Tael is a minor supporting character who first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. He is a good friend to the Skull Kid and the twin brother of Tatl. Unlike the previous fairies, Tael is the only fairy to not accompany Link, but instead stays with the Skull Kid the whole game.
Biography[]
Before the events of Majora's Mask takes place, Tael and Tatl were wandering around in Termina Field where they meet with the lonesome Skull Kid, who recently had a fallout with the four Giants, and they befriend him and begin to enjoy their time together, but things go terribly wrong when the Skull Kid decides to ambush the Happy Mask Salesman and steal a cursed mask from him. He quickly fell under the entity's influence and his typical harmless pranks turned into evil intent.
They later find Link wandering in the forest with Epona when he and Tatl startle Epona and knock off her rider. Tatl and Tael argue a bit as Skull Kid inspects the Ocarina of Time. When Link comes to, they flee while also taking Epona which prompts the Hero of Time to chase them up until he tumbles into a hole in a tree hollow, where the Skull Kid curses him to take on the form of a Deku Scrub to amuse them. As Tatl taunts Link, Tael realizes that she is far behind and tries to tell her only for his warning to come too late as the door slams shut, separating them from each other.
Tael spends the entire game with Skull Kid at the top of the Clock Town Tower, when Link confronts them there on the Night of the Final Day, Tael quickly names the regions where the Giants originate, hinting at the summoning and their mission being to save the four regions that are all each suffering from Majora's curse, only for Skull Kid to swat him, which greatly angers Tatl. Link hits him with a bubble, making him drop the Ocarina of Time and uses it to travel back to the First Day.
Once Link clears all of the regions, he returns to the top of the tower on the Final Day, where the scenario plays again. Link plays the Oath to Order to summon the four freed Giants to stop the Moon from colliding with the earth. Tael and Tatl reunite briefly where Tatl starts to accuse the passed-out Skull Kid, which Tael then reveals that the Skull Kid was never the problem to begin with as all of the actions were only done against his will. Majora reveals his true nature as he leaves Skull Kid behind to take control of the demonic Moon and threatens to consume everything in its wake. With the Giants struggling to keep it from hitting the tower, Tael and Tatl have a moment as they wish the Hero of Time luck.
After Link defeats Majora, the Moon is destroyed and replaced with a harmless rainbow, and the fairy siblings find Link on the ground just as he wakes up. The newly freed Skull Kid reconciles with the Giants before they leave, realizing that while they were gone, they never actually abandoned him. He befriends Link and notes that his scent reminds him of a certain kid who taught him a song in the forest. The Happy Mask Salesman has Majora's Mask back, only this time, there is no evil power within it and states that good-byes don't need to last forever. Tael, Tatl, and the Skull Kid bid Link farewell as he and Epona depart from Termina and returned to the Lost Woods to continue his search for Navi while they enjoy the Carnival of Time.
