NOTE: This article is about Stuart in Despicable Me and its prequel series, Minions. If you are looking for Stuart, Kevin and Bob together, go here.

Banana!
~ Stuart's catchphrase.

Stuart is a major character in Illumination's Despicable Me franchise, and serves as the deuteragonist of the series' prequel, Minions, and one of the three deuteragonists (alongside Kevin and Bob) of Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Stuart is the middle and egotistical companion of Kevin and Bob, who tagged along with the latter two to find a new and villainous master to serve, and the trio ended up finding Scarlet Overkill, but she eventually backstabbed and double-crossed them all and threatened to kill them, along with the rest of the tribe of minions. After she was defeated by Kevin and Gru, Stuart and the other minions tagged along with Gru. Among the trio, Stuart is the best and most reliable fighter, and is the toughest and most intimidating one.

Stuart is voiced by Pierre Coffin, who also voiced the rest of the other minions (including Kevin and Bob) in the same franchise.

Physical appearance[]

Stuart is a one-eyed, short and medium-sized minion with combed and smooth hair.

Personality[]

Stuart is mischievous, affable, intelligent and chucklesome. He is skillful at video games, alongside his fellow friend, Dave. He can also be the most sincere and innocent among the rest of minions. Despite his positive characteristics, Stuart's overall nature is being a vain and stubborn fellow, who is known to be a heavily violent and egotistic minion, and occasionally shows to be narcissistic as well. Stuart is also shown to be the kind of person who almost typically disregards advice and warnings from the surroundings by his fellow minions (including Kevin and Bob), even though he is told right from the start that there will be consequences or risk-taking problems that will potentially occur.

Further reflecting this, Stuart also seems to have a rebellious and obstreperous attitude. He is considered to be a slacker among the other Minions, preferring to chill out and play the ukulele than listen to the rules. Additionally, he was said to have traditional hunger in the film, Minions, such as when he attempted to eat Kevin and Bob when he hallucinated that the duo were bananas.

Stuart does, however, have high sense of romance, such as when he was attracted to a yellow fire hydrant in New York, assuming that it was another minion. Additionally, after Bob became king of England, he went into the pool with a heavily questionable bathing suit and kissed a pair of yellow fire hydrants that bears a strong resemblance to minions.

Biography[]

Minions[]

Throughout decades, the Minions were born from the ocean to find a master to serve, from T-Rex to Blue Coats. However, the group went through miserable and ultimate failure throughout the years. However, grief is short-lived as Kevin steps up for the entire tribe for the search of a new boss after the tribe is in peril from constant failure. Stuart was the first minion picked by Kevin to help join him on his quest to gain a new master. Stuart, though not seeking much attention to Kevin's speech, agrees to join despite lacking full knowledge and experience about what is coming ahead. Bob is then picked after him, and the trio all head out to find a new master. And halfway through, Stuart's starvation takes over to the point that he begins to hallucinate Kevin and Bob are bananas, and he passionately attempts to lick Kevin, but Kevin backs him off in disgust. However, the three realize that the trio have arrived in New York.

Once the Minions arrive in New York City, Stuart wears different costumes to rank which one the minions should wear, ranging from a peace sweater and pink pants, but Kevin and Bob both disagree, much to Stuart's irritation until the trio find three blue dungarees hanging on a washing line, in which becomes their permanent and legendary outfit. Stuart later immediately becomes distracted by a record shop that has a guitar on display, which causes Stuart to envision himself as a skilled rockstar. He follows along with the other Minions to Villain-Con, where the trio meet Scarlet Overkill and become her new henchman.

In London, Herb Overkill offers Stuart the Hypno-Hat to steal the crown from Queen Elizabeth II. During the mission, he, along with Kevin and Bob, tries to steal the crown of Queen Elizabeth II, but Bob accidentally becomes King of England, and after Bob's coronation, Stuart bathes in a jacuzzi at Buckingham Palace, and after bathing, he plays the guitar. However, Scarlet sends the three to a torture chamber. After escaping from the chamber, Stuart and his two companions arrive in the church to apologize to Scarlet, but he and Bob accidentally detach the chandelier, causing it to fall on her. Stuart failed to escape from the villains' wrath, by falling into a trap on Dumo Sumo. Later, Scarlet turns against the Minions, but Kevin manages to rescue them all.

At the end, when Queen Elizabeth II rewards the three Minions with gifts, he was first given a snow globe, which made him disappointed, but it was revealed to be Kevin's idea as a prank, much to Stuart's dismay. He is given an electric guitar after all, which he rocked for a while along with the crowd, although he breaks this and reluctantly takes the snow globe instead, even liking it. Soon, Stuart and the other Minions found a new master — an infant Gru.

Minions: The Rise of Gru[]

Stuart, alongside Kevin and Bob, introduces himself fetching Gru from school on their route to the theater to watch the film, Jaws. After the movie, the group later head at the arcade and play games, then at an ice cream shop where Gru blasts all of the passengers with his cheese ray, an as Gru is getting the ice cream, Stuart is seen licking the cheese. Stuart, along with his fellow aforementioned companions, eventually taunts people at a gym-window with the ice cream. When the group head home, the quadrio find a message from the Vicious 6, stating that Gru has been invited to have an interview with them the next day. The big day arrives, and Stuart, Kevin and Bob attempt to accompany Gru, whom the latter declines. The trio follow him regardless, distracting Otto in the process, though the latter finds them eventually. All of them hop on Gru's jetbike to escape the Vicious 6's wrath after the interview did not go well, and after Gru stole their Zodiac Stone. Unfortunately, the Minions are fired thanks to Otto, who has been entrusted with the Zodiac Stone by trading it for a pet rock.

The next day, the minions receive a call from Wild Knuckles, who has kidnapped Gru, demanding the stone as ransom. While Otto goes off to chase after a biker who has the stone as a necklace, Stuart, Kevin, and Bob head to San Francisco. The trio disguise as pilots and maneuver a plane to San Francisco, and Stuart sings "Fly Like An Eagle" while activating and clicking on buttons of the plane in a rhythm of his singing, unleashing chaos in the process. Once there, a failed attempt to rescue Gru ensues, as the trio are discovered by Wild Knuckles' goons, but are luckily saved by a former kung-fu teacher, Master Chow. She finally decides to educate the trio after pleading. Unfortunately, the teaching proved to be difficult as Stuart, Kevin and Bob leave before training can even truly finish. When infiltrating Wild Knuckles' house a second time, the Vicious 6 destroy his house and flea into Chinatown, where the trio later witness and encountered the transformed Vicious 6 tie Gru up to the hands of a clock. Belle Bottom (as a dragon) transforms the trio into harmless animals (Stuart as a chicken). When unleashing his inner beast, he pelts a bunch of eggs at serpent Nun-chuck, one of them releasing a baby minion chick, whom Stuart saves after it is eaten by Nun-chuck. Stuart, Kevin and Bob all unleash the same force Master Chow made usage of to fend off Wild Knuckles' henchmen to defend Gru from the Vicious 6 (the supersonic scream), who attempt to kill him.

The day after that, a "funeral" is held for Wild Knuckles (who is revealed to be alive), which Stuart attends. In the epilogue of the film, Stuart and the Minions, along with Gru, eventually attempt to hire Dr. Nefario (and succeeds).

Despicable Me[]

Stuart and Jerry are asked by Gru to watch over Margo, Edith, and Agnes, and to restrain them from him. Ultimately, Stuart ends up playing with the girls, throwing toilet paper around in the living room. He is also seen moaning in displeasure before cheering (when heard that is not not for them) when Gru talks briefly about bedtime, before being seen looking at photocopies of Jorge’s rear with Tom, and before being seen cheering for the girls during their performance in a ballet for Gru that involved free dancing.

Additionally, Stuart appears in the ending credits to launch John out of a cannon with Douglas.

Despicable Me 2[]

Stuart is a supporting character of Despicable Me 2, along with Dave, as the duo were asked to follow Gru. When Dave gets the call from Gru to rescue him and Lucy, Dave told Stuart that Gru and Lucy were in danger, he willingly agreed to rescue them. The duo crashed through the mall's entrance, Stuart and Dave missed over for Gru and Lucy twice. Before Eduardo (El Macho) can catch them, the two minions manage to knock him over with the car to prevent him from doing so. Afterwards, when Gru was told Lucy was kidnapped by Dr. Nefario, he picks up Dave and Stuart (who were in the middle of a video game) to rescue Lucy.

As a disguise, both Stuart and Dave were painted purple while pretending that the duo were sending Gru to imprisonment, until Dave unintentionally ruined the plan, prompting the purple minions to chase the trio until getting reverted back to their original incarnations by Dr. Nefario and the other innocent minions.

Stuart later appears during the credits promoting the spin-off movie, Minions, along with his friends, Kevin and Bob.

Despicable Me 3[]

Stuart first appears while protesting against Gru for falling from villainy, along with Kevin, Mel and Jerry. Next, after his departure from Gru with the other minions, he was in the rain with Mel, Kevin, Tom, Mark and Carl, and was blowing raspberry at Fritz because the latter was seeking for Gru, knowing that he and the minions are still enraged at him for defecting villainy.

Afterwards, Stuart and the Minions are starving while walking. Realizing this, Stuart calls out to Mel that the group are starving. Mel then finds pizza, which leads to them getting imprisoned after making the mistake of chasing the pizza-man; Stuart also appears in the State Prison, as among the Minions in the shower, Stuart is the one who hits another one of the prisoners with a Towel. Finally, Stuart was seen playing the guitar on the lower row of the plane sitting on Kevin, which the minions made to escape the State Prison.

Despicable Me 4[]

Stuart becomes an official agent of the AVL, and he was seen placing marshmallows in his coffee when he was having lunch with Kevin next to him, and when Kevin made Mega Jerry open his drink for him. Stuart was seen spitting coffee on another minion (potentially Benny) and laughing at him in return.

Near the film's ending, Stuart was celebrating in Gru’s backyard with his fellow brothers, Kevin and Bob, by playing "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" through his guitar. In the credits, he is seen shooting LED Pegs with his toy, titled the LED Peg Shooter, though he flees from Mega Jerry at one point he performs this. Finally, he is seen when Mega Gus is sleeping in the credits, as Stuart desired to play a prank on him by waking him up by shooting him with his toy gun, and then he laughs at him and runs off.
