
~ Stolas's most famous quote, as he admits to Stella that he slept with Blitzo and declares a divorce on her.
Stolas: I know what I did! I would feel bad if I'd hurt you, but we both know I didn't do that. You and I were arranged for one reason; to birth a precautionary heir to the Goetia family. Nothing more! I tried so many years to make it comfortable for us, to have this family, but it was never enough. The only reason I have endured your constant insults and cruelty was for that girl to have a normal life! I cannot do this anymore, I want you out. Now!
Stella: What do you mean,
out?!
Stolas: I mean out! Out of this palace, out of my life! We are getting the divorce!
Stella: How dare you?! What do you think the rest of the Goetia family will think? (Raises her hand and is about to hit Stolas' face) Andrealph-
Stolas: (Catches her hand) I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR ARROGANT BROTHER THINKS! And the only thing the Goetia family wanted from our marriage is already 17 so it's over. I'm done!
Stella: Fine. I have no desire to stay in the place of a traitorous embarrassment. You have fallen from what little grace you had... and I know you'll
pay for it.
~ Stolas telling Stella that he is really tried to make their marriage work, as he finally stands up to Stella and ragefully tells her that he's done with her and that they're getting a divorce as she leaves his house, while also telling him that he would pay for what he did.

Prince Stolas of the Ars Goetia is one of two deuteragonists (alongside Moxxie Knolastname) of the adult animated black comedy web series Helluva Boss.

He is the owner of the Grimoire that I.M.P. uses to access the living world and was a member of the Ars Goetia, a group/extended family of demons belonging to the highest aristocracy of Hell, making him one of the most powerful and influential demons in Hell, with Blitzo, Stolas' childhood friend and CEO of I.M.P, having sex wit Stolas once a month in exchange for the book, until Stolas gave him an Asmodean Crystal, causing Blitzo to snap at him and Stolas to end their affair. He was also the main target of Striker, the assassin hired by Stolas' estranged wife, Stella, until the hit was called off so Stella and her brother Andrealphus could keep him alive to usurp him.

Eventually, Andrealphus manages to convince Satan to banish Stolas, who tried to take the blame for Blitzo's actions to stop him being executed, for 100 years, all while usurping his power and gaining custody of his daughter Octavia. Stolas is currently living with Blitzo and his adoptive daughter Loona, stripped of his title and hated by most of Hell's lower class, and he and Blitzo seem to be reconciling.

He was voiced by Brock Baker in the pilot and is voiced by Bryce Pinkham in the series proper as an adult, and Leander Lewis as a child.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Stolas was born into the Ars Goetia family and received a Grimoire on his birthday by his father in order to study the skies, stars and prophecies of the human world, who at the same time told him he would have arranged marriage with Stella to produce a precautionary heir. Due to his father wanting to stop his son from crying about the non-negotiable future marriage because of the way she acted in the picture, he took Stolas to a circus where a young Fizzarolli and Blitzo were performing. Though disliking the rest of the show greatly, Stolas liked Blitzo and his jokes, so his father had a talk with Blitzo's father and bought Blitzo to be Stolas' playmate for the day so he didn't have to deal with him. The two became friends and met again years later during one of Stella's parties, where Blitzo tried to steal the Grimoire. Stolas mistook him for wanting to engage in sexual activity, which Blitzo used to obtain Stolas' book and thus gain access to Earth and begin the formation of I.M.P.

Stolas either didn't notice or cared about this and instead used this to initiate his divorce with Stella when Blitzo told her that they did it.

Pilot[]

Stolas was first properly introduced when he called Blitzo to aid him in getting rid of some unnamed people on Earth who were causing him problems by "convincing people global warming exists" - when Blitzo asked if it did Stolas confirmed that global warming was real but more people died if nothing was done about it.

Stolas then went into a vicious, perverted rant about varied acts he wanted to do to Blitzo, promptly causing Blitzo to hang up, destroy his phone and order Loona to eat it, and then excrete off of a bridge.

Murder Family[]

Stolas appears briefly in this episode where he decides to manipulate Blitzo into more sexual favors, this time agreeing to let him keep the book full-time save for on the night of the full moon every month when Blitzo must return the book "followed by a night of passionate fornication". Blitzo, who was being pursued by a serial killer at the time, angrily agreed, much to Stolas' pleasure and he went on one of his signature perverted rants, which continued in the background for quite some time.

Loo Loo Land[]

Stolas plays a major role in Loo Loo Land and is fleshed out from his origins as a joke character, becoming a father figure as well as a much more sympathetic character. It is revealed that he is the father of Octavia and cares deeply for his daughter, although his infidelity has caused him and his wife Stella to have a strained relationship, with Stella constantly shouting and yelling at him for his affair(s) with Blitzo. In the episode, he and Octavia go to Loo Loo Land (reluctantly on Octavia's part) where Stolas hires Blitzo, Moxxie and Millie to be their bodyguards for the day.

The crew enters Fizzarolli's tent and listens to him singing Loo Loo Land's theme tune, although Stolas flirting with Blitzo causes Octavia to have enough and run away. Stolas eventually follows his daughter to an underground ride, where she reveals her disliking that her parents are now at each other's throats and how home doesn't feel like home anymore. Stolas apologizes for his behavior and actions, saying that things between him and Stella are complicated in a way where he can't find the right words. Octavia reveals that she's worried her father will run away with Blitzo and leave her behind.

Stolas however assures Octavia that he'd never do that, and the two proceed to leave. After reconciling, he picks her up and carries her out of the park.

The Harvest Moon Festival[]

Stolas invited Blitzo and his friends to the Harvest Moon Festival, little did they know, Striker, an assassin blended in as a competitor of the festival, went to kill Stolas, however, Blitzo and Moxxie saved him from the assassin. After the festival, Striker escaped to a motel, and called Stella about his failed attempt to kill the prince.

Truth Seekers[]

Blitzo and Moxxie were captured by D.H.O.R.K.S., a group of paranormal investigators, with Stolas appeared in the climax, where he appeared as a nightmarish and eldritch demon to save Blitzo and his crew from the agents. Shortly after, Blitzo and Stolas begin to passionately make out.

Ozzie's[]

Stolas and Stella are now going through marital issues, which results in Stella taking Octavia to stay with her on weekends, leaving Stolas alone in the mansion. During this he is then called by Blitzo to hang out with him at Ozzie's, much to Stolas's surprise. Unaware that Blitzo's really only using Stolas to get through the door and spy on Moxxie and Millie during their anniversary, Stolas excitedly agrees and prepares for what he believed was his and Blitzo's first date.

Arriving in the Lust Ring through a portal to where Blitzo is and heading inside Ozzie's, Stolas attempts to make small talk with Blitzo, but the latter is too distracted by his spying on the couple. Also during this Stolas briefly becomes concerned upon hearing that Fizzarolli: a famous jester & a childhood friend of Blitzo, reveals that Asmodeus: the sin of Lust, is in the audience.

Later, he watches Moxxie perform onstage, but when Fizzarolli and Asmodeus interrupt Moxxie's song for Millie and turn to humiliating Blitzo instead, Asmodeus recognizes Stolas as Blitzo's date and calls him out for sleeping with Blitzo instead of focusing on Stella and Octavia, causing Stolas to become greatly embarrassed.

Blitzo also feels embarrassment and although Stolas tries to comfort him, Blitzo decides to leave the club, taking Stolas with him. Driving back to the latter's mansion, Stolas tries to invite Blitzo to stay awhile, but he frustratedly refuses, stating that their relationship was nothing more than Stolas wanting to have sex with him. Upset but conceding to his request, Stolas bids Blitzo goodnight, and as Blitzo pulls away, Stolas sheds tears and sits on his front steps in a lonely depression.

The Circus[]

After reminiscing about his past, Stolas confronts Stella, angrily calling her out for all she's done, and tells her to be gone and that they will officially divorce. While she calmly complies, she swears to him that it is not over between them.

Seeing Stars[]

Upon making the Divorce official, Stolas happily begins moving all of his ex-wife's stuff out of his palace and waists no time in antagonizing her on the phone. At the same time, he forgets that today is the day of a special meteor shower he promised to take Octavia to when she was young and when he tries to remind him, he just calmly brushes her off and continues his ranting to Stella.

Western Energy[]

Oops[]

Stolas comes to Asmodeus, requesting an Asmodean Crystal for Blitz but finds out find that Fizzaroli wouldn't agree due his hatred for Blitz which Stolas knows nothing about. Later after finding out that Fizz is kidnapped, Stolas reminds Asmodeus that signing a contract could be everbinding so Stolas fastreads it for him and after a few delays and Fizz and Ozzie reuniting, Stolas leaves letting Crimson's layer get what he deserves.

The Full Moon[]

Apology Tour[]

Blitzo tries to apologize to Stolas, but Stolas is not interested and tells Blitzo that he doesn't owe him an apology. Meanwhile, Stolas attends a party hosted by Verosika Mayday, where he sings a song about his heartbreak before Blitzo shows up at the party, still trying to apologize, but is rebuffed by Stolas and Verosika.

Appearance[]

Stolas is an incredibly tall owl like demon, almost twice as tall as Blitzo, but also incredibly thin and lanky. His face resembles that of a fiendish owl. He always wears expensive-looking clothes that befit a nobleman of Hell. He has four eyes, two placed where one would expect eyes to be and two over those. Oddly, should he wear a hat, the upper pair of eyes appear on the hat's brim. Occasionally, when startled or angered, his lower two eyes gain a pair of small white pupils. His human disguise is still very tall and thin, with grey hair and red eyes, with red-lensed sunglasses replacing the second set of eyes. His clothing in this form looks expensive and outdated, but not as foppish as how he dresses in his usual form. His true form, assumed when angry or enraged, is a horrific shadow with blood-red eyes and highlights. When wounded, it is shown his blood is thick and black-colored.

Personality[]

Stolas, don't act like what we have is anything but you wanting me to f-ck you, okay? You make that really clear all the time.
~ Blitzo to Stolas on their relationship.

Stolas is a high-ranking demon and thus capable of great evil, indeed in his first appearance he calmly talked about how mass-death was a good thing, despite this he is not actively malevolent in practice and prefers to indulge in his own perverted fantasies in regards to Blitzo.

This causes conflict with his family, especially with his wife Stella, due to imps being a lower-class demon. Stolas is aware of the social stigma of being in a relationship with an imp yet still openly admits that he cares for Blitzo.

Stolas is often prone to going into foul-mouthed and utterly perverted rants when he becomes aroused, which oftentimes causes great discomfort towards Blitzo, despite the latter having been his first friend as a child. Although despite his aggressive speeches, Stolas has never been shown to physically force himself on Blitzo, although he does use manipulative tactics to get sexual favors.

All in all, in regards to Stolas' relationship with Blitzo, it is a strange and often one-sided affair (quite literally) but Stolas does seem to have true affection for Blitzo. This puts him above Valentino in terms of standards and morality, whereas Val is abusive towards Vox and Angel Dust, even going as far as to rape the latter on multiple occasions.

In opposition to his status as a demon prince, Stolas, is a goofy, caring, and fun-loving guy. In fact, outside of his evil deeds and sexual life, Stolas is shown to care deeply for his daughter, Octavia, trying his best to raise her properly but also unknowingly babying her in the process. He eventually learns that Octavia is not a child anymore at the end of Loo Loo Land and goes as far as to promise that no matter how he may feel about Blitzo, that he would never leave with him and abandon her. This is even shown beforehand when he dismisses the imp's sudden absence to search for his daughter. The one time in the series to date where he assumes his true horrific demon form (and for that matter, addresses Blitzo by his actual name rather than a nickname) is when Octavia is missing. Indeed, when Octavia snuck into I.M.P. and used Stolas's grimoire to travel to Earth, Blitzo panicked, knowing full well that he wouldn't be able to avoid Stolas's anger or charm his way out of it.

I know what I did! I would feel bad if I hurt you, but we both know I didn't do that. You and I were arranged for one reason: to birth a precautionary heir to the Goetia family, nothing more. I tried, so many years to make it comfortable for us, to have this family, but it was never enough! The only reason I have endured your constant insults and cruelty was for that girl to have a normal life!
~ Stolas telling Stella that he really tried to make their marriage work, but to no avail.

During a segment in "Ozzie's" and later revealed in "The Circus", Stolas was forced into an arranged marriage with Stella and it turns out that he's truly unhappy with how things are between them, having never been able to please her and always being at the end of her mocking and condescending attitude. He even states that he would have actually felt bad for cheating on her had she actually cared about their marriage in a loving way - which she doesn't - and that he only put up with it for Octavia's sake, so she could have a normal and happy childhood. While he genuinely loves Blitzo, he's aware that their relationship is only one for mutual benefit and deems it a "comfortable lie". This proves that underneath all his power and royalty, Stolas is a truly lonely being who is desperate for true love and affection.

As a child, Stolas was far more eager and excitable when he became old enough to be given his responsibilities as a Goetia Prince. This was all ruined however by the non-negotiable, arranged marriage that was foisted on him by his father, something that caused the young Stolas to fall into tears. He was also very eager to have friends, being polite, gracious and kind after meeting Blitzo. Prior to their sexual relationship forming as adults, Stolas did seem to have developed some form of sentiment towards Blitzo that appeared to resemble a small crush upon seeing him for the first time.

He also collects and cultivates fiendish carnivorous plants, which unfortunately, tend to be damaged often by his wife's rages.

  • Musical talent: Stolas is shown to be very adept at singing, comforting his daughter with ballad-style lullabies. He also performs a song at Verosika's "I-hate-Blitzo" party and gets a huge applause.
  • Limitations: As he explains in "Seeing Stars", his powers are "limited" while on Earth if he does not have his Grimoire, such that he cannot provide disguises for anyone except himself and can be overpowered by a large number of civilians. He can be injured or killed with Heaven-forged weapons and is rendered powerless if bound by similarly-made rope.
  • Speed reading/reading comprehension: Due to growing up with a large library, Stolas can read extremely fast and comprehend what he reads fairly well.

Trivia[]

  • Stolas' phone call with Blitzo, and his other perverted rants are so obscene that they are heavily censored, even in an TV-MA show that is filled with strong language and adult humor.
    • Stolas has even shown distaste to the way Valentino treats others to the point where he loathes Valentino, specifically in various posts on Val's (Now archived) Instagram and on Blitzo's art streams.
    • Behind the scenes footage shows that the censored lines from the call were, at least in the recorded audio, far less egregious than what the censored portions of the rant implied, though it's stated in said footage that Baker's spoken words were what Stolas actually said (with the possible exception of the first censored word). This was likely done to let viewers fill in the blanks with interpretations far more disturbing than anything that could have been written.
  • Stolas is shown to be a loving father and thus while undeniably capable of great evil as a high-ranking demon is also a being with standards and limits on what he will and will not do.
  • In terms of power, Viv has admitted that she hasn't decided fully on Stolas' abilities yet. She did however reveal that his powers work differently than Alastor's, and even said that Stolas is actually stronger than him; Stolas has since been confirmed to be more powerful to most demons but below the Seven Princes and Lucifer.
  • Stolas is based on the real-world demon of the same name, who is also considered a high-ranking figure in Hell. Furthermore, both demons are owl-like creatures have a strong astrology theme and the ability to take on the form of a fair-skinned human.
  • Brock Baker's impression of Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer serves as the inspiration for Stolas' voice.
  • Stolas' Instagram account is @daddy_hoothoot.
  • It was suggested for many episodes and eventually confirmed that Stolas is a BDSM enthusiast; ironically, he seems to prefer being the submissive. Being a demon, the "toys" he uses for this include bear traps.
  • Stolas appears to suffer from depression as well as a drinking problem, as he is seen drinking absinthe - a liquor that is notorious for its strong alcohol content (47 - 74 percent) being mildly hallucinogenic, and borderline poisonous - straight from the bottle. In addition, he takes antidepressants.
  • In "The Circus", a painting of Stolas as a toddler shows him with a stuffed toy that looks like Max from Sam and Max.
  • His human disguise bears a resemblance to his voice actor Bryce Pinkham.
