Simon is the titular protagonist of the French preschool TV series Simon. He is an anthropomorphic rabbit boy who is a superhero named Super Rabbit and the leader of the Super Rabbit Gang in his imagination. As Super Rabbit, he is the archenemy of Professor Wolf.

Appearance[]

Simon, like most characters in the series, is a white anthropomorphic rabbit. He wears a red sweater and blue pants.

As Super Rabbit, he wears the same outfit, but adds a blue cape and a blue mask around his eyes.

Personality[]

Simon is described on the show's official website as energetic, creative and very smart, an initiative-taker, self-willed and occasionally stubborn.[2] Despite often claiming that "Super Rabbit is afraid of nothing!", he is prone to common childhood fears such as the hospital, the dentist, and swimming pools.

Relationships[]

Friends/allies[]

Gaspard/Captain Rabbit[]

Gaspard is Simon's ½/3-year-old little brother. He admires Simon and tends to copy him, much to Simon's irritation. Despite this, Simon loves his little brother and usually has no problem playing with him. Gaspard is part of the Super Rabbit Gang as Super Rabbit's sidekick, Captain Rabbit.

Ferdinand/Super Ferdi[]

Ferdinand is Simon's next-door neighbor and best friend whom he loves playing games with, although they can get rather competitive with each other. Ferdinand is part of the Super Rabbit Gang as Super Ferdi.

Lou/Super Lou[]

Lou is a classmate of Simon whom he's good friends with, but according to the official website, he also has a big crush on her; this is hinted at in the show proper via Simon sometimes blushing/acting bashful around her, including when she kisses him on the cheek in one episode. Lou is part of the Super Rabbit Gang as Super Lou.

Mary[]

Mary is a young girl Simon met while playing on the beach. At first, she was mean to Simon, claiming that two pools of water on the beach belonged to her, and challenging Simon to dares for ownership of them, and later the entire beach. However, after Simon helped her clean up after she got sand on her knees during her last dare (a race), they became friends, with Mary admitting that Simon is "nice."

Bonnie/Super Nini[]

Starting in season 5, Professor Wolf's cousin Bonnie occasionally assists Simon and the Super Rabbit Gang as Super Nini, as she is not fond of her cousin's evil antics.

Elvis[]

Elvis is the pet dog of Simon and Gaspard's maternal grandparents, who enjoys playing "Catch" with Simon and Gaspard whenever they visit. Simon and Gaspard were once afraid of him due to mistaking him for a ferocious dragon under the bed.

Enemies[]

Professor Wolf[]

Professor Wolfie Wolf is a villain who is the archenemy of the Super Rabbit Gang, and by extension, Super Rabbit himself. Despite this, Simon and the rest of the Super Rabbit Gang have been willing to help him on occasion, such as when he was afraid of the dark, although this usually results in him betraying them in the end.

Mega Bobot[]

Mega Bobot is a creation and minion of Professor Wolf, and thus, an enemy of the Simon and the Super Rabbit Gang. When Mega Bobot falls into the ocean and short-circuits in the episode "Watch Out, Jellyfish About!", Simon does not seem to care at all.

Mega Mimi[]

Mega Mimi is a creation and minion of Professor Wolf, and thus, an enemy of Simon and the Super Rabbit Gang. When Mega Mimi accidentally ties herself up with her own extendable arms in one episode, Simon triumphantly tells her it serves her right.

Mega Birdie[]

Mega Birdie was an avian robot created by Professor Wolf who stole seeds from Simon and Gaspard in one episode. He was ultimately destroyed by Captain Rabbit at the end of the episode, and Super Rabbit did not seem to mind any.

Family[]

Andre and Eva[]

Simon has a good relationship with his parents Andre and Eva, as he and Gaspard enjoy going on family outings with them. Andre and Eva are also amused by Simon and Gaspard's imaginary superhero adventures.

Arthur and Irène[]

Simon gets along well with his maternal grandparents Arthur and Irène, as he and Gaspard always have fun with them whenever them whenever they visit them, even though their grandkids don't always listen to them.

Milou[]

Milou is Simon, Gaspard, and their parents' pet cat, who loves all of them very much.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Expert pilot: Super Rabbit can pilot his primary mode of transportation, the Mega Spaceship, with ease.

Gadgets[]

Much like Batman, most of Super Rabbit's "superpowers" come from various high-tech gadgets that he uses.

  • Mega Watch: Super Rabbit wears a special, high-tech watch that allows him to initiate his transformation sequence and summon his primary mode of transportation, the Mega Spaceship.
  • Mega Spaceship: The Mega Spaceship is a super fast spaceship that is Super Rabbit's primary mode of transportation.
  • Hydroloo Pistol: The Hydroloo Pistol is a multi-function pistol capable of firing blasts of water, ice, and even ropes. While underwater, it can also generate vortexes.
  • Mega Binoculars: Super Rabbit has a pair of Mega Binoculars that allow him to see across vast distances. Presumably, they are more effective than regular binoculars.

History[]

Prior to the TV show, Simon debuted as the protagonist of the French 2002 picture book Poo Bum by Stéphanie Blake[3], which focused on him constantly repeating the book's titular term. In the 2011 picture book I Can't Sleep!, he revealed his secret identity as Super Rabbit to his little brother, Gaspard (or Casper, as he is named in that book), for the first time.

In the first three seasons of the show, Simon's alter-ego of Super Rabbit wasn't a major focus of the show, with the show being mostly standard preschool slice-of-life fare. But from season 4 onward, the show started including episodes with extended superhero imagination sequences, complete with transformation sequences, a superhero team including Simon's friends and little brother, and an archenemy in the form of the villain Professor Wolf. In accordance with these changes, the show was renamed Simon Super Rabbit.
