Taja is one of the two deuteragonists (the other being Siro) from the 1998-99 TV Series Mortal Kombat: Conquest. She is one of the Great Kung Lao's most loyal friends.
She is portrayed by Kristanna Loken.
Biography[]
Taja was originally a thief. She was once caught stealing and imprisoned by Baron Reyland's men. She was able to escape and through Raiden, she was convinced to help Kung Lao escape as well. After fighting some of the Baron's guards she and Kung Lao escaped joined by exiled bodyguard Siro. The three of them ended up owning the Baron's trading post following his and his daughter's Jen deaths at the hands of Scorpion.
Taja quickly started to let go of her stealing habit and assisted Kung Lao with running the trading post while at the same time recruiting new fighters and preparing for the next Mortal Kombat tournament. Taja would be in danger many times while facing deadly opponents such as Kung Lao's arch-nemesis Shang Tsung, the Lin Kuei, the Edenian Qali, Quan Chi and others. At one point Taja fell in love with a highly skilled fighter named Tomas who came to join Kung Lao. However, through Shao Kahn's plot, Tomas was falsely framed for the deaths of two women and would end up fighting Kung Lao and ultimately dying at the hands of the real murderer Reptile, who would thus become her most hated enemy.
Taja would meet her end after she got betrayed by her old friend and fellow thief Dion who sold her along with Kung Lao and Siro to the Outworld warriors. Even though they managed to escape through Raiden's help they would end up dying at the hands of Shao Kahn's loyal Shadow Priests. However, due to the cancellation of the show, it is unknown if any of them are really dead. Although plans from the second season revealed that they would have been resurrected by the Elder Gods. But given this entire series itself was just a nightmare Raiden had in his sleep, this is extremely unlikely.

Some fans speculate that Taja is somehow an ancestor of Sonya Blade, mostly because of her affair with Tomas, who seemed like a reincarnation of Johnny Cage.
