Hero Overview

Is it that hard to believe that some people just want to help?
~ Superman to Dr. Ivo in "Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say".
Lois: How'd you know you'd be bulletproof?
Clark : I didn't, I just knew that you weren't.
~ Clark, after jumping in front of lasers to protect Lois Lane.

Kal-El (also known as Clark Joseph Kent on Earth), better known as Superman, is the titular main protagonist of the 2023 animated superhero television series My Adventures with Superman.

He is a Kryptonian refugee who was raised on Earth as a human by the Kent family in Smallville, Kansas. After he discovered his powers and learned of his alien origins, he vowed to protect Earth and its people, becoming a superhero as a result.

He is the boyfriend of Lois Lane and best friend of Jimmy Olsen. He is also the cousin of Kara Zor-El/Kara Kent/Supergirl, who was revealed to be the only other survivor of Krypton's destruction.

He is voiced by Jack Quaid, known for his most popular role as Hughie Campbell in The Boys television series, Nathan Caine in Novocaine, and also voiced Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Appearance[]

Kal-El is a tall, powerfully muscular built young man with a towering height and herculean physique. He has jet black hair and blue eyes. As Clark Kent, he wears a pair of glasses and normal clothes consisting of a beige pullover, with a white dress shirt and a blue tie underneath, black pants and light brown loafers. Lois calls him beautiful. As Superman, he wears and outfit that is famously associated with the hero; a blue bodysuit sporting the crest of House El on the chest which is the Kryptonian symbol for hope with a red cape. After he's released from Brainiac's control, his suit is transformed into a sleeker design. It loses the red shorts, gains shoulder pads, yellow lining around the chest, the red boots going up to his knees with the tips also having yellow lining, a gold belt buckle in the shape of his crest, the sleeves now having a single finger hold and on the back of the hand are covered in yellow markings also in the shape of his family crest.

Personality[]

The archetypical superhero, Superman's personality is a shining example of virtue, morality, justice and heroism. Guided by an unwavering moral code, he embodies compassion, humility, and selflessness. With his god-like powers, he shows empathy towards others, dedicating himself to the protection of humanity and the pursuit of justice. Despite his extraordinary abilities, he remains modest and self-effacing, never seeking recognition or glory for his actions. Superman's optimistic outlook on life inspires hope in everyone around him, and his strong sense of responsibility ensures he uses his powers for the greater good, always putting others' well-being before his own. Whether facing insurmountable challenges or standing firm against adversity, Superman's resolute determination remains an unwavering force for good in the world.

As an eternal optimist, he believes in the innate goodness of humanity and constantly strives to bring out the best in people. Whether as Clark Kent, the mild-mannered reporter, or Superman, the Man of Steel, he continues to be a beacon of light, reminding us all of the power of compassion, integrity, and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Kryptonian Physiology: Like any and or all Kryptonians, charged with yellow sunlight, Clarks possesses various superhuman attributes and abilities.
    • Solar Energy Absorption: Clark's powers depend on absorbing yellow sun radiation, stored within his unique Kryptonian biology for later use.
    • Superhuman Strength: His strength is enhanced by solar radiation, allowing him to perform incredible feats with his sheer willpower.
    • Superhuman Speed: Clark can move at incredible speeds, including heightened agility and reflexes.
    • Invulnerability: His dense molecular structure and bio-electric aura make him nearly impervious to energy forces, toxins, and diseases.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Clark can perform strenuous activities indefinitely, powered by the direct conversion of yellow solar radiation into energy.
    • Super-Hearing: Clark possesses highly sensitive hearing, capable of detecting sounds at any volume or frequency. He can focus on specific sources by filtering out ambient noise.
    • Flight: By manipulating graviton particles, Clark can defy gravity and move freely in any direction.
  • Enhanced Vision:
    • Heat Vision: Clark can emit intense heat beams from his eyes, with control over their intensity and area of effect.
    • X-Ray Vision: He can see through most matter except lead and can focus this ability to observe hidden details or inner workings.
  • Super-Breath: He can generate hurricane-force winds, freeze targets by chilling exhaled air, or inhale large volumes of air or vapor.
  • Accelerated Healing: After the Kryptonite blast from Leader Lois had worn off, Superman quickly recovered.
  • Oxygen Independence: As he learned from Kara, Superman can breathe in space for a seemingly infinite amount of time.
  • Bio-Electric Aura: Superman possesses an ability to generate a bio-electric aura that envelops his body and anything he's touching, providing a protective shield against attacks and even containment of powerful energy sources like the Amertek fusion core. This aura flares up whenever he activates his powers, manifesting as glowing blue eyes and electric sparks crackling around his body.
    • Electricity Reflection: While his aura is active, Superman can reflect electrical attacks, such as he did when Livewire attacked him.
    • Energy Containment: Superman uses his aura to contain power energy sources. Like the Amertek fusion core before it explodes.
    • Electromagnetic Pulse Emission: Superman can emanate his bio-electric aura and unleash it into an electromagnetic pulse that disrupts technology. As he did against an android Thanagarian to mess up its holographic projection.
  • Longevity: Under the influence of a yellow sun, Clark ages more slowly, remaining in his prime for an extended lifespan.
  • Skilled Combatant: Superman is a strong and powerful combatant, having used his godly powers to combat and overwhelm criminals and supervillains, despite not being trained or skilled in different series of fighting skills (except for his cousin). Despite this, Superman is proven himself much of a powerful fighter, having been able to defeat giant robots, overpower Intergang, defeating Task Force X in a single hand (despite being outnumbered at first), overpowering Parasite twice, and Brainiac and his machines with or without Supergirl's help. However, it should be noted, Superman only fights enemies by relying on his overwhelming strength and speed and when facing off against someone else with similar powers, he can be overwhelmed, but later in the end, Superman would merge to victory after the battle.
  • Stealthiness: Superman can maneuver quickly and discretely without being seen or heard by enemies.
  • Journalism: Clark has a degree in journalism as a news reporter and journalist at the Daily Planet.
  • Indomitable Will: Superman possesses an unyielding will.
  • Investigation: Clark has investigative skills.
  • Tactical Analysis: Clark can analyze tactical situations.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Power Limitation: Exposure to red sun radiation weakens Clark's abilities.
    • Vulnerability to Kryptonite: Kryptonite can harm and potentially kill him.
    • Vulnerability to Red Solar Energy: Red solar radiation replaces the higher-yield yellow solar energy in Superman's cells, robbing him of the fuel for his powers and rendering him as weak as a human.
    • X-Ray Limitation: Superman's x-ray vision cannot see through lead, for unknown reasons.

Quotes[]

I'm still piecing together who I am and what I can do. But at the end of the day, I'm here to help the people of Metropolis. That's what matters.
~ Superman
Who am I?
~ Superman
Lois: How did you know you'd be bulletproof?

Superman: I didn't. I just knew that you weren't.

~ Superman upon finding out he's bulletproof after shielding Lois from being shot.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, Kal-El was transferred to Earth by his parents who were soon to be evaporated on their dying planet Krypton, raised by the Kent family. Renamed as Clark Joseph Kent, Kal-El would soon learn he could use his alien powers for good as Superman.
  • Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman, the eponymous protagonist of My Adventures with Superman, is voiced by Jack Quaid. Producer Josie Campbell enjoyed working with Quaid for his great comedic timing and the ability to "sell the kindness, strength, and dignity of Superman."
  • Somewhat ironically, his voice actor Jack Quaid plays Hughie Campbell in The Boys, which is a show that is a ruthless and scathing parody of superheroes, with the main antagonist being a villainous parody of Superman.
