Sue Ellen Crandell is the main protagonist of the 1991 movie, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. She has a twin brother named Kenny, two younger brothers named Zach and Walter, and a younger sister named Melissa.

She was portrayed by Christina Applegate, who also voiced Brittany in the Alvin and the Chipmunks live-action movies and Catherine in Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and portrayed Kelly Bundy in Married... With Children and Veronica Corningstone in the Anchorman duology.

Biography[]

Sue Ellen is a 17 year-old high school graduate who lives in Los Angeles, with her divorced mother and 4 siblings; brothers Kenny, Zach, and Walter, and sister Melissa. During the summer, she wanted to attend a trip to Europe with friends, but due to her family being low on money, she can't go to Europe. However, Sue Ellen is relieved that her mother is going to Australia for the summer with her boyfriend and later she expresses to her friends how she can enjoy her freedom all summer along, such as staying out late as she wants. However, her happiness is cut short when she learns her mother hired a babysitter, an elderly lady named Mrs. Sturak. Although Mrs. Sturak seems like a nice lady to Sue Ellen's mother, she soon reveals herself to be a cruel unfair control-freak and starts bossing Sue Ellen and her siblings around. She tells Sue Ellen that she will make her summer a living hell, but does allow her to smoke. One night, Sue Ellen's siblings go into her room and tell her that they're fed up with Mrs. Sturak's tyrannical ways and ask Sue Ellen to stand up to her and make her stop bossing them around, which she agrees to do.

Trivia[]

  • Sue Ellen being the eldest sibling is ironic because Christina Applegate, who portrays her, is actually younger than Keith Coogan, who portrays her younger twin brother Kenny.
