“ | (2/18 MY BIRTHDAY): Sunny playing a video game on the couch. Sunny is a little shy, but he's a really good listener. I always end up venting to him when I get upset or stressed. Sometimes I feel like I'm bothering him, but he never seems to mind. | „ |

“ | I have to tell you something. | „ |
~ Sunny, ready to admit the truth to his friends. Also one of his two spoken lines in the game. |
Sunny is the main protagonist of the Omori franchise.
He is a stoic Hikikomori, withdrawn from society and finding solace in the confines of his mother's house. His days are spent in solitude, navigating a world of virtual realities and digital landscapes, his only connection to the outside world being through the screen of his computer. Yet, within the realm of his mind, he is a force to be reckoned with, harboring thoughts and emotions that run deep beneath his seemingly impassive exterior.
As the days count down to his departure from Faraway Town, the weight of the impending change hangs heavy in the air. Each passing moment brings him closer to a future unknown, a path he must forge on his own terms. Yet, despite the uncertainty, there is a quiet resolve within him, a determination to confront the world beyond the safety of his home.
Controlled by the player, he becomes a vessel for their desires and decisions, his actions shaped by their whims and desires. In the light of day, he moves through the routines of his existence, a silent observer of the world around him. But as night falls and sleep eludes him, he is thrust into moments of introspection and exploration, his mind wandering through the corridors of his consciousness.
In this virtual landscape, he is nameless, a blank canvas upon which the player can project their own identity. His journey is theirs to mold, his fate intertwined with the choices they make. And as he prepares to leave behind the familiar confines of Faraway Town, he carries with him the memories of a life lived in isolation, and the hope of a future yet to unfold.
Appearance[]
SUNNY appears to be your typical teenager, sporting a youthful look. His hair, which is sleek and black, falls just above his ears and is complimented by a stylish fringe that delicately drapes over his eyes. Adding to his overall charm are his beautifully arched eyebrows that perfectly frame his eyes. Speaking of his eyes, they captivate with their deep, dark shade of black, creating a striking contrast against his fair complexion.
Currently, he is dressed in a crisp white button-up shirt paired with a sleek black vest. His attire is completed with beige shorts, white socks, and black shoes. His complexion appears pale and his frame slender, indicating potential malnutrition stemming from a prolonged period of isolation lasting four years.
Personality[]
Throughout his childhood and the events of the game, Sunny is characterized by his extreme shyness and quiet demeanor. He rarely speaks and is not known to smile often. Despite his reserved nature, it is clear that he values his friendships deeply, as evidenced by his cherished memories of time spent with his friends in MEMORY LANE and the LOST LIBRARY. Many characters in the game, including Basil and Audrey, praise Sunny for his attentive listening skills, describing him as a "really good listener" who is always willing to lend an ear. Additionally, Hero notes that Sunny possesses an exceptional memory, further highlighting his unique qualities.
Sunny's struggle with self-confidence and self-worth is evident as he constantly battles with feelings of inadequacy. He views himself as powerless, lacking value, and perpetually falling short of expectations. Being the youngest in his friend group, he often relies on others for support and assistance, yet he carries an immense burden of guilt as he believes he contributes nothing in return. These feelings of worthlessness were present even before the tragic passing of MARI, but they spiraled to new depths afterwards, potentially pushing Sunny to the brink of contemplating suicide in certain endings.
Even though Sunny may seem calm on the surface, he harbors a deep-seated anger that can be triggered by even the smallest annoyances, such as the pesky houseflies at OTHERMART. However, his frustration extends far beyond just minor inconveniences to more substantial issues, like his growing resentment towards his violin. This simmering anger eventually reaches a boiling point, culminating in a heated argument with MARI after he impulsively hurls his beloved instrument down the staircase in a fit of rage.
Sunny has always possessed an incredibly active imagination, constantly indulging in toys and video games that transport him to fantastical worlds. In these make-believe realms, he easily loses himself, immersing in vivid daydreams that provide an escape from reality. Unfortunately, everything changed after the tragic demise of Mari. The once harmless daydreams evolved into something much more profound and intense, transforming into a complete mental refuge known as HEADSPACE. Overwhelmed by fear and unable to confront the painful truth, Sunny sought solace in this alternate reality, desperately avoiding the harsh realities of life.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Sunny was born on July 20th in Faraway Town to unnamed parents. He had an older sister named Mari which he shared a room with.
Both Sunny and his sister, Mari, became friends with their neighbors Kel and Hero. They then quickly became friends with Aubrey, who would introduce both of them to her friend Basil. Basil loved to take photos of everyone and kept a photo album which was his prized possession. The 6 friends were very close and played frequently together at the park, Sunny's house, and at the treehouse that they had all made together.
During one Christmas, Sunny would receive a gift; a violin that all of his friends had worked hard to buy for him. He would play it alongside Mari, who played piano. Mari continued to push Sunny to practice hard, with Sunny eventually becoming angry and throwing his violin down the stairs. Mari, angry, began yelling at him, blocking the way to the staircase. Sunny, frustrated and angry, pushed her down the stairs, leading to her death. He waited for Mari to wake up, but upon her not doing so, he starts having a mental breakdown when he noticed that she was really dead. Basil, the person Sunny was closest with, got the idea to cover the murder up by hanging her from a tree in their backyard. Upon doing so, both boys looked back at Mari's corpse. Her hair was covering most of her face, say for a single eye staring back at them. Leading to the "birth" of a shadowy entity that would go on to torment both Sunny and Basil.
His father would soon leave, and Sunny would drop out of school and create an alter ego of himself named Omori, which he would visit Headspace in his dreams as, and White Space, a seemingly endless white void to block out the memories and eventually make him believe Mari had truly committed suicide.
4 years later[]
Four years after his sister's tragic demise, Sunny finds himself still trapped in the shadow of memories that refuse to fade. Each day feels like a relentless battle against the haunting echoes of loss. His mother, sensing the weight of their shared grief, makes the difficult decision to uproot their lives from Faraway Town, seeking solace and a fresh start elsewhere.
Before moving away, however, one of Sunny's old friends, Kel, would knock on the door and ask to hang out with Sunny one last time. Sunny chooses to go with Kel and hang out with him, and as both of them travel around Faraway Town, they encounter Basil being harassed by their former friend, Aubrey. Sunny and Kel would both fight Aubrey, potentially resulting in Sunny attacking her with his knife and Kel taking it away either way. Basil then tells both of them that he had lost something important to him: his photo album containing all of the photos of him and his friends, as it was stolen by Aubrey. Sunny and Kel would both help Basil get it back, and asked the Hooligans, a gang of teenagers that Aubrey was the leader of, where she was. Eventually, Kim, the member of the Hooligans Aubrey was closest with, would reveal that she was at the church. Both Sunny and Kel confront her at the church, leading to the three all fighting. After their fight, Aubrey would storm off from the church, discarding the photo album. Sunny and Kel would pick it up, and go to Basil's house to give it back to him.
Amidst the turmoil, Sunny's closest friends remain a beacon of support. Basil, ever the gentle soul, finds solace in revisiting cherished memories, thumbing through the pages of a photo album with Sunny and Kel. However, the tranquility is disrupted when Kel drops the bombshell that Sunny will soon depart. Basil's facade of happiness crumbles, his distress palpable as he retreats to the bathroom, seeking refuge from the sudden upheaval.
On the second day, Kel and Sunny hang out again while they wait for his brother, Hero, to come back home from college. While walking in the park, they would hear Basil crying for help. They would find Basil at the old hangout spot, once again being harassed by Aubrey along with the other Hooligans. After fighting all of them at once, the other Hooligans would leave, leaving Kel, Basil, Sunny and Aubrey alone in the hangout spot. During this, Aubrey would push Basil into the lake, resulting in Sunny trying to save him but failing. Fortunately, Hero arrived just in time to save Basil and Sunny, bringing Basil back to his home. Hero and Kel decided to have a sleepover with Sunny one last time before he moved away.
On the final day, Sunny, Kel, and Hero all visit Aubrey, and help her realize the fault of her actions. She goes along with them to help Basil, who has been inside of his room all day and hasn't come out. Polly allows them to have a sleepover at their house, and they soon fall asleep. Sunny suddenly appears in White Space, separate from Omori. After looking around for a bit, Sunny smashes the lightbulb, the repression of an idea.
Suddenly, Sunny finds himself in a dark room with only a single large light from an unknown source. Something appears from the darkness and attacks Sunny. All the phobias Sunny had previously overcame return to haunt him over the course of this fight, but Sunny manages to push through them again. Eventually, Sunny stumbles upon a horrific sight: Mari's hanging corpse. he slowly starts to succumb to Something, but manages to overcome the being's grasp on him. Sunny steps into the light, and the room disappears into a bright light.
Through a series of black-and-white photos in disturbing areas, Sunny finally figures out what really happened the day Mari died. Suddenly awoken after uncovering this horrific event, Sunny enters Basil's room to try and save him. Basil, believing there is nothing either of them could do to escape their guilt, decides to kill both himself and Sunny, leading to both fighting. Basil would eventually strike at Sunny's eye resulting in both of them fainting, being taken to the hospital.
Sunny, now unconscious, would enter his most cherished memories before finding a stage and younger versions of Aubrey, Kel, and Hero, who all give words of encouragement. After this, Sunny gets onto the stage to briefly play his violin. He suddenly appears in White Space again, and meets up with his alter-ego, Omori, resulting in him fighting against him. Omori would defeat Sunny, but Sunny would choose to get up and persist, leading to him playing the duet that he would have played with his sister four years ago. After this, Omori would fade away, and Sunny would wake up in the hospital.
Sunny, torn between his own turmoil and the desire to comfort his friend, attempts to reach out to Basil but finds himself unable to bridge the growing chasm between them. In a heart-wrenching moment, he reluctantly leaves Basil to grapple with his emotions alone, retreating to the confines of his own home, weighed down by guilt and sorrow.
The scene shifts to the sterile surroundings of the hospital, where Sunny stands before Basil's bedside, flanked by Hero, Kel, and Aubrey. Amidst a somber silence, he finally finds the strength to unveil the truth shrouding Mari's untimely demise, laying bare the painful reality that has long tormented them all.
As the narrative unfolds, a poignant cutscene offers a glimpse beyond the confines of the story's resolution. In a bittersweet farewell, both Sunny and Basil's "Somethings" - tangible manifestations of their inner struggles and memories - gradually fade into the ether, symbolizing their eventual acceptance and release from the burdens of the past.
Alternate Routes[]
In the game's "Omori Route," Sunny's pivotal decision not to answer the door for Kel on either Three or Two Days Left serves as a poignant moment symbolizing his increasing withdrawal from the world. By shunning Kel's attempts at connection, Sunny plunges deeper into isolation, creating fertile ground for Omori's insidious influence to take root. Omori's gradual takeover of Sunny's body and mind becomes more apparent, casting a sinister shadow over Sunny's fate. This path ultimately culminates in a haunting conclusion where Omori, having seemingly consumed Sunny's identity, drives him towards a tragic demise, whether through self-imposed exile or even self-inflicted harm.
Moreover, in the True Route, another crucial decision point emerges when Sunny can opt not to intervene and save Basil from his own despair. By succumbing to the temptation to remain in slumber or evade confronting Basil's anguish, Sunny inadvertently becomes complicit in his friend's tragic fate. Basil's eventual suicide, driven by overwhelming guilt and despair, serves as a harrowing consequence of Sunny's inaction. The discovery of Basil's lifeless body, alongside the shock and grief of his friends, serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of avoidance and denial.
These divergent paths paint Sunny in a starkly different light, depicting him as drastically less heroic due to his choices to forsake his friends and evade confronting the painful truths of his past. Whether it's through neglecting to save Basil, avoiding confronting his own culpability in Mari's death, or surrendering to Omori's influence, Sunny's decisions ultimately lead to darker outcomes, underscoring the profound impact of choice and consequence within the game's narrative framework.
Powers/Skills[]
Sunny possesses a remarkable ability for quick thinking and strategic analysis, often demonstrating his prowess in solving intricate puzzles and devising cunning strategies. His mind is a powerful asset, enabling him to outmaneuver adversaries and emerge victorious in confrontations through sheer intellect. One notable instance of this is when he ingeniously overcame a group of Hooligans by utilizing pepper spray in tandem with his friend Kel, effectively neutralizing the threat without resorting to physical altercation.
However, despite his formidable mental acumen, Sunny's physical condition paints a starkly contrasting picture. Years of malnutrition coupled with the psychological toll of trauma and depression have taken a significant toll on his health. As a result, he bears the visible signs of his hardships, appearing markedly underweight and pallid even when compared to peers of his age. His prolonged seclusion indoors, stemming from his struggles with trauma and depression, has stunted his physical growth, leaving him notably shorter and weaker than he might otherwise have been.
Though Sunny's intellect shines brightly as a beacon of his capabilities, his physical frailty serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges he has endured. Despite this, his determination and resourcefulness continue to drive him forward, proving that strength of character can often outweigh physical prowess.
