Heroine Overview

If you run you gain one, but if you move forward, you gain two.
~ Suletta's personal mantra
What's wrong with you? Didn't your mother ever teach you manners? You can't act like that, you hear me!?
~ Suletta chastising Guel for his behavior towards Miorine.

Suletta Mercury is the titular main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, the fifteenth mainline installment in Sunrise's long-running Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.

She is a 17-year-old female Spacian and a second-year transfer student from the planet Mercury studying at the Asticassia School of Technology in the piloting department.

She is voiced by Kana Ichinose in Japanese and by Jill Harris in English, who both voices Fern in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Ichinose has also voiced Ichigo from Darling in the Franxx, Yuzuriha Ogawa from Dr. Stone, and Suzu Kanade from Ayakashi Triangle, while Harris has voiced Charlie Morningstar in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel, Mandalay from My Hero Academia, Noelle Silva from Black Clover and Yuzuriha from Hell's Paradise.

Appearance[]

Suletta is a dark skinned young girl with medium-length red hair, blue eyes and thick eyebrows. She is usually seen wearing a headband on her head and her hair is tied in a low ponytail. Notably, Suletta has a taller stature than most of the girls at her school.

Personality[]

Suletta Mercury is an extremely shy yet good-hearted girl who has trouble communicating with people other than her mother. Her timid behavior leaves her stuttering mess around others. Whenever she gets nervous or scared, Suletta tends to cross her arms over her chest with her hands by her face in a defensive manner. However, she remains upbeat and optimistic in her daily life and interactions with others.

Despite her timidness, Suletta has displayed a strong sense of justice and fierce determination, as shown in her willingness to duel Guel Jeturk over his behavior towards Miorine Rembran, as well her unwillingness to flee during the duel. She also honorable and respects people who show courage in going forward rather than running away, even viewing the act of laughing at someone like that as unacceptable. She is also willing to defend others when she belives that they are unjustly criticized or mocked as she was the only one to speak up in Miorine's defense when members of the Earth House believed that she abandoned them.

She has a near pathological need to be useful and relies on the apporval of others to make herself feel validated and wanted. This stems from her upbringing on Mercury where she would often be called on to save those who ended up in trouble due to the hazardous work environment, as she was the best pilot around, as well as Prospera's neglectful parenting strategies impressing upon her that she's only valued for what she can do for people. Suletta's main goal is to build a school on Mercury to attract younger people to the planet, as she sees this as a way to help the miners on her planet. However, her trusting and naivety leaves her vulnerable to people with manipulative intentions (e.g. Prospera), and will often fail to realize their ulterior motives until its too late.

Additionally, Suletta deeply loves her mother and is very dependent on her. She often confides in Prospera about her personal issues and ask for her guidance, calling her as a "magician" that helps move forward. She is also close to the Aerial, viewing it as a younger sibling rather than a mobile suit. However, Suletta's love for Prospera can also be seen as blind obedience as she will follow her mother's command without question, regardless of whatever moral quandaries might be present, to the point where she would even give up on her own dream and aspirations if her mother were to tell her so.

One of Suletta's most notable traits is her motto, "If you move forward you gain two, if you run you gain one", which compels her to act more assertive and keep pushing through her challenges. Because of this, Suletta becomes more decisive and collected in emergency situations, especially if it involves piloting the Aerial or rescuing others from danger. After being convinced it's the right thing to do by her mother, Suletta becomes disturbingly okay with killing people, and happily jokes around about her clumsiness while covered in an enemy's blood. However, it is soon made clear that she doesn't enjoy killing people and would much rather find another way to resolve problems. When Miorine confronts her over her actions and bluntly asks if Suletta would be fine killing people if it's what her mother wanted, Suletta says yes after some hesitation, clearly holding back her true feelings on the matter in favor of her mother's philosophy and approval.

After being abandonded by Miorine and later Prospera and Ericht, Suletta falls into a deep depression which is only cured by the support from the Earth House. Following the Asticassia Massacre, Suletta begins to realize the error of her ways by seeing the carnage that surrounded her. Afterward, she takes more initiative by actively aiding those in need, finding purpose in helping others of her own volition. In addition to this, after reflecting on her toxic relationship with her mother, Suletta actively admits that her "things to do" list was influenced by Prospera more than it was made of her own volition, and she becomes a lot firmer in making it clear when she's choosing to do things because she wants to do them, not because she was told to. Suletta even devlops her own motto: "Even if there's nothing to gain, I have to move forward". This change signifies that she's intent on finding her own way in life now, and no longer intends to be beholden to Prospera's manipulations.
