Strider Sheena is a character from the Strider series, appearing only in the original manga and its NES adaptation. While her role in both versions differ slightly, it's basically the same.

History[]

Sheena was a member of the Striders, an A Class agent expert on firearms. She has been friends with Hiryu and Cain since they've met in training school and frequently teamed up with them on missions. Sheena seemingly never knew why Hiryu left the Striders and was unaware of his whereabouts ever since.

In 2048, she joins Cain on a mission to assist the Rebel Army in Kazakh in their struggles against the government's Secret Police. The location of the meeting is soon enough raided by a police force and the two Striders spring into action, with Sheena assisting Cain in taking down an armored stealth chopper. She'd later run into the flower girl that was used by the police Commander to capture Cain, and she'd learn everything that happened from her. Immediatenly she sent a report to the Striders HQ, leading Matic into forcing Hiryu out of retirement for the mission of finding and eliminating Cain.

Hiryu eventually finds Sheena hiding away in an abandoned building and meets back with his friend. Sheena is overjoyed to see Hiryu back, although Hiryu keeps secret that he's also there to kill Cain once found. Together they infiltrate the Secret Police HQ and escape with an uncoscious Cain and the chief of police as a captive. The two spend the night in a rebel safehouse until Cain wakes up. Acting distant, however, Sheena is caught off guard when Cain suddenly attacks her, injuring her arm. Hiryu fights the crazy Cain outside the safehouse and Sheena follows them, at one point trying to restrain Cain. Her efforts to stop the fight are futile and she ends up being fatally injured by Cain. After Hiryu subdues the crazed Strider she goes to Sheena, to tells him how happy she was that she saw him one last time before dying in his arms. As Hiryu later discovers Cain was brainwashed by the ZAIN Project, he and Cain become determined to put an end to the evil plan.

In the NES adaptation of the story, Sheena remains in the Striders' satellite base, the Blue Dragon. Once Hiryu knocks the brainwashed Cain out he asks Sheena to look over him as he proceeds to destroy the ZAIN Terminals spread across the world. Cain, however, eventually recovers and escapes her sight. Worried over his unhealed wounds, Sheena gives chase but eventually finds herself mortally wounded in the Striders HQ, apparently by Striders' de-facto leader Matic. Hiryu finds her in her last moments as Sheena asks him to get revenge against Matic.

Personality[]

Compared to the easy-going Cain, Sheena conducts herself professionally, remaining distant, silent and serious during their time at the Rebel Army meeting. She makes no comments on Cain's disrespectful attitude and says no witty remarks while fighting the Secret Police's attackers. However she would become more effusive and expressive when around Hiryu, expressing overwhelming joy at seeing Hiryu back in Kazakh.

While Hiryu thought she and Cain were an item, Sheena actually had feelings for Hiryu and kept them secret up until her death where she confesses how happy she was to see him again.

Skills and Abilities[]

Being an A-Class Strider, Sheena has considerable fighting skills, but appears to prefer firearms over using melee weapons. She handled a sub-machine gun with ease and threatened the captive chief at gunpoint with a handgun. She is fast and agile enough to move and jump across rooftops with little effort. In battle she is capable of analyzing her foes to quickly adapt a more efficient strategy.

Although a capable agent, she was neither as fast nor as strong as Hiryu and Cain, which lead to her getting killed by the latter when he was brainwashed. Also by the looks of the NES game, she seems to have fared no better against Matic.

Trivia[]

When the Famicom version was covered in magazines, she was said to have been Cain's lover, but neither the manga nor the game reflect this.
