Hero Overview

What's yours is mine and what's mine is also mine!
~ Takeshi Goda

Takeshi Goda, more commonly known as Gian or Big G, is one of the main protagonists of the Doraemon franchise. He is the big, strong, and quick-tempered local bully who was born on June 15. He is often paired with Suneo to bully others, especially Nobita.

Portrayals

  • In the 1973 anime, he was voiced by Kaneta Kimotsuki, who would go on to voice Suneo in the 1979 anime.
  • In the 1979 anime, he was voiced by Kazuya Tatekabe in the Japanese version and Gerald Chew in the English dubbed version.
  • In the 2005 anime, he was voiced by Subaru Kimura in the Japanese version and Kaiji Tang in the English dubbed version.

Appearance

Gian is a fat boy with black hair and tan skin. He wears a shirt and trousers whose colors vary between versions: The shirt is red in the 1973 anime, orange with a yellow stripe in the 1979 anime, and the stripe is changed into light red in the 2005 anime. The trousers are navy blue in the 1973 anime, gray in the 1979 anime, brown in the 2005 anime. He also wears blue shoes.

Personality

Gian is known for his confidence in his terrible singing voice, to the point that he considers himself a great singer and even hates whenever his friends talk about the idol singers, seeing them as his rivals. He often forces his friends to go to his concert and hear the songs he wrote himself. His cooking is also atrocious, but no one dares to criticize him for they fear him too much to. Gian is very proud of his strength, often showing them off by forcing others, especially Nobita, to play wrestling with him in which he invariably wins.

Gian likes to bully others and often steals theirs toys and books under the pretext of "borrowing" them, threatening them if they refuse. As such, he is feared by others in his class, making him very arrogant and thinking that no one can go against him. At times, he can also be cruel to animals, as he and Suneo often try to capture them, forcing Nobita and Doraemon to rescue them. However, Gian is terrified of his mother, a fact Nobita and Doraemon sometimes use in their favor. He also likes to blame Nobita for his baseball team's losses, only keeping the latter around due to the lack of players.

Despite his antagonistic role, Gian does not hesitate to help his friends when they are in real trouble, which often occurs in long stories. Gian also has a younger sister named Jaiko, who he loves dearly that he would do anything to help her. Additionally, he also tries to be a person many times, although they often end in failure due to either his temper or others taking advantage of his newfound kindness to bully him back. Gian is also nice to Shizuka, never once directly bullying her, likely because she is a girl.

Ultimately, Gian overcomes his flaws and becomes a good father in the future.

Trivia

  • His favorite food is Stuffed Capsicum.
  • Gian's name is an obvious pun on "giant", referencing the fact that he is the biggest and strongest one of the main group.
