~ Tala Durith to Obi-Wan Kenobi. |
Tala Durith is the tritagonist of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
She was portrayed by Indira Varma, who played Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones.
Biography[]
Soon after the formation of the Galactic Empire, Tala joined the Imperial military in order to make a difference. Becoming an officer she soon saw the Empire as it truly was. Following orders she rounded up Force sensitive families - including children - and was horrified when these families were all killed. In order to make up for helping the Empire hunt down and kill Force sensitives Tala joined an anti-Imperial network called The Path - which was a precursor to the Rebellion. Stationed on the planet Mapuzo she helped smuggle Jedi and other force sensitives to safety on Jabiim, and worked with former Jedi such as Quinlan Vos.
Nine years after the formation of the Empire working with others in the underground movement she worked with Obi-Wan Kenobi to get Princess Leia home to Alderaan. When an Imperial force led by Darth Vader and Imperial Inquisitors began sweeping the town they were in, Obi-Wan left to draw Vader away, asking Tala to promise him that she'd remain with Leia. Leaving through some tunnels that would lead to the spaceport, Leia talked Tala in to leaving to find Obi-Wan and bring him to safety.
She found Obi-Wan, who was losing a battle with Vader. After dragging Kenobi through some flames Vader ordered his stormtroopers to bring Kenobi to him. Tala fired a shot at a pile of flammable stones, cutting Vader and his people off from Kenobi, who was retrieved by a loader droid working for Tala. After getting some distance from Vader, Tala had the loader set Kenobi down and told the badly burned Kenobi he would be ok.
With Leia being captured by the Third Sister, Tala helped Obi-Wan infiltrate the Fortress Inquistorious where Leia was being held and helped him rescue the young princess.
When Darth Vader and the Inquisitors attacked Jabiim, Tala sacrificed herself to buy others in the underground time to escape.
Having held on to Tala's blaster holster, Obi-Wan gave it to Leia when they left Jabiim. When she asked why the holster didn't come with a blaster, Obi-Wan said that he wasn't going to give a 10 year old child a blaster. Leia kept Tala's holster with her after returning to Alderaan and used it as a place to keep her droid Lola.
Trivia[]
- The showrunners initially intended Tala Durith to be a love interest for Obi-Wan. However during the delay in filming caused by COVID-19 the part about her being Obi-Wan's love interest was removed as writers felt having them as a couple was "a bit clichéd."
