| ~ T'Lar |
T'Lar was a Vulcan priestess featured in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock and the novelizations of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. In Star Trek III she was portrayed by Dame Judith Anderson.
In 2230, T'Lar served as the midwife supervising the birth of Sarek and Amanda Grayson's child Spock. She would later be named a High Priestess of Seleya.
Later on, in 2285 she was called upon to assist with Spock's katra when the crew of the late USS Enterprise brought the regenerated body of Spock and Leonard McCoy - who held Spock's katra - back to Vulcan. When Admiral James T. Kirk's party approached with Spock and McCoy, T'Lar determined that Spock's body still lived and asked Sarek what he wanted to have done. Sarek asked for the Fal-Tor-Pan, or the refusion of Spock body and katra. T'Lar objected that it had been ages since the last Fal-Tor-Pan was done, if it had even been done, and that Sarek's request was not logical. Sarek responded his logic was "uncertain" when it came to Spock. T'Lar agreed to proceed and asked for the keeper of the katra. Dr. McCoy informed T'Lar that he held the katra. She told him that it would not only be dangerous for Spock, but for McCoy as well but McCoy wanted to proceed given it was a chance to have his friend back. In a ceremony that lasted all night long, T'Lar moved Spock's katra back in to his body. At the end of the Fal-Tor-Pan she was totally exhausted and led away on a litter by her attendants. But the Fal-Tor-Pan was successful, and Spock's mind and body were fused together again.
Over the next few months, T'Lar engaged in a series of mind melds with both Spock and McCoy to ensure that any lingering traces of Spock were transferred back to Spock. Before Kirk and his party left Earth, T'Lar declared that Spock had been completely transferred, though McCoy was at first doubtful. Spock was able to reassure him that while the two men would always have traces of each other in their minds, the separation was completed.
In 2287, Spock allowed Sybok to explore Spock's deepest pain with Spock's friends Kirk and McCoy, where he witnessed T'Lar helping his mother give birth to him. Spock found it strangely fitting that the person who attended his first entrance into life also attended his second entrance into life.
Trivia[]
- Celia Lovsky's performance heavily influenced Leonard Nimoy's decision to cast Anderson as T'Lar as she had the same bearing as Lovsky did. Lovsky was unavailable for Star Trek III as she had died a few years prior to the production of the film. It was at first rumored that Anderson was going to be cast as T'Pau in the film, which later proved untrue.
