Heroine Overview

I am a warrior, but I'm a girl too.
~ Suki to Sokka after she kissed him.

Suki is a major protagonist in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. She resides on Kyoshi Island, home of the legendary Avatar Kyoshi as well leader of her own group called the Kyoshi warriors (who are based on the legendary Avatar Kyoshi). Suki is also the girlfriend of Sokka.

Following her first meeting with Avatar and company, Suki and the other Kyoshi Warriors decide to take part in the ongoing 100-year war after Zuko attacked her island in search of Aang. Since then, she and her team made later recurring appearances. Despite not having any bending capability, Suki is still a formidable warrior. Her weapons are Japanese fans, a sword, and a shield.

In Book 3: Fire, it was revealed Suki was imprisoned in the Boiling Rock prison following her defeat at the hands of Azula but was also eventually rescued by Sokka and Zuko. Afterwards Suki joined Team Avatar as a full member and resumed her romantic relationship with Sokka.

Suki is voiced by Jennie Kwan who also voices Chun-Li in Street Fighter 6.

Personality

Self-confident and tough, Suki mocked Sokka because of his chauvinist attitude.

Befitting her status as leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, Suki was tough, assertive, and not afraid to speak her mind; but at the same time, she had a compassionate and loyal spirit. Her softer side was frequently demonstrated in the presence of Sokka. For a long time during her imprisonment, Suki held out the hope of seeing Sokka again and showed no sign of breaking in the face of Azula's torments pertaining to Sokka. She also had a mild tendency to hold grudges, demonstrated by her initially treating Zuko coldly when they met in prison, and also readily looking forward to a rematch with Azula and Ty Lee. A woman of action, she quickly and skillfully captured the prison warden, an action which prompted approval from Hakoda.

Biography

Suki makes her debut when Team Avatar visit Kyoshi Island. They are captured by the Kyoshi Warriors. After they find out that Aang is the Avatar, they welcome him. Eventually, Sokka goes to Suki and the other Kyoshi Warriors and asks Suki to train him in the ways of the warrior. Suki accepts him as her student, and makes him wear the traditional Kyoshi Warrior outfit. After training, Kyoshi Island is attacked by Prince Zuko and his soldiers. After a bit of fighting, Sokka and Suki share an intimate moment, and then continue fighting. Sokka then leaves, and Suki isn't seen for a while.

In the second season, Suki is seen without her make-up, she and the other Kyoshi Warriors assisting the refuges. She then assists the Gaang in crossing the Serpant's Pass, and she and Sokka kiss. Later, she and the Kyoshi Warriors find Appa and clean and feed him. They are then attacked by Ozai's Angels, who do manage to out match them.

Suki's fate is revealed in "The Day of Black Sun: Part 2", where Princess Azula tells Sokka that she enjoyed hearing Suki screaming his name.

When Zuko and Sokka recently invaded the Boiling Rock prison, they found Suki there. When Sokka went to visit her in her cell, she mistakenly punched him in the gut hen he tried to kiss her, but then when she realizes who he is, they hug. She, Sokka, Chit Sang and Zuko begin planning an escape plan. They are about to escape in a cooler that stops heat, but Sokka hears the possibility that his father is arriving at the prison, and Sokka, Suki and Zuko stay.

When they finally see Hakoda, they all begin to devise a new plan. The plan is that they take the gondola that the guards use to bring prisoners in to escape, and use a hostage to make sure they don't cut the line. To do this they had to start a distraction, which a recaptured Chit Sang manages to do. But, the gang don't know how to capture their hostage (the Warden), but as Zuko and Sokka fight about this, Suki puts her own plan into action. She jumps on the heads of the rioting prisoners, scales a wall back flips onto a floor above using her feet, disables several guards, scales another wall, disables several other guards, and captures the Warden, all without tiring (the males slowly catch up, tired). They begin to escape in the gondola, but are chased by Azula and Ty lee, and Suki mentions that she's been waiting for this re-match. When the two pursuers catch up, Suki battles Ty Lee, and after an evenly matched fight, the two villains bail as the prison guards begin to cut the gondola line. Luckily, the guards are defeated by Mai, and Suki escapes with the others.

As of Imbalance Part Two, Suki has rejoined Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph in Cranefish Town. She went in disguise and assisted them on a mission to spy on a secret rally being held in the old mines and hosted by Liling. The rally involved benders claiming they were superior to non-benders and wanted to take back what they felt was rightfully theirs and start a war between them. Things got out of hand and a fight ensued. Suki was quick to action and ended up chi-blocking Liling and her corrupt daughter Yaling putting the fight to a stop. Having captured Liling the gang is now debating on what to do with her. Toph suggested Aang make an example of her and take away her bending.

In Imbalance Part Three, The next morning, Satoru runs towards the Gaangshouting that the business council was under attack. Aang and Katara put out the fires and Toph goes to save her dad. Meanwhile, Yaling and her army of bender supremacists confront Suki and Sokka and several other non-bender guards. Knowing Suki is a threat, Yaling commands her followers to target her first, since she is a chi-blocker. A fight ensues but eventually Yaling manages to get past them and rescue her mom who was being held captive in the factory. After this, Suki decides to teach Lao’s security guards how to chi-block, so they can better defend themselves against the benders. She doesn't have time to fully train them, but she is confident they can get the basics down. Later that evening, Suki and Sokka spot Ru, a non bender whose mother is Liling and sister is Yaling. They get her to open up to them and she reveals her mothers’ plan of attack against Earthen Fire Industries. She urges them to leave Cranefish Town. Suki and Sokka refuse and say the will be ready for it. Ru then asks Suki to teach her how to chi-block. The next day, the Gaang was prepared for battle. In a surprise attack held in a metal maze created by Toph, Suki is revealed with her newly trained chi-blocking army and this time they are successful in taking down the bender supremacists. After the battle, Aang asks Suki and the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors to stay in Cranefish town to keep it safe and to continue training the non-bender police force. Suki happily agrees.

Abilities

Suki Wallcrawl

Suki scales a wall through sheer human agility in The Boiling Rock part 2

Despite not being a bender, Suki was more than capable of handling herself in a fight. She was the last warrior to be captured by Azula, showing the extent of her skill. She was an impressive hand-to-hand combatant, using a style reminiscent of Aikido, as well as fighting with traditional Kyoshi war fans, a style reminiscent of Tessenjutsu, and skilled with the katana. She could hold her own against other skilled fighters, such as Ty Lee, readily avoiding her disabling pressure point strikes, and was a good teacher, passing some of her fighting methods on to Sokka. She also possessed considerable physical strength, able to swim easily in full Kyoshi Warrior armor and toss aside a full grown man with ease. During the breakout of the Boiling Rock, she bypassed a full-scale riot by jumping across the tops of the rioters' heads, scaled the vertical face of a building, demonstrating a skill set similar to that found in parkour, and an acrobatic skill comparable to that of Ty Lee. Following the Hundred Year War, Suki learned chi blocking from Ty Lee. She demonstrated the skill for the first time on San.
