Tallinn was a female Romulan featured in the second season of Star Trek: Picard. She was a possible ancestor of the 24th century Romulan Laris.
Like Laris, she was portrayed by the Irish actress Orla Brady, who also played Lydia in Into the Badlands and Countess Vera Rosakoff in Agatha Christie's Poirot.
Overview[]
Tallinn was not a northerner and had a smooth forehead, making her largely indistinguishable from Vulcans. Like Gary Seven before her, she was a Supervisor for the Aegis stationed on Earth.
Biography[]
In 2024, her job was to protect Jean-Luc Picard's distant relative Reneé Picard, who had been instrumental in exploring several Jovian moons, and who turned out to be critical to the peaceful development of United Earth and the United Federation of Planets. Like Seven, Tallinn had access to advanced Aegis technology, including a servo, a scanner, a transporter, and a neuro-optic interceptor. Her Aegis provided equipment also helped her disguise herself as a human during her work.
Traveling back in time to prevent Q from interfering with human history, Picard met Tallinn and learned about her mission. He realized that she was working for the same aliens that Gary Seven had worked for about half a century earlier. Tallinn joined with Picard in helping to ensure that human history unfolded the way it should.
Learning that Adam Soong planned to kill Picard's distant ancestor Reneé Picard to prevent her from flying on the Europa mission and making a discovery critical to humanity's survival, Tallinn disguised herself as Reneé. Fooling Soong into thinking that she was Reneé, she sacrificed herself by allowing Soong to poison her with a neurotoxin. Tallin died in Jean-Luc Picard's arms, Soong believed he was successful in killing Reneé, but quickly learned that the real Reneé had boarded the Europa mission spacecraft and was on her way to Europa. Her sacrifice meant that the timeline developed the way it was supposed to, and humanity evolved into the peaceful United Federation of Planets.
