~ Stu Pickles in The Rugrats Movie |
Stuart Louis "Stu" Pickles Jr. is one of three overarching protagonists (alongside Didi Pickles and Lou Pickles) in the Rugrats franchise and a recurring character in Rugrats All Grown Up!. He is an inventor and the father of Tommy and Dil.
He was voiced by the late Jack Riley, and Tommy Dewey and by E.G. Daily in the Rugrats episode Sour Pickles. In the Japanese dub, he was voiced by Yoshinobu Kaneko from the series, and by the late Keiji Fujiwara from the movie.
Personality[]
Stu is happily married and is very sociable. He is often Tommy Pickles's hero in the series. Like Didi and Drew, Stu tires of his father's over exaggerated stories. Also like the other parents in Rugrats, Stu is often irresponsible with his children losing track of them.
History[]
Infant Years[]
In the season 3 episode of Rugrats called Sour Pickles, it is shown what Stu's life was like as a baby. In 1959, Lou Pickles and his now deceased wife Trixie Pickles were raising Stu and his older brother Drew at Lou's repair shop. Stu and Drew often spent their time bickering much like they do as adults.
During the flashback in this episode, Stu and Drew get into an argument and eventually break one of Lou's vases. As a punishment, Lou won't allow them to finish their TV show Blocky and Oxwinkle (parody of Rocky and Bullwinkle). Like Tommy, Stu was the leader of this adventure and used a screwdriver to unlock their crib.
Adulthood[]
In his early 30s, Stu worked a normal job and met his wife Didi somewhere in Ohio. After their son Tommy was born, he and his family moved to California.
In his mid-30s, Stu became inspired to work as a freelance inventor. This was first mentioned in the final episode of season 1 Stu-Maker's Elves. The inspiration for this occupation is his infant son, whom he thought would enjoy playing with new toys created by his father. However many of his inventions fail, and is also mentioned in The Rugrats Movie when Drew mocks him over a past failed invention of his The Electric Sponge. He temporarily worked a sales job for a company called "Consolidated Lard" in the episode Stu Gets a Job.
By the time of Rugrats in Paris, Stu works in a consulting capacity with the Yamaguchi Coorporation's animatronics division, specifically in conjunction with their European Theme Park "Reptarland."
